Clemens Stecher kommt gerade von Trainings und Prüfungen in England zurück und hat eine klare Antwort: Du musst segeln können, und zwar so, dass das Boot fast zum verlängerten Arm wird. Die beiden sprechen darüber, warum gerade Manöver auf engem Raum oft Lücken offenlegen, auch bei erfahrenen Seglerinnen und Seglern: unter Segeln an Steg, Boje und Ankerplatz gehen, von dort wieder wegsegeln, beidrehen und beiliegen.  Clemens erklärt zwei Manöver, die viele nicht kennen: Scandalizing, um das Großsegel vor dem Anluven zu entlasten, und Circling, bei dem das Boot mit fixiertem Ruder enge Kreise segelt. Außerdem geht es darum, was Dickschiffsegler von der Jolle lernen können, woran erfahrene Ausbilder und Prüfer schon am Gang über das Deck erkennen, wie vertraut jemand mit dem Boot ist, um den Unterschied zwischen Coastal und Offshore und um Übungen, mit denen sich Lücken vor der Prüfung schließen lassen. Águas abrigadas, mas com corrente de maré forte e muitos baixios: é preciso atenção. No caminho, paramos em Pontal do Paraná e conhecemos o Gerson, que mora há sete anos a bordo de um Mod 40. Na Ilha do Mel, ancoramos longe dos trapiches por causa do calado e fomos de bote até a Praia das Encantadas. De lá, uma trilha curta leva à Gruta das Encantadas, que ganhou esse nome por causa de uma lenda: ali, sereias cantavam e seduziam os pescadores até baterem nas pedras. Difícil sair de lá sem uma sensação meio mística. Depois, de bote até Nova Brasília e mais uma trilha até o Farol das Conchas, construído no século XIX por ordem de Dom Pedro II, com uma estrutura metálica linda e uma vista que vale cada passo. O único porém: faltam bons ancoradouros profundos para ficar mais dias. Neste corte, também falamos sobre o que é morar num barco. As pessoas perguntam sobre o confinamento, mas é um confinamento que leva a lugares assim. Ineke van der Weijden is a professional sailor who is more used to skippering race yachts than being a crew member with no formal position, as has been the case for her aboard the VO 65 SISI Shortly after finishing the race Ineke spoke to us about how their race went, how good it was to have former Clipper Race colleagues as crew and how much she enjoyed not being skipper for a change. Ineke’s story is an inspiring one; she grew up sailing dinghies as a child but only returned to sailing after many years in the corporate world, signing up for the 2017 Clipper Round the World Race. After taking part in the 2019 race she ultimately returned as a Clipper Race skipper aboard Perseverance for the 2023 race, finishing second overall. @RolexMiddleSeaRace_

Can a Sharrow propeller outperform a standard model? We put both to the test on the Detroit River to find out. We conducted a head-to-head boat propeller test using two identical vessels to determine if advanced design features actually translate to real-world gains. With identical engines and loads, we measured performance across the RPM range to provide clear, unbiased performance data for boaters considering an upgrade. Our on-the-water analysis highlights speed differences at 4,000 RPM, where the Sharrow propeller reached 37.3 MPH compared to the 35.8 MPH recorded by the conventional prop.
