The "Pacific Solo" journey has concluded, making way for an exciting new chapter: The Longevity Project with the Never Too Late Academy. I will feature field notes on this channel now called Japan Solo. I'll continue traveling to explore healthy aging and research behaviors and mindsets in longevity hotspots. This channel will keep documenting the journey, focusing on successful aging and how to age well. Coming up next. A day on the water with a 91-year-old! I’m Lowell Sheppard, 71 — sailor, author, and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Founder of the Never Too Late Academy and Senior Adviser to the International Academic Forum. After seven years of Pacific Solo, I’m continuing the journey across Japan — exploring longevity, community, and what it means to live well over time. → https://nevertoolateacademy.com #LongevityProject #JapanSolo #Longevity #NewChapter #FieldNotes
Salty Podcast #92 is an update to Salty Podcast #88 (link below) with Curt Ahlemeier of Sailing Jeep. I caught up with Curt on Stocking Island, where we sat down overlooking the ocean on the West Side of the island. After an incredible surf season here in the stunning islands of Bocas del Toro, we’re soaking up every last wave, sunset, and family moment before shifting gears into full-on boat project mode. Living aboard full-time as a family of seven means embracing every season—and this one has been unforgettable. From uncrowded beaches and warm Caribbean waters to exploring hidden corners of this tropical archipelago, we’re making the most of these final days of freedom before the tools come out and the real work begins. Join us as we 🌊 Catch the last swells of the season 🏝️ Explore remote beaches and islands👨👩👧👦 Slow down and enjoy intentional family time ⚓ Prepare mentally (and emotionally!) for upcoming boat projects Life aboard isn’t always work—and this episode is all about why we chose this lifestyle in the first place. If you love sailing, surfing, off-grid living, and real family adventure… you’re in the right place. 👉 Don’t forget to subscribe and follow along as we head into our next chapter!
This is a really cool old boat that has been lovingly taken care of it’s whole life. This boat has had a new transom, motor mounts and stringers in 2015 or so, and also had a new leg around the same time. The motor block was replaced in the early 90s and there’s roughly 1200 hours on the Mercruiser 288 5.0L V8 motor currently. Grew boats were made in Canada! This will give you all the retro boating vives you could want. I feel like you can truly relax out there without any modern amenities to take your mind away from being on the water in peace. There’s a large teak swim platform with a 3 step fold out boarding ladder. The covers are in good shape and the upholstery has also been updated. There has been a trim tab system installed as well which adds to the already premium ride quality of the deep V hull. This boat has been run up by our shop and lake tested and works well. Comes on a 2004 tandem axle trailer with surge brakes and swing tongue. Moorage space at Shuswap Marina is still available for the 2026 season! Drop by @shuswapmarina today to check it out! This is a consignment sale, no trades, thanks! Contact Gareth @ 250.675.2250 ext 6 or gareth@shuswapmarina.com
▶️ Watch⛵Our Family Sailing Story (📺Full Series) here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQknaPbK41cMLb1zRdjglmvh8FM7BCDAF In this episode, we’re docked in the vibrant capital of San Sebastián, La Gomera—a historic harbor town set along the island’s rugged southeastern coast. This was the final stop of Christopher Columbus before his legendary voyage to the Americas. This time, we leave the marina behind and explore the quieter north side of the harbor. From the beach and its unique rock viewpoint towers, we wander through cozy streets and up into the hillside neighborhoods. Along the way, we discover the beautiful Parador Hotel, perched above the harbor with lush gardens and classic Canarian architecture—white-washed walls, dark wooden balconies, and peaceful courtyards. As we climb higher, the town reveals its charm—colorful houses, weathered stone walls, and ever-expanding ocean views. Eventually, we reach a scenic lighthouse viewpoint overlooking the Atlantic. And for the first time, Eivind joins some new friends for a spearfishing adventure… will he bring home dinner, or just a good story? 👉 In the next episode: We hike to stunning viewpoints above the southern side of the bay, where a surprising anchorage spot catches our eye and inspires us to head back out on anchor. Then we travel to Agulo—a picture-perfect village known for its cobbled streets, banana plantations, and storybook charm. Our goal? Reaching a famous glass lookout with breathtaking views toward Mount Teide… if we’re allowed access. 