We’re finally **off the dock** and heading back to what we love most — Open ocean and island hopping** ⛵️ After an amazing time in Bimini, it was time to let go, cast off, and chase the perfect weather window. With ideal conditions lined up, we made the call to sail **25 hours straight to the Exumas** — no hesitation, no looking back. There’s a mix of emotions leaving the dock: a little sadness, a lot of excitement, and that unbeatable feeling of freedom the moment the lines come off. This is what being “real sailors” is all about — trusting the forecast, trusting the boat, and embracing the journey ahead. Come along as we depart, settle into passage life, and start an epic sail toward some of the most beautiful waters in the Bahamas. 🌊☀️ 👉 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and sail with us to the Exumas! #SailingLife #OffTheDock #SailboatLife #BahamasSailing #Exumas #Liveaboard #SailingVlog #OceanPassage FOLLOW US ON SOCIALS❤️⛵️ Insta - https://www.instagram.com/sailingzola/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064845617659 #Sailing #Catamaran #Bahamas
I sleep on the floor in a traditional Sasak hut with woven from bamboo, no walls, just air, and wake up to the perfect cone of Mount Rinjani glowing in the sunrise. We scooter to a stunning waterfall, watch men balance 60 kg rice sacks on their tiny bikes like it’s nothing, get a private tour of an organic farm and eat raw cacao beans straight off the cacao tree. Local women weave beautiful fabric right in front of me, we make our own lunch in a restaurant, and then the monsoon hits: in ten minutes we’re soaked to the bone, sliding through mud, laughing hysterically in the pouring rain. Back at the marina it’s pure magic: several gamelan groups playing, horses being bathed in the sea, and everyone dancing. This is the Lombok almost nobody ever sees. 💙 Love my videos? These boats are tougher than a two-dollar steak. Today, we're diving into the Top 10 European Sailboats That Never Break Down. Najad 34: A rock-solid cruiser that punches well above its weight. Moody 376: The dependable British workhorse with bulletproof construction. Ovni 345: The aluminum adventurer built for the roughest (and shallowest) waters. Rustler 36: The Golden Globe Race favorite designed to take care of its crew in any storm.
Day 3 delivered a complete contrast to the strong offshore winds of Day 2. While the forecast hinted at fading light northerlies, the racecourse came alive with a classic southern thermal, setting up a full afternoon of tactical, high-quality racing across the fleets. 🔹 *420 Male/Mixed* We opened coverage with the 420 Male/Mixed fleet, where consistency proved decisive. 🇺🇦 Ukraine’s Sviatoslav Madonich and Dmytro Karabadzhak claimed two race wins to maintain their overall lead. 🇮🇱 Israel’s Ziv Shtub and Loya Sheffler put together a strong day to move into a tie for first, while 🇫🇷 France’s Simon Prot and Swan Joyet round out the podium positions. 🔹 *ILCA Fleets* In *ILCA 6 Men*, 🇺🇸 American David Coates moved into the overall lead after scoring a 1st, 2nd, and 6th. 🇨🇿 Jiri Tomes (CZE) and 🇨🇾 Emilios Boeros (CYP) sit second and third. The *ILCA 6 Women* saw a dominant performance from 🇪🇸 Irene de Tomás, extending her lead to 16 points. 🇮🇪 Sienna Wright (IRL) is second, followed by 🇺🇦 Alina Shapovalova (UKR) in third. 🔹 *Morning Fleets* The morning session featured *Nacra 15, 29er Male/Mixed, and iQFOiL*. Light winds led to slalom racing for the iQFOiL sailors. 🇮🇱 Peleg Rajuan retained the men’s overall lead, while 🇮🇹 Medea Falcioni held onto the women’s lead. In the *Nacra 15, 🇫🇷 Marius Praud and Emilie Mansouri extended their advantage, and in the **29er Male/Mixed*, 🇵🇱 Szymon Kolka and Bartosz Zmudzinski moved into the overall lead. 🔹 *420 Female* The afternoon broadcast focused on the 420 Female fleet, completing three races. 🇬🇧 Sabine Potter and Merle Nieuwland climbed into the overall lead, with 🇫🇷 Emy Combet and Juliette Peyre in second, tied on points with 🇳🇿 Tessa Clinton and Amelia Higson in third. 🔹 *Late Racing* Later in the day, the *29er Female* and *Formula Kite* fleets finally launched. The 29er Female fleet completed three races, with 🇵🇱 Antonina Puchowska and Alicja Dampc now leading overall. The *Formula Kite Men and Women* both completed three races, with early leaders 🇨🇭 Gian Andrea Stragiotti and 🇨🇳 Suofeiya Li. Day 3 was all about adaptation — from light offshore conditions in the morning to an unstable but productive afternoon thermal. With leaderboards tightening and momentum shifting, the championship is building toward an exciting finish. 👉 Subscribe and follow our livestreams and social channels for daily highlights, live racing, and updates. #YSWC2025 #420sailing #29ersailing #nacra15 #ilca #IQFoil #FormulaKite

