What does it take to sail where almost no one else will? In this episode of Three Sheets Podcast, Erik and David sit down with legendary sailor Matt Rutherford, just one week into his attempt to become the first person to complete a solo, nonstop, unassisted circumnavigation of the Arctic. Matt shares what it takes to prepare for one of the most demanding sailing expeditions on the planet, from sleep deprivation and ice navigation to weather routing, risk management, and the mental resilience required to spend months completely alone at sea. He also reflects on the experiences that led him to take on one of the most ambitious sailing challenges ever attempted. Whether you're a bluewater cruiser, an armchair adventurer, or simply fascinated by people who push the limits of what's possible, this is a conversation you won't want to miss. This interview was recorded on July 1, 2026, approximately one week after Matt began his Arctic circumnavigation attempt. In This Episode • Why Matt is attempting a solo, nonstop, unassisted circumnavigation of the Arctic • Lessons learned from previous record-setting expeditions • Preparing for extreme cold, ice, and isolation • The realities of solo offshore sailing • Ocean Research Project and Arctic research • Matt's remarkable journey to becoming one of the world's most accomplished sailors Featured Guest Matt Rutherford Founder, Ocean Research Project 🌐 Ocean Research Project https://www.oceanresearchproject.org/ 🌐 Support the Mission https://www.oceanresearchproject.org/support-ocean-research Chapters 00:00 Intro & Welcome 02:58 The Impossible Arctic Voyage Begins 08:32 One Week Alone in the Arctic 15:06 Preparing for the Ultimate Sailing Challenge 24:18 Navigating Ice, Fog & Isolation 33:52 Why the Arctic Matters 47:41 Matt's Journey to the Sea 58:11 Ocean Research Project 1:05:32 Following the Expedition 1:08:00 Final Thoughts Enjoyed the conversation? After two years without a boat, we finally found what we hoped would be our next floating home… a Nautitech 40 Open. But did we make the right decision? In this full walkthrough, we take you aboard our new-to-us Nautitech 40 Open and show you every part of the boat—from the spacious aft cockpit and saloon to the cabins, galley, helm stations, engines and storage. We also share the features we absolutely love, along with the compromises every sailor has to make when choosing a cruising catamaran. One of our biggest concerns before buying this boat was the dual outside helm stations, which leave the skipper exposed to the sun, wind and rain. Was that a deal-breaker? Or do the incredible sailing performance, open living space and social cockpit more than make up for it? Whether you’re dreaming of buying a catamaran, planning to sail around the world, or simply love boat tours, this episode gives you an honest first look at what it’s really like to own a Nautitech 40 Open. Along the way, we also share practical cruising tips and simple life lessons we’ve learned from decades of sailing—small changes that can make life onboard safer, easier and far more enjoyable. If you’ve ever considered a Nautitech 40 Open, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Would you choose outside helm stations for the sailing performance, or would you rather have an inside helm? Let us know in the comments! ⛵ Subscribe for weekly sailing adventures, honest boat reviews, practical cruising advice and life lessons from around the world. *Learn more about our Orca Chart Plotter: https://getorca.com/?via=therunalife* If you've ever wondered what the everyday looks like when you quit your job and live on a sailboat, this is it 😀 We quit our office jobs in 2025 to chase a dream of sailing the world. Now we live, work remotely, and adventure full-time aboard Rúna, our 38ft catamaran, documenting the highs, lows, and everything in between. Since we moved aboard, we've sailed more than 4,000 nautical miles across the Mediterranean, discovering incredible anchorages, hidden coastal towns, and some of Europe's most spectacular scenery. In this episode, we begin our journey down the breathtaking northwest coast of Sardinia, carefully navigating a narrow, shallow channel before hoisting the sails for a beautiful light-wind passage towards Bosa. Along the way, we wander the historic streets of Alghero, hike beneath the towering limestone cliffs of Capo Caccia, and visit the spectacular Neptune's Grotto (Grotta di Nettuno), one of Sardinia's most famous natural wonders. If you enjoy the video, we'd love it if you subscribed and joined us for Part 2, where we continue sailing south along Sardinia's spectacular coastline before embarking on a 25 hour passage to Tunisia ⛵ ____________________________________________________________ Hey! Part two of the voyage into the coast's longest fjord - Sailing deeper into the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, we explore one of the most remote and spectacular cruising destinations on Canada's west coast. Surrounded by towering mountains, glacier-fed rivers, and impossibly deep water, we quickly discover why so few sailboats venture this far inland. With powerful mountain winds, scarce anchorages, and rapidly changing conditions, every mile farther into Knight Inlet demands careful decision-making. This is one of the most awe-inspiring—and humbling—places we've ever sailed. ⛵ Subscribe for a new sailing adventure every second Friday! ⚓️ Add your Name to the Crew Credit List! 🍲⛵

After one month in Cartagena, we sailed continue our eastbound passage. Cartagena is a beautiful town, but the water is perfect for barnacles to grow on boat. We usually sail a lots and grown has never been an issue, but one month sitting in the marina, we had 1 cm of growth . We “forgot” to clean it before settling off from Cartagena and that was a big rookie mistake. Our boat speed was 1-1.5 kt less that usual, so that makes day run 25-35 shorter! Luckily, we have Silic One anti foul paint , and cleaning the bottom was easy, but took time as I had to skindive / snorkel. Took about 6 hours, didn’t complete the whole keel . #sailing #caribbean #silicone #rookiemistakes

Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 348 Two weeks in Fulaga. And somehow it still doesn't feel like enough. This episode is a little different. Less about what we did and more about how this place made us feel. Because Fulaga has a way of doing something to you that very few places can. It strips everything back. No schedule, no agenda, no rush. Just the lagoon, the tide and wherever curiosity takes you next. Somewhere along the way this lifestyle gave us something back that most people lose without even noticing. The ability to just play. To be genuinely curious about the world around you. To feel like a kid again in the best possible way. This is that episode. Cinematic, unhurried and very much Fulaga. We are seven years into what is supposed to be a circumnavigation. The fact that it's taken this long probably tells you everything you need to know about us. We linger. We stay just a little longer than planned. We let places surprise us. ► After an already eventful 2025 with the launch of the FP41, FP44 and Power 80, Fountaine Pajot is maintaining the pace in 2026 with no fewer than three new sailing catamarans set to debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival: the FP48, FP55 and FPY 70. We had the opportunity to sail hull #1 of the FP48 off La Rochelle, a model that has already secured 60 orders. ► Replacing the Tanna 47, the newcomer is designed to be more refined and comfortable. It gains 19" (49 cm) in length and 8" (20 cm) in beam, while light displacement increases by 3.68 t, only partially offset by an increase in upwind sail area from 1,389 sq ft (129 m²) to 1,442 sq ft (134 m²). ► The real design achievement? This significant move toward greater comfort is almost invisible. While the increased freeboard has been integrated very discreetly, the underwater profile has received just as much attention. The hull lines have been thoroughly reworked, and the mini-keels now extend to 5'5" (1.64 m) below the surface, compared with 3'11" (1.20 m) on the Tanna. ► On board, the builder’s signature features remain: a hydraulic platform, twin helm stations with duplicated controls, a central galley island, and a large forward opening between the saloon and cockpit. ► Our test boat was equipped with the ODSea+ hybrid electric propulsion system, illustrating Fountaine Pajot’s commitment to accelerating its energy transition. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Fountaine Pajot Architects: Berret/Racoupeau Yacht Design Length Overall: 47'4" (14.43 m) Beam: 25'11" (7.90 m) Draft: 5'5" (1.64 m) Light Displacement: 18.4 t Mainsail: 915 sq ft (85 m²) Genoa: 527 sq ft (49 m²) Powertrain: 2 × 45 hp or 25 kW electric motors Fuel: 2 × 92 US gal (2 × 350 l) Water: 185 US gal (700 l) CE Category: A12/B14/C18/D22 Price: € 671,968 ex-tax ► www.fountaine-pajot.com ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! A few weeks ago I shared an idea that I thought could completely change the way people experience luxury sailing. Then I asked for your feedback. Hundreds of comments later—and one incredibly detailed blog from a viewer—I realized I had made some major mistakes. In this episode I explain what I got wrong, why the original model probably wouldn't work, and the new direction I'm considering. We dive into whole-boat memberships vs. cabin memberships, pricing, charter economics, premium weeks, refundable deposits, and how this idea might actually become a real business. I still don't know if this will ever happen, but it's already a much better idea because of your feedback. As always, I'd love to hear what you think. Would you join something like this? But when things go wrong....boyyyy do they go wrong 😂 The number of toilet disasters we've had over the years on Delos 1 is obscene, and for that reason we have put a LOT of time and planning into designing a system that will minimize that...And in this week's episode, it's finally all coming together. We get water running through the lines for the first time, and we also make some amazing progress with the finishings, the shower, and so much more! For the first time in a long time, I’m sailing toward a destination I’ve never visited before. We finally leave Pattaya behind and point the new yacht across the Gulf of Thailand for a 50-mile passage to Hua Hin. The forecast looked manageable, but the wind was stronger than expected, leaving us beating into the wind and waves for much of the journey. It was a rough ride, but nobody got seasick—and new crew member Nika handled her first real passage incredibly well. Then, about an hour before reaching Hua Hin, the generator unexpectedly shut down. We still had battery power, so we continued safely to the anchorage, but without the generator, we had no way to recharge the yacht’s electrical system. Once anchored, I start working through the problem to find out what happened, why it happened, and whether I can get it running again. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride!
The stations are piling up! In this episode, we mount FIVE stations onto the build ladder at once — and for the first time, the Wooden Shoe actually looks like a boat. From the transom forward, every frame locks into place and the hull's backbone finally reveals itself. Building a wooden boat from scratch in the Mexican jungle means every station is a battle — Chechen hardwood doesn't give easy wins. But seeing five of them standing together? That's a milestone worth celebrating. 🔨 In this video: • Making the ladder • Mounting Stations 1 through 5 onto the ladder This is what wooden boat building looks like when the plans meet reality. This is what Angie a consultant from Ukraine had to say about her trip on the Sicily Flotilla. We have last 4 spots left for our Sail the Volcanic Islands of Sicily on a Yacht 27 June - 4 July, 2026 DM for details :)
The Escape is the new name of the Skyscape — a sail designed for freefoil sailing, and a personal choice of Loftsails chief sail designer Monty Spindler. Light, balanced, and built around pure enjoyment on the foil. The new name reflects what the sail has proven on the water: it's not just a foil sail. Trimmed right, the Escape is a capable freeride engine that delivers a surprising amount of speed on a fin when conditions allow. Finished in Loftsails' 2026 functional minimalism graphic, the Escape is one sail to fly on foil, blast on a fin, and stay light and predictable as conditions change. ⮞ Check full details: https://shorturl.at/P8nqu Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Loftsails Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/loftsails/ Web: https://www.loftsails.com/ Cinematography: https://www.instagram.com/timmfl/
