I thought this crossing would be about getting from the Caribbean to France. It wasn’t. It was about learning who I am when things don’t go to plan. No ha sido un camino fácil; nos equivocamos con el grosor de las planchas, tuvimos que recurrir a retales del varadero para solucionar la falta de material y el viento de Grecia no paró de soplarnos con fuerza durante las soldaduras críticas. A pesar de no contar con todas las herramientas profesionales ni ser soldadores expertos, le hemos echado ganas, ingenio y muchas horas de radial y pulido para dejar la estructura lo más funcional y brillante posible. When we were sailing in Martinique, we bought three little copper washers. When we inquired why they cost $64 we were told it's because they have holes in them, those holes cost a lot. In England we found the same washers for $4.67 each. As we sail out sailboat further west, everything becomes more expensive. A day in the life with Dutch Olympic 49er sailors Bart Lambriex van Aanholt & Floris van De Werken 🇳🇱 Three-time consecutive World Champions (2021, 2022 & 2023), Bart and Floris are in Palma de Mallorca preparing for the 2026 Trofeo Princesa Sofía, one of the biggest events of the season. This year looks a little different for Bart. Alongside his sailing campaign, he's adapting to life on the road with his wife Odile van Aanholt, Olympic champion and 49erFX sailor, and their newborn daughter Kato. Thankfully, family support is never far away, with grandparents joining the trip to help look after Kato while training and racing take priority. Follow along from sunrise to sunset as the boys start the day early, head to the boat park for registration, photoshoots, physio sessions, and boat preparation before joining the fleet on the water for training races ahead of the regatta. After sailing, it's back to shore to de-rig, sticker the boat, recover, and recharge. While Bart enjoys some family time, Floris heads to the gym to squeeze in one final session before another day of racing. Our channel is all about sailing the Mediterranean. We help anyone who wants to sail the Mediterranean, whether they are brand new at it, aspiring to go, or just arm-chair traveling. We generally post about our adventures with beautiful scenary and helpful hints, but we also post about the challenges too and how we resolve them. This time our journey included joining the Yacht Club of Capo D'Orlando and all the participants of the Eolian Cup in Salina, Sicily. The first day included the joy of participating as the race committee boat. The second as "self-appointed" photography team. The last day we will miss unfortunately.