This video follows us from Cape Coral, FL to Andros Island Bahamas with a quick stop in Marathon FL. It was an uneventful fairly easy and comfortable gulf stream crossing that took a total of about 39 hours. We arrived in a packed harbor filled with 7 buddy boats from Boot Key harbor in Marathon and a week later we were the only boat left. Morgan Bluff has been our home for the last week and a half and we are enjoying slowly slipping into island time. We sail deep into the Arctic and make our first anchorage in the ice. Growlers drift past the hull, polar bears leave their traces ashore, and every decision suddenly matters. This episode of Expedition Svalbard follows our offshore passage from mainland Norway to Spitsbergen, a 165-nautical-mile sail into high-latitude waters. Departing on Bjørnøya in freezing temperatures, we deal with shifting winds, currents, long watches and the constant challenge of managing the boat in near-zero conditions. As the mountains of southern Spitsbergen emerge from the clouds, the realities of Arctic sailing set in. We navigate through drifting growlers, monitor ice charts, and prepare for polar bear safety — a legal and practical necessity when going ashore in Svalbard. Before landfall, we practise deterrence procedures and review what it truly means to operate in polar bear country. Anchoring in Hornsund near the Polish research station, we experience the uneasy calm of ice at anchor: the constant clicking of melting growlers, shifting conditions, and the need for vigilance at all times. Ashore, we carefully scout the coastline, finding traces of wildlife and exploring the remains of historic trapping huts and early whaling activity — quiet evidence of how humans once survived in this harsh environment. This episode captures the moment when Arctic sailing stops being theoretical and becomes lived experience: cold, remote, beautiful, and unforgiving. From offshore seamanship and ice navigation to first landfall on Spitsbergen, this is expedition sailing at the edge of the navigable world. ⛵ Expedition Svalbard is a real-world sailing documentary about high-latitude sailing, ice navigation, polar bear awareness and respectful exploration of the Arctic. Meet MARE, a rare Via 52 aluminum expedition sailboat built for serious passagemaking and modern long-range cruising. Purpose-designed as a true go-anywhere bluewater voyager, MARE pairs the strength and safety of welded aluminum construction with a shoal-draft / beaching-capable centerboard configuration—yet still delivers deep-draft sailing performance when the board is down. A major part of MARE’s appeal is her full insulation, making her exceptionally well-suited for high-latitude cruising and comfortable living across a wide range of climates. On deck, the protected cockpit and pilothouse/deckhouse design provide outstanding shelter from wind, spray, and sun—exactly what experienced offshore sailors want when the miles (and weather) stack up. Sunk Without a Life Raft: The Flaws of “Hidden” Blue Water Boats. The 2019 sinking of the Essence off the coast of New Zealand wasn't just a tragedy—it was a masterclass in the dangers of Blue Water Boats that are not up to date with modern standards. We often talk about "Blue Water Boats" as if the hull layup alone is a suit of armor that never expires. But the sea doesn’t care about your boat's pedigree if your systems are stuck in the 1990's or before. In this episode, we dissect why a heavy-displacement cruiser (Bavaria 47 Ocean) ended up on the seabed and why "Hidden Blue Water" boats often mask a false sense of security. What We Cover: The Myth of the Bulletproof structures: Why structural integrity is only half the battle when your safety gear is inaccessible or outdated or even not positioned properly. Evolution of Standards: Standards change for a reason. If your boat hasn't been updated to modern offshore specs, you’re sailing a museum, not a rescue craft. The Life Raft Dilemma: Why "having" the gear isn't enough if you can't deploy it when the high-side becomes the low-side. The Take-Homes: 1. True Seamanship: It’s more than just knowing your knots. It is the Mind of a Sailor - having one consistent, rigorous mental framework that you apply to every vessel you step aboard, regardless of size or reputation. 