Unfortunately, the J2 furler failure precipitated the inevitable. And it came with a steep price tag. To repair the drum on deck, Conrad and Elie spent no less than 2.5 hours working in wildly unstable conditions and a rough sea state. “Of course, that’s the exact moment the front swept over us. When I felt the rain start falling, it just broke my heart. We were heading North to repair, instead of making easting... As a result, we got completely uncoupled from the weather system. The other boats had no issues. They kept blasting ahead, locked in ahead of the front.” Now dropped into a different air mass, the chances of closing the gap on the pack are slipping away, leaving the crew to play their own hand. But it will take a lot more than that to dent the morale onboard. L'avarie de l'enrouleur du J2 aura malheureusement précipité l'inévitable. Et la note est particulièrement salée. Pour réparer le tambour sur le pont, Conrad et Elie ont passé pas moins de 2h30 dans des conditions plus qu'instables et une mer formée. « Évidemment, c'est le moment précis où le front nous a balayés. Quand j'ai senti la pluie tomber, ça m'a fendu le cœur. On faisait du Nord pour réparer, et plus d'Est... Résultat : on s'est fait totalement décaler du système météo. Les autres bateaux n'ont pas eu de pépin. Ils ont continué à tracer, bien calés devant le front. » Désormais relégués dans un autre flux, les chances de recoller au paquet se réduisent, imposant à l'équipage de jouer sa propre partition. 🇳🇿🇺🇸 // Day 2 was a proper test on the nerves for Team MSIG Europe, forcing our first emergency op out on the foredeck. As a heavy squall hit, we had to furl the J2 under massive load. The line couldn't take the extreme strain and let go, locking up the drum. It took a long, brutal, and fully committed effort to get it sorted, but a clever Dyneema lash got us back on track and reliable. Situation’s back under control, the rig is intact, and MSIG Europe is back to 100%! We do love a happy ending… and a quick pit stop treat. However, if you go overboard, hydro-pressure makes climbing back on deck virtually impossible while tethered to the boat. Here’s a full-scale demonstration as Conrad goes into the water to test the complete MOB safety chain: from the @SpinlockHQ HRS quick release to the Jon Buoy and Lifesling recovery procedure. Début avril, MSIG Europe a quitté les pontons de Lorient La Base direction Hennebont pour une sortie d’eau en vue d'un chantier de printemps millimétré. Après un tour du monde et une transatlantique, le chantier est à la hauteur de l'intensité des milles parcourus en 2025. « C’est une phase excitante car notre succès cette saison se joue en grande partie maintenant, durant cette préparation. In early April, the IMOCA MSIG Europe left Lorient La Base for Hennebont to begin a precision-led spring refit. After a round-the-world race and a transatlantic in 2025, this spring refit is on par with the intensity of the miles covered. "This is an exciting phase because our success or failure this season is largely determined by the work that is done now in the pre-season. Stakes are high!" The mission for the next two months: a full structural and hydraulic overhaul, followed by deck sanding and a fresh non-skid coating... Such an amazing feeling to attend the premiere of our documentary, Convergence!!! After weeks of shooting and months of post-production, I loved every moment at the Grand Rex theatre in Paris while reliving the Transat Café L'Or with @mathieu_blanchard!
