It's one of the smaller groups of cabins on the ship, sitting on the same deck as the pools and the buffet rather than on one of the main accommodation decks below. That brings a few trade-offs worth understanding before you choose it, and we go through them properly in this video. A Lido Deck cabin puts you a very short walk from the pool deck and the buffet, which some Escapaders like a great deal. Others would rather be further from the footfall. Neither view is wrong — it depends on how you use the ship during the day. One thing worth doing before you book any cabin: look at the deck plan above and below you, not just your own deck. ► The long-awaited big brother of the proven Knysna 500SE is finally afloat! At the Annapolis Sailboat Show, our CEO Gwen Dorning had the opportunity to discover this South African-built bluewater cruising catamaran at its world premiere. Better still, she was lucky enough to get aboard for a sail on Chesapeake Bay! ► The yacht we tested (hull #2) had only just completed her Atlantic crossing from South Africa with her Owners. After 20 years sailing a 45-foot monohull, they decided to make the switch to a multihull, prioritizing comfort, safety and ease of handling for extended cruising. And who could blame them? "Our sea trial began in a light breeze, with just 6 knots of apparent wind," Gwen explains. "Yet even in these conditions, the Knysna 550 managed to maintain a speed of 4 to 5 knots - a pleasant first surprise! When the wind picked up to 16-18 knots, the catamaran really accelerated, and our GPS showed 10 to 10.3 knots under mainsail and genoa. What is a safe speed at sea, and who decides it? COLREGs Rule 6 explained: every factor of safe speed in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs / IRPCS), shown with true-to-scale animation from the bridge. There is no speed limit in the rules of the road at sea.
