In this patron Q&A podcast, I answer some of the most common—and most interesting—questions viewers have been asking. I talk about what happened with recent crew members, how I find people to join the boat, the couple who were supposed to launch a Sailing Doodles spin-off channel, whether I’m in a relationship, my changing thoughts about Thailand, plans for the new catamaran, the Mediterranean, the flotilla, and whether I’m seriously considering buying a motor yacht and doing the Great Loop. I also tell a disturbing offshore story about a friend who hired a delivery captain to sail his yacht from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean. In the middle of the Atlantic, the captain suffered a serious mental-health crisis and threatened to jump overboard. My friend had to change course and divert the yacht to the Azores so the captain could safely get ashore and receive help. It raises an important question: what do you do when someone panics, becomes unstable, or simply cannot handle being at sea—with nowhere nearby to get off the boat? Thanks to all the patrons and viewers who submitted questions. This week we take our new dinghy on an 80-mile round-trip adventure across the Bahamas to refuel and explore some of the most remote spearfishing grounds we've ever dived. With glass-calm conditions, massive reef walls, giant coral heads, and plenty of sharks, we search for elusive black grouper, chase birds for tuna, and end up with an incredible mixed bag including permit, yellow jack, and Cero mackerel. After an epic day of freediving, we head back to the sailboat for an amazing Bahamas catch and cook, making fresh sushi, carpaccio, and fried sushi rolls with fish caught just hours earlier. If you love Bahamas sailing, spearfishing, freediving, fishing adventures, catch and cook videos, and life on a sailboat, you're in the right place! #Bahamas #Spearfishing #CatchAndCook #Freediving #Fishing #Sushi #BlackGrouper #Permit #Sailing #Adventure BUFFALO GEAR FISH BAG LINK Use Code - banner10 https://alnk.to/28VNHvi FOLLOW US ON SOCIALS❤️⛵️ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/sailingzola - https://www.instagram.com/captbanner - https://www.instagram.com/nautinellie Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064845617659 #Sailing #Catchandcook #spearfishing #fishing #Catamaran #Bahamas #SailingLife #SailingTheBahamas #BoatLife #Liveaboard #CatamaranLife #Exumas #SailingAdventure #CruisingLife #LifeAtSea #OffGridLiving #CouplesWhoSail #SailboatLife #oceanlife
Today's the day that this once abandoned, unlivable Derek Kelsall Catamaran OFFICIALLY becomes a home with a toilet and shower. With a bare hull to work with, we're designing our grey and black water waste systems from scratch with the help of our good mate, Daryll. Less than 2 weeks out until we're leaving this marina for good and we need a toilet...or this bucket's going to wish Phoebe hadn't found it in the bin 😅 _____________________________________________________________________________ PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/TheNewKidsOnTheDock PAYPAL: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KNLJDGDXPAYAU WISHLIST: https://www.myregistry.com/wishlist/josh-and-phoebe-coomera-queensland/5046646 _____________________________________________________________________________ We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and seas which we work, play and live on: the Kombumerri peoples. After 10 years and 90,000 nautical miles, this is the last video under the Sailing Zingaro name. In 2016 I bought a catamaran, pointed a camera at myself, and made a promise: I'll go, and I'll take you with me. The good, the bad, the ugly. You watched me sail to Ecuador, Easter Island, and Pitcairn. You watched me lose that catamaran off Hawaii. You watched me refit an Oyster 485 over five years, write a book, and become someone with something to say about the ocean. The promise doesn't change. The name does. This channel is now BE THE CAPTAIN: true stories from the sea. Real disasters, real survival, real investigations, told hour by hour by a delivery captain who has stood watch in the same waters and made some of the same mistakes. Every story traces the failure chain back to where it actually started, and what it teaches you about judgment under pressure, whether you sail or not. First up: Rose-Noëlle. 1989. A trimaran flips in the Southern Ocean and four men spend 119 days inside the upturned hull. Everyone gave them up for dead. It's one of the greatest survival stories ever told, and almost nobody knows it. ⚓ THE BOOK Be The Captain, winner of the 2026 Eric Hoffer Award: https://bethecaptain.com/ ⚓ RECOMMENDED GEAR Defender Marine has been outfitting boaters since 1938: https://defender.com Get 10% off your next Defender order when you purchase Be The Captain at bethecaptain.com Much love. We're saying goodbye to our 37-foot sailboat that has been our home for almost a year… and now the search for our next floating home begins. ⛵️ 📣 Ad for own business! We’ve just launched our own shop at sailanddoxie.com - here you’ll find our custom digital sailing guides for the English Channel, as well as the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Spain and Portugal. In this episode, we hand over our Bavaria 37 to its new owner in Spain before heading to the French Riviera to begin one of the biggest and most exciting chapters of our sailing journey: finding the right liveaboard sailboat. Third time's the charm, right? 