The 2025 Narrows Regatta finished on a high under bright blue skies with a beautiful breeze which powered the boats into the lough. It was a close call if our J109 Going to Red could hold the kite with the increased apparent wind which was whipped up with the strong in running tide. The redline racing team was under pressure shortly after the start with the fast charging A35 making life difficult until they snapped the overlap an raced off into the lough. It was a great ride into the lough with the J109 just behind the hard charging sport boats fleet and just ahead of the Melges 24. Timing is everything when the left hand side of the beat is favoured. Black flag was up which created a bigger sag in the centre of the line. Timing the run to the pin allowed us to force the trailing boats into a down speed tack, a loose cover to windward and off to the top mark in a tight race. The J109 Going to Red was in a good position to leeward of the at the start of the Portaferry regatta 2025. It was a perfect day for sailing with the sun shinning on the river and close racing between all the boats. The redline racing team did not look back after leading on the main part of the lough increasing their lead at every mark to take the win in the the final race of the 2025 Narrows Season. Big Sails win big races and fortune favoured the brave with the Redline Racing Team making the big call to set the A2 at the start and blast downwind to enter the lough at over 15 knots over the ground. After a great start on the J109 GTR the A35 was on the prowl with their big mast head kite casting a wind shadow over the race leader. We made a poor decision not to stay clear ahead at all cost which ended up us costing the race. The A3 slipped to leeward, got out of the tide, lead at the first mark before sailing away to take the race victory.
