🌊 THE OCEAN HAD OTHER PLANS! | Sailing Home to Florida After 36 countries and countless miles at sea, we’ve finally LEFT our final country — the Dominican Republic. Now it’s time for our last multi-day passage as we make our way home to Florida… or at least, that was the plan! With incredible winds behind us, our boat is flying, and suddenly we realize we’re going to arrive in St. Augustine nearly two days earlier than expected. Rather than rush into port, we make an unplanned detour to Ft. Pierce to reconnect with a great friend we met on the dock three years ago, just before we left on this incredible journey. Old San Juan to Glowing Seas - Sailing Puerto Rico This week, we leave the USVI behind and set our sails for Culebrita — a stunning, isolated tropical paradise where we slow down and spend a few unforgettable days surrounded by nothing but turquoise water, beaches, and the feeling of being completely off the grid. But the adventure is only getting started. ⛵ From Culebrita, we sail to Culebra, where we experience one of the most incredible natural spectacles of the entire journey — bioluminescent waters so bright they seem to glow beneath our boat. After a few peaceful days exploring the tiny island of Palermo, we point the bow toward San Juan. Sailing past the massive historic fort and into the harbor feels like entering another world. Set sail with us as we leave the lush island of Martinique behind and continue our Caribbean adventure! 🌴⛵ After a quick overnight stop in Dominica, we arrive in the breathtaking archipelago of Îles des Saintes, Guadeloupe—one of the most picturesque destinations in the French Caribbean. From there, we hit the road to explore Guadeloupe, driving from the colorful fishing village of Deshaies to the white-sand beaches of Sainte-Anne. While it's only 40 miles, the winding mountain roads and rugged terrain make for an unforgettable 1 hour 40 minute journey through some of the island's most stunning scenery. Along the way, we stop at Crayfish Waterfall, one of the most popular waterfalls on the island—and easily one of the most crowded waterfalls we've ever visited! To top it all off, Rob and I tackle our third volcano hike together, battling 40-knot winds, pouring rain, and challenging conditions before reaching the summit. It wasn't easy, but the adventure was worth every step! As the sun rises, we're welcomed by an unforgettable view of the iconic Grand Piton—one of the most breathtaking arrivals we've experienced in the Caribbean. From there, we continue north to Rodney Bay, where it's time to clear into the country, restock the boat, and—much to our excitement—find some of our favorite American foods at the local grocery store! We wrap up the day with a hike to historic Fort Rodney, where incredible views and fascinating history make for the perfect ending to our first day exploring St. Lucia. French Guiana turned out to be one of the most challenging and surprising stops of our world circumnavigation. What should have been a simple arrival quickly became an anchoring nightmare. Strong currents, muddy bottoms, and difficult conditions forced us to anchor multiple times before finally finding a spot that would hold. It's easy to understand why many cruisers skip French Guiana altogether. But despite the challenges, this unique overseas territory of France has plenty to offer.