😉 We're looking for something bigger, newer, and better equipped for off-grid living as we continue our dream of sailing the Mediterranean and, one day, crossing the Atlantic. Join us as we tour several sailboats, compare layouts, weigh the pros and cons of each, and see if we've finally found the one. Will we find our dream liveaboard sailboat before this trip is over? If you’d like to become part of our journey and support our sailing adventures, you can join as a Youtube member here 👉 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg3j6Cp-_RTS4JABFtgBDxA/join We are incredibly grateful for every single one of you 🫶 If you're new here, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a recently married Swedish couple in our early 30s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean with our dachshund, Nora. We started our journey on a 33-foot sailboat from 1980, which we later sold in Kiel. Shortly after, we upgraded to a Bavaria 37 (2000), better suited for the adventures ahead. When you’re preparing for an adventure like the Golden Globe Race, you expect things to go wrong. What you don’t expect is to find them this close to the start. I won’t lie. When we found the crack, my heart sank. Not because I knew what it meant… But because I didn’t. The uncertainty is the hardest part. Right now, I’m waiting for answers. Best-case scenario, it’s cosmetic and we move on. Worst-case scenario, it changes everything. I’ve always promised to share this journey as it really is. Not just the sunsets and dolphins. But also the moments where you question everything, take a deep breath, and keep solving one problem at a time. This race starts long before the starting gun. It starts here. With dirty hands. Hard conversations. Unexpected setbacks. And hundreds of decisions that nobody sees.
Check out the Fitnexa SomniPods 3 here to apply $10 off: https://go.fitnexa.com/wyIdKP #Fitnexa #SomniPods3 #travelsleep What started as a few small cracks quickly turned into a more involved repair than we expected… While inspecting our sailboat’s rudder, Jase noticed cracking around the rudder stock. What seemed like a minor cosmetic issue led us to grind back a small area of fiberglass to see how far the cracks went. By the time we reached solid material, we had uncovered a section that needed proper attention. With the damaged area exposed, it was time to learn a completely new skill. Using epoxy, fiberglass, and fairing techniques, we carefully rebuilt and reshaped the rudder back to its original profile. It was a challenging repair, but one that gave us the confidence to tackle future maintenance projects with a little more know-how. #BoatRepair #FiberglassRepair #diyboatrepair ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ⛵ Join us aboard our 40ft sailboat, Escapade, as we prepare for our upcoming Pacific crossing. 🔥 If you're enjoying the videos, you can Hype this episode on YouTube to help support the channel and share our adventures with more people. 🎥 Watch from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcpg_1nM2Z5zzbEr20cfs0K1W3FAV46DJ 🫶🏽 Patreon (early access / ad-free): https://www.patreon.com/Leadingtheescapade ☕ One-off support: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/leadingtheescapade
53 days to go! A month ago, I thought the hard part was behind me. The boat had a new rig. The plan was simple. A quick sail to Guernsey, install my second Hydrovane, sail back, and spend the final weeks ticking off the last few jobs. Instead, one short sail changed everything. It’s frustrating. It’s expensive. And, if I’m honest, it’s scary. But I’d rather discover these problems now than halfway through the Southern Ocean. People often ask if I’m nervous about sailing solo around the world. The answer is no. What keeps me awake at night is knowing that every bolt, every fitting, every wire, every decision made before the start could make the difference between finishing the race and retiring. The ocean doesn’t care if you’re almost ready. It only cares if you’re ready. So that’s what we’re doing. Fixing everything properly. Testing it again. And making sure Showgirl is a boat I can trust with my life. The countdown hasn’t stopped. Neither have we. 🌊

This video captures the first time we came face to face after her disappearance. After my wife disappeared without warning, I became frantic and left the boat and entered a rehab up the Chesapeake Bay. Then, when i was done my 30-day alcohol treatment, as I had no home to return to...I wanted to return to Pennsylvania to find her. But I did not know where she was, and she would not answer my calls, emails or texts. I didn't know if finding her was even possible, but I knew I had to try. This video captures the raw reality of that encounter and the moment we stood face-to-face again. #Urca #VelejadoresDaUrca #ComunidadeNautica #HashtagSal #Cortes #Vela #Veleiro

There's something about exploring old places that makes you stop and wonder what life was like before us. In this episode, we anchor in Port Nellie Juan, Prince William Sound, and spend the day exploring the historic Port Nellie Juan Cannery. After carefully working our way into the bay, we launch the paddleboards and make our way through old dock remnants, collapsed building sites, rusting machinery, and artifacts scattered along the shoreline. We bushwhack through the forest following old trails, search for clues to how this remote cannery once operated, and eventually free dive beneath the surface to explore the underwater remains left behind more than a century ago. As we explored, we learned more about the history of the site and the tragedy that unfolded here. The Port Nellie Juan Cannery was established during Alaska's early commercial fishing boom and operated through the first half of the 1900s. Following Alaska statehood and changing fishing practices, the cannery eventually closed. Then, in 1964, the Good Friday Earthquake and tsunami destroyed much of the cannery's waterfront infrastructure and claimed the lives of the three caretakers who remained on site, forever changing this quiet corner of Prince William Sound. Standing among the foundations, machinery, and shoreline debris, it's hard not to imagine what daily life looked