We experienced one of our most terrifying sails, the night our engine failed and left us powerless in strong currents and bad weather while sailing past the Channel Islands, heading for Lézardrieux. Far from land and in the dark, we made a PAN-PAN call on the VHF to the French sea rescue. With six knots of current against us and no engine, we couldn’t make it on our own and had to be towed into the marina. In this video, we sit down and share what happened that night and why our engine overheated so we couldn’t use it. We had just had the heat exchanger serviced and replaced when we bought the boat in Flensburg, Germany, only a month earlier. But somehow, they put back a damaged one with a hole in it, which caused all our cooling water to leak out... We also learned a lot from this experience, especially not to head out with such a small margin like we did that day. Hopefully, someone else can learn something from it too.💙 📍 Route: Barneville-De-Carteret (France) to Lézardrieux (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1556 Nautical Miles 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you’re new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. Join us on our first night sail as we navigate the historic coast of Normandie, passing the D-Day beaches and battling some of the craziest tidal currents in Europe ⛵️🌊. After being stuck in Boulogne-sur-Mer due to strong headwinds, we finally get a 48-hour window with perfect winds. We set off on an unforgettable journey, sailing 110 nautical miles south, experiencing our first night at sea, and witnessing the sunrise over the ocean horizon, a truly magical moment 🌞. During one of our sails, we encounter a close flyby from a French coastguard helicopter, and have no idea why! 🚁 We make stops in Dieppe and Cherbourg, and stumble into a classic French bicycle race. We also take on the powerful currents around Cap de la Hague, where timing the wind, waves, and tides is key to a smooth sail. 📍 Route: Boulogne-sur-Mer (France) to Barneville-De-Carteret (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1479 Nautical Miles 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you’re new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. Our sailing journey to the Mediterranean takes a turn and slows down as autumn weather catches up with us in northern France. After sailing 1276 nautical miles from Stockholm, we find ourselves stuck in Bologne-sur-Mer for an entire week due to bad weather and limited sailing windows💨 But being delayed doesn’t stop the adventure! While waiting for better conditions, we explore the historic port city of Dunkirk and take a 24-hour trip to beautiful Paris with our friends. 🫶 We have to remind ourselves that this is what it’s all about - not just reaching the destination, but gathering experiences and enjoying the journey along the way. ⚓️ This video is made in collaboration with gearcraftdepot.se – a brand new webshop with everything you need for your boat! 📍 Route: Dunkirk (France) to Bologne-sur-Mer (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1276 Nautical Miles 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We lock out from the IJsselmeer lake into the Atlantic sea and begin our journey south through the English Channel. With fast winds on our side, we sail along the coasts of the Netherlands and Belgium, and finally make it to France. 🇫🇷 Along the way, we reunite with our friends, who recently had the unfortunate accident of hitting an unmarked buoy in the dark while sailing to Helgoland. It’s a very happy reunion, not only for us but for our dogs too.❤️ ⚓️ This video is made in collaboration with gearcraftdepot.se – a brand new webshop with everything you need for your boat! 📍 Route: Enkhuizen (Netherlands) to Dunkirk (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1228 Nautical Miles 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We’ve now sailed 1024 nautical miles from our hometown Stockholm all the way to the Netherlands, on our journey towards the Mediterranean. In this video, we continue our adventure through the famous Standing Mast Route, a unique canal system that lets sailboats cross the country without lowering the mast. ⛵️ The Dutch canals has truly amazed us, from sailing above highways to passing countless bridges and locks, meeting big barges, and exploring charming Dutch towns. Sometimes the passage is smooth, other times chaotic with many boats squeezing through the same narrow bridge. We then exit the canals into the largest manmade lake in Western Europe, setting course for Amsterdam. But instead of sailing into the city, we make a last-minute choice to take the train, but we and end up having a beautiful touristy day in Amsterdam. After two months at sea, we’ve left Stockholm, Sweden behind, crossed the Baltic, and entered the Atlantic through the Kiel Canal. On the way, we even traded sailboats, selling our old 33-foot cruiser and buying a 37-foot Bavaria, better suited for the seas ahead. ⛵️ In this video, we explore the remote island of Helgoland, known for its dramatic cliffs, birdlife, and intense rafting (boats tied together in huge clusters). From there, we sail down the German coast and into the Netherlands to take on the famous Standing Mast Route, a pretty surreal experience where you guide your sailboat like a car, passing through cities, under countless bridges, and even mooring right in the middle of town. We’re learning to handle tides, bigger waves, and busier waters as we get one step closer to our dream: sailing all the way to the Mediterranean. 📍 Route: Helgoland (Germany) to Dokkum (Netherlands) 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the doxie (dachshund) If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re a Swedish couple (and a sausage dog) who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean in our 33 ft sailboat from 1980. 🔔 If you love real-life sailing stories and adventures where we learn as we go, don’t forget to subscribe and join us on the journey! 