2. Certification is Non-Negotiable: Don’t bet your life on "experience" alone. High-level Safety at Sea Certification (from World Sailing, US Sailing, or Australian Sailing) provides the muscle memory and technical knowledge that saves lives when the water starts rising. "A blue water boat is only as offshore-ready as the sailor standing watch." Check your gear. Update your standards. Stay on top of the water. If you found this analysis helpful, consider subscribing to the Ministry of Sailing for more deep dives into maritime safety and seamanship. Britt Ward, the newly appointed owner, president, and principal designer of Farr Yacht Design, has been with the iconic Annapolis-based firm since 1996. Inspired by Australia II’s historic 1983 America’s Cup win, Ward pursued naval architecture from a young age, studying at Webb Institute and later earning a master’s degree focused on hydrodynamics at MIT. Over nearly 30 years at Farr, he has worked on everything from paddleboards to 140-foot superyachts, America’s Cup programs, production cruiser-racers, and advanced military and commercial vessels. Today, Ward leads a diverse portfolio of projects, including new cruiser-racers, superyachts for Southern Wind, innovative production concepts, and an upcoming multihull line. With a deep belief in the blend of art and science, his work emphasizes accessibility, ease of sailing, refined performance, and smart industrial design. Under his leadership, Farr Yacht Design is entering a new chapter—expanding into multihulls, advancing high-tech tools and simulations, and applying racing-level innovation across the cruising, charter, and commercial sectors. ► In Amsterdam, we met up with Stephen Weatherley, CEO and founder of Archipelago Yachts, and he presented the shipyard’s current direction and unveiled their current projects. His vision is based on an approach that places engineering, design, and propulsion systems at the forefront, applied to the demanding market sector of aluminum powercats. ► Based in Hampshire, on the south coast of England, Archipelago Yachts designs and builds motor catamarans from 40 to 80 feet in length, with construction on the Isle of Wight. This organization allows for strong continuity between design, engineering, and manufacturing, in an industrial environment with a long maritime tradition. ► From the outset, Weatherley was keen to emphasize the fundamental choice of aluminum: “We exclusively build aluminum catamarans. The entire range is designed around this material because it allows us to work on the structure, durability, and integration of systems right from the start.” ► He also champions the material for its structural qualities, longevity, and recyclability. The platforms are designed from a global perspective, with particular attention being paid to the architecture of the hulls, weight distribution, and systems’ installation. ►Propulsion is one of the shipyard’s major areas of development. Archipelago now offers several configurations to suit different uses. “We offer conventional diesel, diesel-electric hybrid, and we are about to launch a fully electric model,” Weatherley told us. The yard’s powercats are designed to accommodate these different types of propulsion without major modifications. The coachroof is well-sized to accommodate solar panels, capable of covering part of the energy needs on board, particularly for domestic use. ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Designed for leisure boaters under sail or power, Ocean Safety's Jon Buoy EVAC has been developed to bridge the gap between a liferaft and traditional man overboard devices. Lightweight, portable and simple to deploy, it provides vital peace of mind without the bulk of a conventional raft. We spoke to Oceean Safety's Alistair Hackett to find out more about EVAC. Key features include automatic inflation, an inflatable arch and canopy, a boarding ladder and grab handles for accessibility, and a weighted keel for stability. Supplied in a semi-rigid valise with a three-year service interval, the EVAC combines ease of stowage with dependable protection in an emergency. #yacht #rib #safety
