TrawlerFest Anacortes 2026 was held at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes, Washington, bringing together trawler owners, future cruisers, industry professionals, and some of the most recognizable names in the trawler community. Anacortes has long been one of our favorite boating destinations. If you're interested in trawlers, there may be no better place to spend a few days walking the docks, touring boats, attending seminars, and connecting with people who share a passion for cruising. This year's event was especially memorable for JMYS because it marked the first TrawlerFest attended by our newest broker, Max Merrill. Max joined Jeff throughout the show and made his first appearance in a JMYS Dock Walk and Talk video. ► Friday, May 22. Arrival in Martinique. ► The last few days at sea have had a strange flavor. We know we’re getting close, yet everything seems to take longer. The wind has almost completely deserted us, so we’ve been motoring for the past three days, eager to finally catch sight of land. On board, we’ve had to get a little creative. There is still plenty of food left, but the “treat” supplies disappear quickly. With just a single egg, I still managed to make crêpes twice, and even a birthday cake in a saucepan for Jean-Luc! I had also hidden away a chocolate bar to save for the final days in case we ran out. I think it made a few people happy... ► Before entering Le Marin marina, everyone tidies themselves up, taking improvised showers from the boat’s transoms. Getting rid of that invisible layer of salt on your skin feels absolutely wonderful! Of course, that is precisely when a squall hits us while we’re lowering the mainsail. Suddenly, visibility drops to almost nothing. Dad handles it as he always does, on familiar ground here, at home. Then we spot the dock where we’re expected, the faces waiting on the quay - my mother, our friends. Winter on the Dutch waterways has its own kind of magic. In this episode we wander through the historic streets of Middelburg, then slip back into the quiet lake and canal system where the world feels still and the traffic disappears. There is no one around. It’s winter and everything is calm on the water. This is a bit of a full-circle moment for me. A few years back, I fell out of a tree and ended up stepping away from everything I was building online. ( besides instagram) What started as a simple accident turned into a long pause, a lot of recovery, and a complete change of direction. I stopped making videos, stopped uploading to YouTube, and quietly went off to figure life out in a very different way. Instead of forcing things, I travelled. I moved through different places, met new people, and spent a lot of time just learning new aspects of myself. Was für ein Ritt auf der Kieler Förde! Im Juni 2026 ging es für uns zur jährlichen Bay2Bay-Regatta der Strander Katamaransegler e.V. in Kiel-Schilksee. Die Bedingungen waren spektakulär – aber definitiv nichts für schwache Nerven: 6 Beaufort ablandiger Wind, flaches Wasser und damit perfekte Voraussetzungen für richtig schnelle Fahrten mit dem Strandkatamaran. Wegen des kräftigen Windes wagten sich allerdings nur gut zehn Boote an den Start. Ich war als Gast mit unserer Nacra 570 „Wahoo“ dabei. Mit an Bord: Mein Vorschoter, ein erfahrener Laser-Standard-Segler – allerdings zum allerersten Mal auf einem Katamaran. Nach nur einem Tag Kat-Trapez-Training am Vortag ging es direkt in die Regatta. Die Strecke führte von Kiel-Schilksee um die erste gelbe Kabeltonne in der Kieler Bucht und über den Stollergrund in der Eckernförder Bucht bis zur Untiefentonne bei Surendorf und anschließend wieder zurück nach Strande. Doch schon vor dem Start lief nicht alles nach Plan. Während ich mich um die Kameras kümmerte und filmte, überhörte ich bei der Steuermannbesprechung einen entscheidenden Halbsatz. Das sollte später noch für einige Verwirrung sorgen. Und als wäre das nicht genug, bemerkten wir erst unterwegs, dass wir die Cunningham gar nicht eingehängt hatten und das Großsegel überhaupt nicht richtig durchgesetzt war. Erst nach dem Nachtrimmen wurde die „Wahoo“ wirklich "scharf-geschaltet" – der Geschwindigkeitsunterschied war sofort spürbar. Besonders spannend wurde es an der Wendemarke in der Eckernförder Bucht: Eben noch bei satten 6 Beaufort unterwegs, gerieten wir plötzlich in ein Windloch mit gefühlt nur noch einer Windstärke. Von dort aus ging es anschließend auf einer langen Kreuz zurück Richtung Strande – vorbei an zahlreichen internationalen Teams, die bereits für die Kieler Woche trainierten. Trotz aller kleinen Pannen konnten wir uns am Ende nach Yardstick-Wertung den 🥉 3. Platz sichern – ein Ergebnis, mit dem ich ehrlich gesagt überhaupt nicht gerechnet hatte. This 1962 Danish engine shouldn’t have been built when it was. While the world was building rockets, computers, and modern diesel engines, somebody was still building hot-bulb semi-diesels based on technology invented in the 1800s. Aboard Lady Hawk, I walk through the complete starting procedure of our 90HP Grenaa engine: air start, lubrication, fuel, heating the bulb, tuning, troubleshooting, and finally bringing the old machine to life. The deeper I went, the less it behaved like a normal diesel, and the more it felt like an engine that remembers.
