In this episode, we install the exterior front door, get the house fully dried in, test paint colors for faux cedar siding, foam around the door frame, install drywall nailers around HVAC, plumbing, and gas lines, and turn leftover sheathing into attic flooring for storage. The house still isn’t finished — but with the roof, windows, and door finally in, it’s protected from the weather. It’s not a home yet, but it’s finally starting to feel like a shelter. We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Présentation officielle des skippers de l'édition 2026 !
Having a Starlink mini on your boat transforms your life, well it has ours! Starlink means we can work on our YT channel, be constantly connected if we want to, even in the middle of an ocean ( which is a bit freaky!) Have facetime calls with the family whenever we want, always have comprehensive animated weather models not sketchy GRIB files, watch Netflix etc etc The mini goes a step further than that because it is portable, so we can simply unclip it from the boat and take it with us if we go on a road trip, we simply use one of the many great battery power banks available for the mini now ( links to the ones we showed at the bottom of the page) We didn't go into specifics of the cost in the video because it actually depends on where you register the Starlink, this determines the cost they decide to charge. Our monthly charge is 4,867.64 Columbian pesos ( thats £108.35 or $145.80us ) Thats for Roam Unlimited. We choose roam unlimited because with that contract we can flick the switch to 'Ocean' mode when we are more than 12nm offshore and still have connection. While on ocean mode we pay $2 (us) per GB but that's just for the period we are offshore, as soon as we are 12nm from land again we switch it back to our unlimited plan. checkout Peakdo who make that very neat clip on power bank here; https://www.peakdo.com/peakdo-linkpower-2-power-bank-for-starlink-mini-p6885437.html and the XTAR 158 is the biggest capacity you are allowed to carry on a plane so useful for maximum power. Also as I said in the video if the XTAR had been available when we fitted the mini I would have used it to power the Starlink full time instead of buying the Victron Pheonix inverter. It would have been easier to fit as I could have it closer, it would just need to be close to a usb socket to keep it charged up. This would be a vert effiecient way of setting it up and if the XTAR was just in a cupboard or something then you could still take it with you for road trips. Have a look at it here: https://xtar-link.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopuFD2CrXZ_47IoGhCpL4nPAvfbX955tNxy8eqw3znOZIAJohfh

We left one of my favourite anchorages (with the bluest water) as storm on the way & into the safe holding of Preveza to enjoy the lightning show. The following evening we go to a local sardine festival, only to find our dinghy fuel has been pinched while we were away. Shane has an accident in the stinky waters here, while Amy & Oliver have a good belly laugh at his expense. We head more inland to a little town called Vonitsa with our friends Melusina where we go for a wander amongst the gum trees and have a few quiet days. Back to Preveza, water pump work and one more storm, ready to move on to enjoy our final month of Season One. Want early access to our videos?

Wrapping up bigger canvas projects means a lot of leftover material, so Steve takes a couple of hours to knock out a quick, practical upgrade for Arabella’s 100-foot nylon anchor rode. Replacing an old, non-draining nylon stuff sack that was a hassle to flake rope into, Steve builds a custom "bucket-style" rope bag from scrap sailcloth, a breathable mesh bottom, and spare webbing. Armed with the Sailrite machine, he adds heavy-duty carry handles and a top clip system to ensure the line's eye-splice never gets lost at the bottom of the bag. Day 11. Today was kind of lucky and kind of unlucky at the same time. We were quite slow overnight, which normally would’ve been frustrating… but it actually turned into a blessing in disguise. Because it meant I reached the Bay of Biscay traffic zone later than expected and could go through it during daylight instead of at night. And honestly, that made a huge difference mentally. I got decent sleep, could actually see what was around me, and didn’t have to spend the entire night stressed about traffic. What’s funny though is how massive the ocean still feels. On the AIS there are boats everywhere, but in reality, I barely actually see anyone. Most of the boats never came close enough to matter. We all just kind of slipped perfectly around each other without anyone needing to change course. Which honestly felt pretty cool. I did run into the charging issue again though, the same one I’ve had before. Luckily I now know how to work around it, so it wasn’t a huge problem today. But it is still a bit concerning long term, because if this keeps happening during the GGR, I’ll probably need to make some changes to the system. But honestly, one of the funniest parts of this whole journey is waking up every morning and realizing the community has created something new while I was asleep. Today I woke up and realized… apparently I now have a cat named Windy. Somehow my tiller got a name. There’s lore. There are ongoing jokes. There’s apparently a whole parade happening onboard half the time. I’m always the last one to know what’s going on in my own community. But it honestly makes me so happy. People are so invested in this journey and they keep adding their own little stories and characters into it, and somehow it’s become this giant shared adventure instead of just me alone on a boat. And I feel really lucky to be the vessel for all of it. 🌊🐦 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology.
After weeks of preparation, stress, and problem-solving, our new Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42 finally goes back in the water for the very first time. In this episode, James prepares the boat for launch day, checks the systems once she splashes, and attempts the first proper move to a new marina… even after one of the engines immediately starts causing problems. Despite the setbacks, the first shakedown of the boat ends up being a huge milestone for us after everything it took just to get to this point. Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! fill in Survey.yachtara.com Finally, real progress at the new factory. ⛵🔥 In this episode of Sailing into Freedom, I’m back from the yard with a proper update: the new builder and new project manager are on the case, the attention to detail is next level, and the boat is finally moving forward again — even if that means endless spreadsheets, measurements, plans and sweaty days in the brutal Vietnam heat and humidity. There’s also a look at the Elcano app Bart is building to support the project and, of course, more tropical sailing chaos with Catalina as we island-hop, learn the ropes, and squeeze in a bit of spearfishing along the way. If you’re into catamaran builds, sailing project updates, life in Vietnam, offshore cruising prep, and the real behind-the-scenes grind of getting a dream boat finished, this one’s for you. #sailing #sailingintofreedom #catamaran #boatbuilding #vietnamlife #sailingvlog #cruisinglife #liveaboard #spearfishing #elcanochallenge Get your Sailing Into Freedom Crew T-shirt: https://teespring.com/stores/sailing-into-freedom Want more? Instagram https://www.instagram.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Thanks so much for your support, Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main ‘action’ cameras are an Insta Ace pro 2 and a DJI Action 4 while the ‘big camera is a Canon R50. All use Dji mini wireless mics or a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea:I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have limited communications with the outside World. All sailors need to know how to use a hank-on jib or staysail. If you get caught out in high winds with too much sail up, how can you make the task of lowering a hank-on headsail safer and easier for your sailing crew? Here’s one technique I learned while sailing in the gusty breezes and choppy waters of San Francisco Bay. (Also, see my video on furling a headsail in high winds: https://youtu.be/SEtJIYLCY3g) Captain John is a 20+ year Coast Guard veteran, author, sailor, and professional boating instructor who shows you the simple, cut-to-the-chase sailing skills for safer sailing. We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. We make these videos mostly for family and friends and to create a record of our adventures for ourselves so that we can look back at them later in life, were not in it to make money (way to hard). The solar busy doing the work. The batteries full, with the anchorage all to yourself and the a/c on at night with no help from the generator.. ▫️ Max Cruise Marine performance catamarans come with a hybrid drive option: no generator noise, no marina dependency, and with no compromise on speed when the wind fills in. ▫️ With twin diesels running alongside an electric drive, up to 5kW of solar, and lots of lithium battery power. One owner logged 10,000 nautical miles on 656 litres of diesel. ▫️ We reckon this might just be the most capable sailing catamaran at this price point anywhere on the market right now. What do you think? ▫️ #catamaran #sailing #liveaboard #multihull #bluewater