💙 The Sailing ELANE Crew 👨👩👦👦: Liv, Eivind, Aksel, Niko & Espen @SVEnfantTerrible ________________________________________ ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 🌍 Welcome to San Sebastián, La Gomera 0:32 ⚓ Docked in a historic harbor (Columbus’ last stop) 1:05 🚶 Exploring beyond the marina 1:45 🏖️ Beach walk & unique rock viewpoint towers 2:30 🏘️ Wandering colorful hillside neighborhoods 3:40 🌿 Discovering the Parador above the harbor 4:40 🎨 Colors, textures & character of the town 5:30 🌊 Lighthouse viewpoint & ocean views 6:30 🤿 Spearfishing adventure begins 8:10 🎣 Will we catch dinner? 9:00 🔜 What’s coming next (viewpoints, anchorage & Agulo) ________________________________________ CREDITS: CapCut Desktop Epidemic Sound BrandCrowd Photos: Pinterest WestEnd 61 MARIA TRIANTAFILLOY trivago EscapadaRural Visitarlasislascanarias Fotopaises ________________________________________ #SailingELANE #LaGomera #SanSebastianLaGomera #CanaryIslands #SailingLife #Liveaboard #TravelVlog #HiddenGems #IslandLife #Spearfishing #OceanView #VanLifeAtSea #SlowTravel #AdventureCouple #SailingYouTube #EuropeTravel #BoatLife #ExploreMore #Agulo #MountTeide

New York winters are brutal for boat dwellers. Freezing temps, ice, and persistent dampness. Proper insulation, ventilation, and safe heating are critical to avoid mold and fire hazards. #BoatLife #WinterLiving #NewYorkBoating #ColdWeather
This is a really nice, low hours pontoon boat. 157 hours on the Yamaha VMAX 150hp SHO outboard. Triple pontoon with a full length center toon with lifting strakes gives this boat great performance. There’s a Fusion Marine bluetooth stereo and a Garmin GPS chart plotter fishfinder that also serves as your engine management system. Bimini top and cockpit cover are in great shape, and also comes with a winter cover that has had 1 season of use. There’s an 8’ dock bumper and a host of fenders and lines etc that come with the boat. Seaweave floor is cool on your feet and easy to keep clean. Always professionally serviced. Summerized, ready to go, and all cleaned up ready for the water! Comes on the tandem axle trailer with surge brakes and swing tongue. Moorage space at Shuswap Marina is still available for the 2026 season! Drop by @shuswapmarina today to check it out! This is a consignment sale, no trades, thanks! A forecasted gale obliges me to put in to Put-in-Creek, on the East River of Mobjack Bay. It is still too early to head south, and October is a great month for cruising the Chesapeake, so the choice is clear. Owing to light winds I don't make Jackson Creek until just after dark. A tricky entrance to negotiate in the daytime--and which requires a fair wind if under sail--at night is quite the adrenaline rush. Day 5. Back to working on the engine. I was trying to charge the batteries during the night when something went wrong. Looking back, I had let them get too low before charging, so that part is on me. Still… not exactly what you want to be dealing with. And of course, it happened in the middle of the night. I managed to fix it for the moment and get some charge back into the batteries, enough to get through the night and deal with it properly in daylight. The next day, another issue showed up. But this time, I was working on it in daylight for a change, which already made everything feel a lot more manageable. With some help from my very good (and very patient) online community, I worked through it step by step. And now… everything is charging properly again. Back on track. Hopefully it stays that way so I can keep the livestream running without interruptions. I’m also starting to feel better physically, which is a big relief. Not fully there yet, but definitely improving. And through all of this, the sailing has actually been kind to us. Comfortable conditions, steady movement, nothing too demanding. So overall, a bit of a technical day… but a good outcome in the end. 🌊 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. Episode 474 : The Hard Push North Hello Friends, It was finally time to try and make my way to a boatyard to build Triteia's new rudder and unexpectedly repower the boat after the success of the GoFund Me Campaign that Victoria oversaw. I will never be able to thank everyone enough for the unbelievable kindness and support. The campaign looked to raise $6500 for a new long shaft outboard, a new dinghy and funds to help with the rudder build. Fans and followers of the channel contributed $59,500 dollars in 20 days before we end the campaign. And while now I had the funds to properly prepare Triteia for the rest of the circumnavigation, I still needed to get to the boatyard without a working engine 😬 If you enjoy the channel please "Like" the videos and Subscribe so you don't miss any future episodes. If you’re researching the Lagoon 450 bulkhead issue, wondering about Lagoon 