🎬 Want to see when we sail south along the Swedish coast and archipelago? In this episode we take our new sailboat (Bavaria 37 from 2000) on its first big test as we cross the Kiel Canal, the famous shortcut that connects the Baltic Sea to the North Sea 🛳️🚢 You’ll see us navigating through crowded locks, surrounded by massive cargo ships and hectic sailboats, while giving our engine a big test. The Kiel Canal transit is around 60 nautical miles nautical miles, and once we reach the rough North Sea, we quickly realize how different it is to sail with tides and currents. And it’s really leveling up the difficulty level of sailing south.⛵️ But the real drama unfolds as we continue our journey towards Helgoland together with friends… and things take an unexpected turn 😰 Don’t forget to subscribe to follow our entire journey from Sweden to the Mediterranean - this is just the beginning! 🌍 0:00 – What’s coming in this video 1:38 – Fixing day & ask your questions 8:28 – Sailing towards the Kiel Canal 11:40 – Entering the locks with big ships 20:37 – Sunny Kiel Camal day 2 27:35 – Sailing into the Atlantic sea 35:25 – Pitch black sailing & a mayday 📍 Route: Olpenitz (Germany) to Helgoland (Germany) 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the doxie (dachshund) If you're new to our channel, welcome! Will We Find a New Boat After Selling Our Floating Home? | Sailing to the Mediterranean with Our Dog
We’ve done something crazy😱 After sailing our 33-foot sailboat Lady Four from Stockholm to Kiel with our dog Nora, we made a bold and quick decision to sell her, just before entering the Kiel Canal and heading for the Atlantic. Within 24 hours, we went from full-time boat life to no boat, no home, and no plan B. We started to frantically search for our next sailboat, the one that will carry us all the way to the Mediterranean and become our new floating home.⛵️In this video, you’ll follow slong to see if we find her! If you are new here we are Linn and Erik, a couple in our twenties sailing full-time to the Mediterranean with our dachshund Nora.🩵 🔔 Subscribe to join our journey to the Med, boat upgrades, and life at sea with a dog. #sailing #sailboat #sailors #boatlife #adventure #lifestyle
In this video, we leave Denmark and sail into Germany, ready to enter the Kiel Canal. But then we make a rather drastic decision – to sell our sailboat, Lady Four, and everything changes. 💔 Now we’re standing in Germany without a boat, without a home, and without a place to put all our stuff. So we rent a car, find a storage unit, and try to figure things out from there. Are we crazy? 😅 Maybe! ⛵️ Is this the end of our sailing journey? NO! We're planning to buy a bigger boat, something that makes full-time liveaboard life a bit easier and more suited to our long-term adventure. We already have one potential new boat on our radar… but whether we buy it or not, you’ll have to wait and see in the next video. Welcome back!💙 In this video, we finally sail out of Sweden and into Denmark! We get some really nice winds from behind and can sail with a broad reach. The big waves Denmark gives us make us surf on the waves and hit our speed record of 12 knots, which is pretty impressive for our 33-foot boat! 🌊 We really enjoy the Danish coast and get some lovely summer weather, plus we cook onboard (you MUST try the Smashed Burger Taco if you haven’t! 🍔). We also have a picnic outside on the Danish version of Key West. In the next video, you’ll find out why we say goodbye to Lady Four 😢 but it sure doesn’t mean the end of our sailing adventure! Hi friends and welcome back 👋 This video was filmed about two weeks ago, and since then, a LOT has happened. The big news is that we’ve sold our sailboat Lady Four in Kiel!💔⛵ It was a well-thought-out decision, but things happened fast. And right now, she’s on her way back to Denmark, where she’ll have her new home. That means we’re currently boatless… but not for long hopefully! We think we’ve found our next sailboat. the one that will take us all the way to the Mediterranean (why we’re doing this you’ll hear more about in the coming videos). Stay tuned, because this next chapter is going to be exciting.💬 For live updates about this, follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sailanddoxie/ ⛵ In this video we continue sailing down the beautiful south coast of Sweden, passing the southernmost point of the country. We finally get some much-awaited downwind sailing and get up at sunrise to catch the best winds. We also spontaneously meet up my dad in Skåne, our first time seeing someone we know in over three weeks! 🫶 And if that wasn’t enough, we also meet up with some friends along the coast too. Lots of good energy, good winds, and great company in this video. Come aboard when we sail from Sweden to the Mediterranean!⛵️ If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re a Swedish couple (and a sausage dog) who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean in our 33 ft sailboat from 1980. In this video we continue sailing south through Sweden in the windiest summer this country has seen in years! 🌬️We battle relentless headwinds and spend hours tacking without getting far. It's slow progress, and at times we’re windbound, stuck waiting out the weather…🥲 We begin our journey in Kalmar, a charming little town on the east coast, and cross over to Öland, Sweden’s second-largest island. But instead of summer vibes, we’re greeted by stormy winds and empty streets, it feels like a ghost town (or nuclear town😆). From there, we face our longest sail so far, 12 hours of non-stop tacking and bouncing in rough waves. Not the most fun day at sea! But it’s not all struggle, we also enjoy beautiful views, liveaboard life, and we meet new American sailing friends who invite us for dinner aboard their cool boat, Rockhopper. Welcome aboard!⛵️🌞We’re Linn, Erik, and our little dachshund skipper Nora, and we’ve just begun our biggest adventure yet: sailing from Sweden to the Mediterranean! This is our second leg south, and we kicked it off by celebrating a traditional Swedish Midsummer on the island of Harstena. An idyllic, magical place that gave us a true taste of summer. 🇸🇪 But the idyll doesn’t last… As we continue sailing south toward Västervik, we get hit by a powerful squall, with winds reaching up to 50 knots and thunder rolling all around! ⛈️ Luckily, we made it through and were rewarded with better sailing days ahead. Along the way, you’ll also get a glimpse into our everyday life living on a boat with a dog, exploring Sweden’s beautiful coastline, and learning how to manage liveaboard life.
