Hello everybody. After a little hiatus, we are back to producing videos. Season 8 took us from Panama and finished on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia, and Season 9 will take us from Tahiti to Tonga, then Fiji, and all the way to New Zealand. There is a lot of passage making in this upcoming season, and some more great exploring and diving in these wonderful islands that dot the South Pacific. These videos are about six months behind, but we will be catching up with this season. Today, the boat was loaded on a ship in Auckland, New Zealand, headed to Spain for our summer sailing in the Mediterranean. It was bittersweet to finish Season Nine in Auckland and leave the boat and come home. The fourteen months of cruising from Panama to New Zealand was all that we hoped for and more. It's a bit melancholy to have it be over. I know, I know, there will be more adventures ahead, but I don't know if anybody can top crossing that ocean. After spending the last three weeks on the hard – and some big life changes on land – we were more than ready to get back where we belong… on the water. This marks the start of Season 3 of Sailing ARGO as we begin making our way back up the Queensland coastline. We ease back in with a quick overnight stop at St Helena Island (just south of the Brisbane River) before setting off on a 120nm, 21-hour overnight sail toward one of Australia’s most well-known coastal challenges – the Wide Bay Bar. This time, the crossing was a dream compared to the 3m swell we faced on our last attempt. Even better, we got to share the experience alongside our old friend, SV Trim. After the long push, we dropped anchor at Garry’s Anchorage, K’gari, where a couple of calm nights and much-needed sleep reminded us exactly why we love this life. It feels so good to be back. We’re seeing the winds pick up and the rain is now starting as cyclone Vaianu arrives in New Zealand. Lots of our friends sat through this system earlier this week when it passed near Fiji and now it has made a beeline for us on the north island here. We don’t expect the winds to be as strong as they were, but it seems to be covering a much wider area and the whole of North island is on a storm watch, preparing for high winds and flooding. We’re seeing winds get up to 30 knots now and we still have another 5 hours or so until they will reach their strongest. But so far we’re all holding strong and only two things have been blown over!

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. I recently competed in my first ever official triathlon in London, entering the Super Sprint distance. The reason I chose the shorter race was because I’ve been dealing with a knee injury, so my main goal going into the event was simply to complete the race and take it easy on the run section if needed. My plan was to walk the run if the knee started complaining… But something surprising happened. The knee held up, I managed to run the entire run section without stopping, and when the results came in the outcome was far better than I expected. 🏊‍♂️ Swim 🚴‍♂️ Bike 🏃‍♂️ Run Final Result: 🥈 2nd Place Overall – Open Category 🥇 1st Place – Age Group For my first ever triathlon, I was absolutely thrilled with that result. On Father's Day and all my father wanted to do was try his new Flight Board. He's had it for a few months but had not time to use it. We wanted to make sure if the wind picked up, he didn't end up in Waubaushene! Since I have a sweet Highfield Sport 390, I offered to provide rescue support. With 60 horsepower, the Sport 390 will run 40 mph. Plenty to keep up with the Flight Board. Turns out he didn't need it any support! There were plenty of crashes but no one got hurt. Just another amazing day in a Highfield.
