After months in the jungle boatyard of Guatemala—sweating through fiberglass work and grinding dust to get Saoirse back in the water—we were craving open ocean again. So when our friends asked if we’d deliver their sailboat from Roatan to Texas, we jumped at the chance. We traveled 1.25 days by shuttle, ferry, and overnight Airbnb just to get here… and now the adventure begins. But before we can hoist a single sail, we have to learn a brand new boat. When we hauled out nearly a year ago, we had no plans to touch the mast—let alone mess with the rigging. But in the cruising life, plans are written in the sand at low tide. In this episode, we dive into one of the biggest projects yet: dropping the mast, tackling the rigging, and trying (and struggling) to install a new wire conduit.