like here. What was once a busy salmon cannery has slowly been reclaimed by the forest, the tides, and time, leaving behind an incredible piece of Alaska's commercial fishing history. If you know more about the history of Port Nellie Juan or recognize any of the equipment we came across, we'd love to hear from you in the comments. We always enjoy learning more about these places. Rob and I shared an incredible adventure sailing the Pacific and Indian Oceans aboard Jaygo. Together we created memories that will stay with me forever, and I’m so grateful to everyone who joined us along the way. Many of you have been asking what happened to Sailing Jaygo, so I wanted to share the story with you. What is the difference between a cruising sail and a racing sail? ⛵ While any sail is welcome on the racecourse, racing sails are designed with a lower clew close to the deck to maximize aerodynamics. Cruising sails often have a raised clew so you can see oncoming traffic more easily! #sailing #sailingschool #sailinglife #sailinggear #sail
We make our way back home after a tiring 2 nights and in this video I show you an extended passage around South and North Stack. We're mid phase on the Neaps/Springs and we go through 2hours early, fighting the Ebb and we do run into some trouble. Do we make it and prove it can be done in a small 18 foot boat? 🌐 My new website: https://sailingwithdave.com ❤️ Comments are open, ask anything you want in the comments section! 📢 If you enjoyed this video, then please don't forget to share and let people know about the channel 🔔 Click here to "Subscribe" and never miss a video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZVuUVKKtVxulmgL3WzejjQ?sub_confirmation=1 #Sailfish 18 #Dinghysailing #MirrorDinghy #Dinghy Cruising

Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. During an electric outboard test, Editor Theo Stocker took this swirly video. The bubbles coming off the tips and forming a spiral are called cavitation. The pressure difference at the tip of the propeller is making the water boil. The pressure difference causes the water to heat up by lowering its boiling point. Whereas aeration causes the whirlpool effect. Theo filmed this on a camera at 50 frames per second. So, it looks like the propeller is going backwards. But this is an illusion. The frame rate and rpm are interacting, so the fins are not going backwards or stopping. ---- Subscribe to Yachting Monthly's Youtube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/user/YachtingMonthly/videos Subscribe to the magazine at: https://www.yachtingmonthly.com/subscriptions/yachting-monthly-subscriptions Read more sailing articles at: https://www.yachtingmonthly.com/ Like our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/yachtingmonthlymag/ Follow us on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/yachtingmonthly Follow us on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/yachtingmonthlymag/
To get a quote from Keane Specialty Insurance: https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=DSY Luxury hotel brands are entering the yachting world in a way that would have seemed unlikely only a few years ago. Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Orient Express and Aman have all launched, or are preparing to launch, their own luxury yachts, offering guests access to many aspects of the yachting lifestyle without asking them to charter an entire vessel. In this week's vlog, David Seal looks at this fascinating new sector of the industry and asks what happens when some of the world's best-known luxury hotel brands bring their hospitality experience to sea. The vlog begins with the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, including Evrima, Ilma and Luminara, before moving on to Four Seasons I, Orient Express Corinthian and Amangati, Aman's first luxury yacht currently under construction in Italy. Along the way, David explores the shipyards behind these remarkable vessels, the emphasis on generous guest space, exceptional crew-to-guest ratios and the way these yachts blur the line between luxury cruising and private yachting. The discussion also considers whether hotel-branded yachts are really competing with private yachts or whether they are creating an entirely new category of luxury travel. Ultimately, these vessels are not trying to replace private yachts. They offer something different: access to the destinations, service and atmosphere associated with yachting, but in a format designed for individual travellers rather than a single owner or charter party. Topics covered include: • Why luxury hotel brands are entering the yachting market • The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection – Evrima, Ilma and Luminara • Four Seasons I and the Four Seasons approach to hospitality at sea • Orient Express Corinthian – the world's largest sailing yacht • Amangati and Aman's vision for luxury yachting • The shipyards building these remarkable vessels • Crew-to-guest ratios and onboard experience • How hotel-branded yachts differ from traditional cruise ships • Whether they compete directly with private yachts • Why "access" may be the key to understanding this new market Follow David on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/yachts_for_sale Follow us on YouTube @Yachtsforsaleblog https://www.youtube.com/@Yachtsforsaleblog @YachtsforCharter https://www.youtube.com/@YachtsforCharter @yachtbuilders https://www.youtube.com/@yachtbuilders @YachtPodcasts https://www.youtube.com/@YachtPodcasts And our partner channels: @MarineMaxOnline @FraseryachtsSuperyachtSales @NorthropJohnson If you are interested in becoming a yacht broker: www.yachtbrokermasterclass.com And if you would like to keep updated on events at the Yachts For Sale team, you can join the free INSIDE INFO newsletter at: http://www.yachtsforsaleblog.com

Moin Skipper!