450 structural problems, or asking “do Lagoon 450s break in half?” — this video breaks down everything you need to know. We cover forward bulkhead deformation on Lagoon catamarans, how common the issue actually is, which years of Lagoon 450 are affected, what Lagoon Catamarans officially said about the problem, and whether a used Lagoon 450 is still a safe boat to buy. If you’re shopping for a used catamaran, comparing Lagoon 450 vs other cruising catamarans, or trying to understand catamaran structural integrity and bulkhead failures, this is the full story. The Lagoon 450 is one of the most popular cruising catamarans ever built, with over a thousand produced and widely used in both private ownership and charter fleets. But in recent years, reports of forward bulkhead deformation sparked major debate across the sailing community. In this video, we separate fact from internet myth, using manufacturer statements, documented inspections, and real-world context to explain what’s actually going on. We also dive into what causes the issue, how to identify warning signs, what repairs and reinforcements are available, and whether properly inspected boats are still a smart buy. Whether you’re planning to live aboard, charter, or cruise offshore, understanding the realities behind the Lagoon 450 controversy could save you from making an expensive mistake—or help you confidently buy a great boat at the right price. Forecasts didn’t agree… and the ECMWF model ended up about 10 knots light compared to what we actually saw on the way north to Cape Hatteras. Looking back, we would’ve played it differently—getting out of the Gulf Stream much earlier and hugging the shoreline to cut down the fetch. But it’s hard to give up that push when you’re watching the miles tick by. We did reef early—and then again—but in hindsight, a third reef would’ve been the right call. One thing that worked surprisingly well: firing up the engines—not for speed, but for control. Keeping the bows from rounding up into the waves made a huge difference and dramatically reduced the pounding on the port side. Sometimes you get it right… sometimes you learn the hard way. #Sailing #CapeHatteras #GulfStream #HeavyWeather #Catamaran #OffshoreSailing

► Two years ago, we discovered the Makai 37 in Croatia, designed by the Italian naval architects Eryd Yacht Design. The Z-shaped aft structure of the coachroof/bimini is unmistakably the signature of this young brand, which has already announced a second model, the Makai 42. In the meantime, Makai has added a touch of sportiness to its 37 in the GTS version, which is fitted with a central foil - a blade between the hulls connecting one to the other. ► Hull #5 includes this feature, and we got the chance to take it out for a test run in Aigio, Greece. It is powered by a pair of V8 Yanmar engines, each producing 370 HP, coupled to Q-SPD (Q-Marine Surface Piercing Drive) drive units with semi-submerged propellers. This configuration, with the same engine power, delivers a spectacular performance boost, as the top speed increases, according to our measurements, from 30 to 42.6 knots! The same applies to fuel consumption, which decreases by 30 to 50% at the same engine speed (starting at 3,000 rpm). In practical terms, the foil’s effect is noticeable at speeds from 20 knots, with an ideal operating range at 30 knots - a particularly high cruising speed. ► Check out the full test report in an upcoming issue of Multihulls World. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Makai Designer: Eryd Yachts Design Length: 37’5” (11.4 m) Waterline length: 30’10” (9.4 m) Beam: 15’1” (4.6 m) Draft with raised legs: 2’2” (0.66 m)’ Draft underway: 3’7” (1.1 m) Displacement: 21,400 lbs (9.7 t) Motors: 2 x 320 or 370 HP Fuel capacity: 2 x 118 US gal (2 x 450 L) Cruising speed: 30 knots Max speed: 42.6 knots Price: €839,000 ex-tax ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/sqJxHm0D5MY Today we're kicking off a project that our tiny Captain has been eagerly awaiting since we first explained to her that we were going to build a new boat. At first glance it appeared to be pretty straight forward, but once we started diving into it and saw just how many options and considerations there are, we quickly realized that this (like most things in boat building) was not as simple as it seemed. But also like most things in boat building, you just have to take things one step at a time and answer each question at it comes, and that's exactly what we're up to in this week's episode! We also say goodbye to Conor in this week's episode, and we absolutely HAVE to give him a proper shout out and soooo much love for all his help during these three weeks...and of course to Dan and the guys, Bill, all you guys watching right now for making this not only possible, but SO freaking fun and rewarding!
