BARCOLANA 2026 – wir sind dabei! ⛵🇮🇹 Am 11. Oktober 2026 wollen wir mit der Scirocco bei der Barcolana in Triest an den Start gehen. Tausende Segelboote, ein riesiges Starterfeld und mittendrin unsere Crew. Bevor es so weit ist, müssen wir aber trainieren. In diesem Video kommt ein Teil unserer Barcolana-Crew zum ersten gemeinsamen Training an Bord. Wir besprechen die Aufgaben, testen die Abläufe und trainieren die Manöver, die beim Rennen funktionieren müssen. Außerdem hat die Crew gleich etwas für die Scirocco mitgebracht: Zwei neue Dyneema-Schoten mit jeweils 28 Metern Länge. Damit wollen wir unser Leichtwindsegel besser kontrollieren und für die Barcolana weiter optimieren. Wie gut funktioniert unsere Mannschaft bereits zusammen? Wer übernimmt welche Position? Und was müssen wir bis zur Barcolana noch verbessern? Bis Oktober wartet jedenfalls noch einiges an Arbeit auf uns. 😅 Eine weitere Verstärkung für die Crew gibt es ebenfalls. Ein zweiter Christoph wird uns unterstützen. Er ist erst vor Kurzem von seiner 35-monatigen Weltumsegelung zurückgekehrt, kennt die Scirocco bereits und hat mir auch beim richtigen Trimm des Gennakers geholfen. Am Freitag, den 9. Sailing French Polynesia 2026 ⛵️ There’s something slightly ridiculous about sailing… You can travel thousands of miles to French Polynesia, drop your anchor in some of the most beautiful water on earth — and then spend the afternoon wondering whether the bloody thing is still holding! In this episode of Barefoot Doctors Sailing, our good friends Scott and Vanessa join us from Australia for a couple of weeks of sailing through paradise. But when the wind picks up and we leave our Nautitech 40 catamaran at anchor while exploring ashore, that familiar sailor’s question starts playing in the back of our minds: Is the boat still there? ⚓ ANCHOR WATCH & BOAT SAFETY We take a closer look at how modern GPS anchor alarm systems work — creating a safe zone around your anchored boat and alerting you if the boat moves outside that zone. Even more importantly, we show how technology can allow you to monitor your boat from shore on your mobile phone, using onboard connectivity such as Starlink. For cruisers, this can be a huge reassurance — especially when you’re anchored in an unfamiliar location and have gone ashore. And then there’s the ultimate test… We retrieve the anchor. We’re finally setting sail on our new floating home—and our very first fish aboard is a beautiful mahi-mahi! 🎣⛵️ After six exhausting days of moving aboard, organizing, provisioning, and preparing our Leopard 50 catamaran, it’s finally time to leave the dock and begin our next chapter as a full-time sailing family. But before we can head out to sea, we still have a few last-minute boat projects to tackle. We rescue our Starlink from a pile of trash, shop for fishing gear, discover our water pump isn’t working, send Kamden to the top of the mast to retrieve a stuck halyard, practice tying lines, and spend an eye-watering $1,255 on our first fuel-up. Boat life is officially back! We take our new sailboat through the incredible canals of Fort Lauderdale, cruise past some of the most beautiful waterfront homes in Florida, and return to Lake Sylvia—the anchorage where so many things went wrong during our first sailing adventure four years ago. This time, we’re determined to replace those memories with better ones. After swimming, exploring the boardwalk, enjoying live music, and completing our signature Satterlee family pull-up challenge, we wake up for the moment we’ve been waiting for: our first real sail aboard our new catamaran. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true shakedown sail without a few problems. The autopilot stops working, the wind builds to 22 knots, and our trip from Fort Lauderdale to Key Biscayne becomes a long beat directly into the wind. But then the fishing line starts screaming—and Easton reels in the first fish ever caught aboard our new boat: a mahi-mahi! After years of catching barracuda, landing a mahi on our very first sail feels like the perfect way to begin this new adventure. While sailing to Indonesia we hit a log at 8kts that damages our dagger board then get entangled in a fishing net. We encounter strange wooden towers in the middle of the sea. Sailing and snorkeling the marine parks of Semporna. We drift dive with turtles and a sea snake in strong currents. Then I climb the mast to fix a damaged line and 3d print some stuff to fix the boat. We’re boarded by the Indonesian navy and spend an exorbitant amount of time checking in to the country. What a disaster...I wanted too much. Instead of concentrating on one stringer at a time I wanted to tab the entire forward area underneath the galley to glass to the hull at the same time. The temperature was way too high in order to be quick enough to do so. Solution: sanding. What joy. A few days later when the temperature was in limits I did as I should from the beginning: one stringer at a time. The result: perfect. Première étape : Agios Nikolaos, où nous découvrons un mouillage sur bouée gratuit et profitons d’un avitaillement en eau, également gratuit. Ici, les tavernes locales prennent même en charge les navettes entre le bateau et la terre, quelle que soit l’heure. Une belle surprise pour le navigateur ! Nous mettons ensuite le cap sur Xigia Cove, célèbre pour ses sources naturelles qui jaillissent dans la mer, avant de rejoindre Zante, la capitale de l’île, pour refaire les derniers niveaux du frigo et nous ravitailler avant d’attaquer la côte est, beaucoup plus isolée. Escale à Porto Nova, découverte d’une taverne réputée, puis la météo nous offre enfin les bonnes conditions pour poursuivre notre route le long des falaises. Et là, le spectacle commence : falaises impressionnantes, grottes, eaux cristallines et paysages sauvages… La côte de Zakynthos se dévoile depuis la mer sous son plus beau visage. ⛵ Une nouvelle étape à bord d’Antécume, entre navigation, rencontres, mouillages et découverte des trésors cachés de la Grèce. Join us aboard *Mirage* for an unforgettable 200-nautical-mile passage from New York City to Cape Cod, Massachusetts! We departed New York around 5:00 PM after waiting for a powerful—and completely unforecasted—squall to pass. From there, we sailed overnight through Long Island Sound toward the eastern end of Long Island. As the wind picked up, *Mirage* came alive! We enjoyed a fast and exhilarating run toward the Cape Cod Canal, consistently reaching boat speeds of 9–10 knots. What a sail! 9 days. And today Showgirl had her exam. I’ve spent months thinking about this inspection. Every modification, every piece of safety equipment, every stupid little detail that had me wondering, “Is this actually according to the rules?” Today there was nowhere left to hide. 😂 They came onboard, went through the list, checked the boat, checked the equipment, checked things I’ve probably checked myself 700 times by now... And long story short: WE PASSED. ✅ I don't think I realised how much space this inspection was taking up in my head until it was over. There are still things to finish, because apparently my to-do list intends to follow me right up until September 6. But this was a big one. Showgirl has officially been given the thumbs up. Now I can go back to worrying about the other 946 things I need to do before sailing solo around the world. 😂 9 days. Single digits. Com a costa do Chile desaparecendo no horizonte, a nova rotina se impõe.