Performance is safety. That is the idea behind every Balance Catamaran, and in this conversation Balance president Phil Berman explains what it means in practice: from the Carbon Core construction of our newest models, to the assembly-line QC process in Cape Town, the racing-boat monostructure build, our OEM partnerships, and the seven-days-a-week owner support that backs it all up. A faster boat spends less time exposed to weather, and a stronger, stiffer, quieter boat is one you can trust when you are a long way from land. Here is how we build for both. Step aboard KUMA, a highly updated 2002 Oyster 53 designed by Robert Humphreys and built by Oyster Yachts in England. Hull number 19, KUMA represents one of Oyster’s most respected modern bluewater cruising designs: substantial enough for real ocean passages, refined enough for comfortable liveaboard life, and built with the structural integrity and offshore confidence that made Oyster a benchmark name among serious sailors. KUMA is not just a pedigree yacht; she is a proven passagemaker. Under her current ownership, she joined the World ARC in Indonesia and completed more than 25,000 offshore miles, including 16,000 miles in a single year. Her owners report routine 180-200+ mile days and describe her as composed, safe, and comfortable even in serious offshore conditions. Her recent upgrade profile is exceptional. KUMA features a complete 2024 Victron lithium electrical system, an 8,000 W Victron Quattro inverter/charger, all-new Raymarine Axiom navigation electronics, Raymarine Quantum 2 Doppler radar, EV-400 autopilot, AIS650, Starlink Mini, PredictWind DataHub, Iridium GO! exec, Inmarsat SatPhone 2, Peplink/Pepwave mobile data system, and ICOM-M802 SSB. She also benefits from replaced teak decks, replaced standing rigging, updated sails, new hatches and portlights, updated air conditioning, refreshed refrigeration, a drivetrain refit, and extensive cruising gear and spares. Below deck, KUMA delivers the atmosphere Oyster buyers expect: cherry joinery, raised saloon, proper offshore navigation station, functional galley, four cabins, two heads, and a flexible crew/workshop cabin with engine-room access. The aft owner’s stateroom provides the privacy of a true center-cockpit cruising layout, while the forward guest cabins and workshop space make her well suited for extended voyaging, liveaboard cruising, or another World ARC adventure. For buyers considering the Caribbean, Atlantic, Pacific, World ARC, or long-term independent cruising, KUMA offers a rare combination of Oyster pedigree, real offshore history, major recent investment, and current bluewater systems. Rounding Cape Hatteras at Night - Fast Sailing Through the Graveyard of the Atlantic in 25+knts wind
I sailed overnight from Morehead City, North Carolina, to Norfolk, Virginia - rounding Cape Hatteras from the ocean side for the first time. The forecast promised strong southerly winds, and Mirage was flying at 8–9 knots even with both sails reefed. I rounded Cape Hatteras in darkness, passed Diamond Shoals, encountered waves as high as four meters, and continued north toward Chesapeake Bay. After an incredible downwind sail, the wind finally disappeared just 30 miles from the entrance, forcing me to start the engine. The journey ended with a midnight arrival in busy Norfolk Harbor - and frost covering the windshield! :) Rounding Cape Hatteras, the legendary “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” was a long-held dream. This was one of the fastest and most memorable overnight passages of my voyage north.
