Mit unserer Topaz Magno geht’s noch einmal raus in die Kieler Bucht – direkt vor dem Olympiahafen Kiel-Schilksee. Bei 4 Beaufort und ablandigem Wind erleben wir ein richtig agiles kleines Sportboot. Die Magno ist mit nur ca. 3,94 m Länge, 1,56 m Breite und rund 95 kg Rumpfgewicht ein echtes Leichtgewicht. Das Großsegel ca. 8 m², die Fock rund 2 m² und der Gennaker ca. 10–11 m² machen die Jolle perfekt, um das Gennaker-Segeln zu üben – aber eben auch ziemlich kippelig. Das spüren wir sofort: die ersten Kenterungen lassen nicht lange auf sich warten. Insgesamt werden es 6 Kenterungen – jedes Mal schnell aufrichten, Wasser rausfahren und weiter geht’s. Genau das macht den Reiz aus: wenig Trägheit, direktes Lenkverhalten und jede kleine Gewichtsverlagerung spürt man sofort. Wenn die Magno ins Gleiten kommt, spielt die klassische Rumpfgeschwindigkeit von ca. 9 km/h keine Rolle mehr – mit Gennaker und genug Wind kommen wir zeitweise auf 16 km/h und mehr. Für Einsteiger ist die Magno aufgrund ihrer Stabilität beim Aufrichten perfekt zum Lernen geeignet – aber man muss aktiv segeln und Gewicht trimmen! Wir segeln Höhe, üben Wenden, fahren lange Schläge und probieren Manöver im Trapez. Dabei wechseln wir Rollen: mal steuert einer nur mit der Pinne, mal bedienen wir Großsegel und Fock gemeinsam. I wanted to share a quick video on the current state of the catamaran market and how those trends compare to the year before. 2025 was definitely a VERY interesting year, and we definitely saw pricing coming down for buyers. It will be interesting to see how the trend continues into 2026. I suspect we'll see a modest increase in sales price, a reduction in time on market, and less inventory. From the conversations I've had with buyers who have contracted boats in the last 30-45 days, we're definitely seeing a more positive buying mood due to interest rates coming down, and the US stock markets at all-time highs. Only time will tell. In this episode, we finally replace our Spade anchor with a brand-new setup, visiting the excellent chandleries in Canet-en-Roussillon to get Helios ready for the next stage of our journey. Being back in Canet is surprisingly emotional. This is where we first laid eyes on Helios and where our sailing adventure began. Three years later, after more than 6,000 nautical miles sailing around the Mediterranean, it’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and the incredible friends we’ve made along the way. Along with the new anchor, we also picked up a Grippy Anchor Buoy to improve visibility when we’re at anchor — something we’ve been meaning to do for a long time. With bad weather forecast, we decided to wait one more day before heading south into Spain. When the window opens, we enjoy a beautiful sail to Roses, where we finally put our new anchor and buoy to the test. A practical upgrade, a bit of nostalgia, and another memorable sail aboard Helios. Paddleboarding past limestone caves and coral heads in water so clear every fish shows up. Then a sweet nurse shark circles the boat looking for attention, before we climb the mast for the new radar dome and fire up the chart plotter to see if it works. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel I take out my paddleboard to explore the caves and stunning features of the limestone shoreline at Big Majors in the Exumas. The crystal-clear water reveals vibrant coral and schools of fish gliding below.
