Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 35 France to Fiji in about 24 hours, one of the longest, most exhausting hauls we've done on this trip. After two unforgettable weeks with family in the Jura region, it was time to say goodbye and head back to our boat and our life on the water. Landing back in Fiji came with the warmest welcome, a full chorus of "Bula" right at the airport. From there it was straight back into liveaboard life: working off all that French cheese and wine, tackling a long list of boat projects, and getting VA ready to sail again. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 353 After three days sailing back from Fulaga, we finally arrived at the marina in Nadi, Fiji. But getting back to the mainland wasn't just about the boat, it was part of a plan we've been hinting at for a couple of episodes now. Before we could take off, there were a few boat jobs to knock out first, the usual list that comes with leaving her behind for a while. Once that was done, we packed our bags and headed to the airport. We flew halfway around the world, from Fiji to France, to surprise my dad and sister and the rest of my French family, who we haven't seen in years. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 351 After the calmest sailing conditions we've had in ages, this episode flips the script completely. Big seas, building tradewinds, and one of our fastest speeds yet, 13 knots, on our way back toward Viti Levu, Fiji's mainland. Just before dark, dolphins showed up to ride our bow at sunset as we ducked into a protected anchorage for the night. The next morning, jet skiers reminded us we were back in civilization after a month of near-total isolation. We spend the morning underwater exploring Fulaga's famous pass on an incoming tide — one of the best snorkels in the South Pacific. The afternoon brings something a little less glamorous. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 346 We endured five months of Fiji's cyclone season. We sailed 300 miles of open ocean to get here. Fulaga. Honestly, worth every single day of the wait. Fulaga is part of Fiji's remote Lau Island group and one of the least visited cruising destinations in the entire South Pacific. No resorts, no roads, no tourism — just limestone formations rising out of turquoise water, hidden beaches, pristine coral, and some of the warmest people we have ever met anywhere in the world. We arrived as the fourth boat of the year. It felt pretty special. First thing on the list, sevusevu. The traditional Fijian welcome ceremony where you present kava root to the village chief before you're free to explore. In seven years of sailing and every country we've visited, nothing like this exists anywhere else. It's not just a tradition, it's a genuine invitation to connect with the place you've sailed to. We start exploring the lagoon and every corner we turn, there is another stunning pristine spot. Limestone cliffs, hidden beaches that disappear when the tide comes in, and water so clear it doesn't look real. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 345 The cyclone is behind us. The wind is in our favour. And for the first time in what feels like forever — we are sailing exactly where we want to go. This episode is the passage. Three days offshore from Vuda Marina in Nadi, 300 miles downwind to the Lau Islands, Fiji's most remote and least visited island group. The conditions are almost unreal — downwind sailing against what are typically the prevailing trade winds, with the tail end of Cyclone Vaianu pushing us exactly where we need to be. Sometimes the ocean just delivers. The fish we caught in the first hours of the last passage? It became a tuna poke bowl, made from scratch on passage and eaten on the top deck in perfect sailing conditions. If you're going to be 300 miles offshore — that's the way to do it. And at the end of it all — we arrive somewhere that genuinely stopped us in our tracks. Seven years of sailing. Some of the most beautiful places on earth. We're not going to spoil it. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 344 Cyclone Vaianu has passed. The lines are off the dock. And after weeks of waiting — we are finally underway. We're leaving Vuda Marina in Nadi and pointing VA east. 300 miles to the Lau Islands, Fiji's most remote island group. We've been trying to get here for weeks. A cyclone had other ideas. But today the wind is blowing the right direction for the first time in a long time — the tail end of the same storm that kept us pinned down — and we are not wasting it. Getting out past the barrier reef is the first test. The seas are sloppy, leftover swell from the cyclone mixing with fresh wind chop — it's not comfortable, but we've got sails up and we're moving. And within the first few miles of open ocean, the fishing rod goes off. Fresh tuna. Day one. We'll take it. This episode is the departure — the relief, the rough first hours, and the start of what we hope is one of the most remote and rewarding sails of our seven years out here. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 343 We were in Vuda Marina, Fiji, wrapping up boat projects and preparing to sail to the Lau island group when we got the news: a cyclone had formed nearby. Within 48 hours, we went from resupply mode to cyclone preparation mode. We secured the boat, reinforced dock lines, prepared for heavy wind and rain, and made the call to ride it out tied to the dock at Port Denarau Marina instead of at anchor. This is our first cyclone. And this episode shows the whole experience—the preparation, the intensity of the storm, the waiting, and the aftermath. About the Storm: The cyclone formed near Fiji with little warning. Wind speeds ramped up quickly, bringing heavy rain and sustained gusts. Being in the marina meant we had the support of professional staff, reinforced dock systems, and the ability to monitor conditions closely. The footage shows how intense the storm was. But honestly? We felt it way differently than we would have if we were out at anchor. And that's because of the Vuda Marina staff. They worked tirelessly during the storm—checking on every boat, adjusting lines, helping secure vessels, and staying proactive throughout. EPISODE 342 After nearly a month exploring the remote Yasawa Islands—anchored in secluded spots, living off-grid, limited access to supplies—we're pulling into Port Denarau Marina on Fiji's main island, Viti Levu. This is our first fuel stop in nine months, our first real resupply run, and our first chance to tackle the boat project list with access to a well-stocked yacht chandlery, restaurants, laundry facilities, and all the amenities we've been without. This isn't a "how-to" on efficient sailing—it's a glimpse into what marina life looks like after extended remote cruising. We're fueling up, restocking provisions, fixing fishing rods, upgrading boat systems (including improvements to the Cook Hook we built in Australia), doing laundry, and yes—enjoying the luxury of eating food we didn't cook ourselves. About Port Denarau Marina: Port Denarau is Fiji's main cruising hub and the gateway for sailors arriving or departing the country. We're running low on provisions, we've explored the majority of the island group here, and it's time to sail back to Viti Levu—Fiji's main island—to resupply and prepare for what's next. But before we leave, we're taking one last dinghy ride to a secluded beach we spotted from the boat. No one around, completely untouched—just us, a hammock, a book, and a few hours of peace before we transition back to civilization. This episode is different. EPISODE 338 I'm Warren, this is Erica, and over the last seven years we've slowly been working on a circumnavigation that we promised family would only take two. Lately we find ourselves in Fiji, and we chose to do something very few other cruisers do—we chose to sit out cyclone season on our boat. In the water. Sailing around. It's not difficult showing the beauty of all these amazing places our unique life lets us experience. But what is difficult sometimes is showing the realities of this lifestyle at the same time. Like this: four days stuck on the boat after last week's cyclone. The storm passed, but the weather system behind it is still here. Rain, grey skies, nowhere to go. We can't dive, can't explore, can't get off the boat. Just us, waiting for the weather to clear. So what do we do? We find projects. We bake cookies. We fix a leaky galley faucet. And we work—because this is our full-time job. We're YouTubers. Making these videos is how we support our adventures and keep this lifestyle going. And rainy days? That's when we're actually most productive. No distractions, no snorkeling breaks, no exploring. Just us, the boat, and the editing timeline. This episode pulls back the curtain a bit. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 337 Seven years. Over 30,000 nautical miles. We've sailed to some incredible places, and Fiji is definitely one of them. Our days have a rhythm: sail, anchor, explore, maintain the boat, edit. The flow is pretty much the same. But somehow, every single day out here is different. This week started peacefully—sailing north through Fiji's Yasawa Islands, fishing, watching thousands of flying foxes fill the sky at sunset. Then the weather turned. A cyclone had formed about 300 kilometers south of Fiji's main island, Viti Levu. We weren't in its direct path, but we were experiencing the outer bands—heavy rain and wind feeding the storm south of us. The forecast had been tracking it for days, and we positioned ourselves in a protected bay, anchored for the predicted wind direction. Except we got it wrong. The wind wasn't coming from the North like predicted—it was hitting us from the west. And that put us dangerously close to shore with not enough room if our anchor dragged. For hours, the wind kept building instead of calming. The longer we stayed, the more uncomfortable we felt. We had to make the call: pull anchor and reposition in the middle of heavy weather. This episode shows both sides of cruising during cyclone season—the peaceful rhythm and the intense moments when the forecast doesn't cooperate and you have to adapt fast. This is why we're one of the few boats still out here right now. You have to be prepared, stay alert, and trust your instincts even when the models say something different. After seven years of this life, we've learned to expect the unexpected. The rhythm stays the same, but the days never do. ⚠️ CYCLONE SEASON SAILING: We're sailing Fiji during cyclone season (November-April) when most cruisers have left. We stay vigilant, watch forecasts closely, position ourselves in protected bays, and are always ready to move if conditions change.
