We leave the paradise of Maratua and sail south through the Makassar Strait, encountering fierce currents and some surprisingly large rogue waves along the way. Mid-passage, Chris tackles a leak in the watermaker to keep everything running smoothly onboard. Our first stop is the tiny town of Sendana, where the locals warmly welcome us and get us involved in a fun local challenge. Continuing further south to Pamangangang, we capture some stunning drone footage of the islands and crystal-clear waters before finally arriving in the bustling city of Makassar. Once ashore, we hire a couple of tuk tuks to show us around the city, stock up on diesel fuel, fresh fruit and vegetables, and visit one of the most incredible mosques we have ever seen. From remote island life to the energy of a major Indonesian city, this leg of the journey had it all. WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. Following up on last week’s fluke season opener, I decided to head back out on the water—this time jumping aboard the Paramount out of Brielle, NJ. Whether you are a seasoned angler or someone looking to book their first offshore trip, this video gives you an inside look at the full experience. From the early morning views of the Manasquan River to the hardworking crew in action, I’m taking you along to show you exactly what to expect when you step onto a Jersey Shore party boat. It was a busy day on the deck! I managed to bring in three ling, a few sea bass, and even had some excitement with two sharks. While I was flying solo this trip and couldn't catch every hook-set on camera, I made sure to capture the "behind the scenes" of the trip, including the incredible boat scenery and the professional crew and fish-cleaning services provided by the mate, Quint. If you’re looking for a great day on the Atlantic, hit that play button and see why the 'Paramount' is a staple of the Brielle fishing scene! Is This the Smartest 36-Foot Cruiser? I walked the American Tug 362 at the Seattle Boat Show with Kurt Dilworth — co-founder and Vice President of American Tug — and he answered every question buyers actually ask. Not a dealer. Not a broker. The man who built this company. This is the honest conversation the brochure won't give you.The 362 shares its hull with the legendary AT 365 — but adds a second stateroom, a design tradeoff with real implications for the buyer. Kurt walks us through every compartment: the galley, the pilothouse, the engine room access that owners consistently rave about, and his straight answer to the two-stateroom question.Built by hand in La Conner, Washington — 8 to 10 boats per year — the American Tug 362 is one of the most deliberately engineered coastal cruisers on the American market today. 36'6" LOA. Single Volvo Penta D4-320. 16.5 knots top speed. 10-plus knot cruise. 900-nautical-mile range. And 14'4" bridge clearance that makes it Great Loop legal. If you're cross-shopping the AT 362 against the AT 365 — or weighing American Tug against Nordic Tug — this is the conversation you need to hear directly from the source. The usual late fall offshore passage scenario. You depart the US east coast on the tail of a cold front, which supplies you with favorable northerly winds. But there's always another front moving through in a few days' time. The typical strategy is to sail south as fast as you can, by which you hope to avoid the worst of it. That's the hope. It's a race against the weather clock. Since you’re leaning into the "Sailing Truth Show" angle, the description needs to feel less like a "vlog" and more like a masterclass. You want to hook the casual viewer who is afraid of getting sick, while establishing yourself as the authority who has written the book on the subject. Here is a high-conversion description for the livestream: Ever Been Seasick? Here's how to fight it... | Sailing Truth Show Most people think seasickness is a stomach problem. It’s not. It’s a full-scale biological conflict between your brain and your environment. In today’s episode of the Sailing Truth Show, we’re stripping away the "sundowners and bikinis" version of sailing to talk about the gritty reality of what the sea does to the human body. Whether you’re a veteran skipper or a dreamer planning your first passage, understanding the physiological "Danger Zone" of the first 72 hours is the difference between a successful voyage and a total crew breakdown. In this stream, we’re covering: Sensory Conflict Theory: The real reason your brain thinks you've been poisoned. The Zombie Phase: Why Day 2 is the most dangerous time for decision-making (and how to survive it). The Emergency Reset: A step-by-step walkthrough of the "Physiological Sigh"—the fastest way to kill panic and regain focus offshore. Fueling the Beast: Why I rely on Radix Nutrition to keep my cognitive levels high when the world is upside down. The "Sea Legs" Miracle: What actually happens to your brain on Day 3. Get the Field Manual: Everything discussed today—including the seasickness med charts and the S.A.F.E. checklist—is pulled directly from my book, Be The Captain. 👉 Grab your copy here: https://bethecaptain.com/ Special Thanks: Shoutout to Radix Nutrition for fueling the boat. When you're in the "Zombie Phase," nutrient density is your best friend. This Lagoon 42 served as the Catamaran Gurus sailing school vessel for several years before going through a comprehensive 2025 refit. In this walkthrough, Steele Greyling covers the full 4-cabin layout, the deck upgrades, the helm and electronics, and the interior changes that bring the boat up to current cruising standards. The Lagoon 42 is offered in two main layouts: the 4-cabin charter version (shown here) and the 3-cabin owner's version. The 4-cabin offers two heads per side (one wet, one dry per hull), making it well-suited for families, charter use, or owners who want extra storage and guest capacity. The 3-cabin version trades one cabin for a larger owner's suite. This walkthrough focuses on the 4-cabin layout. Interested in learning? In this Cape Dory Refit Part 7, we modify the galley to better suit a minimalist, off-grid setup. In a previous video we covered the conversion from bulky propane stove and oven to Origo alcohol stove. Now we’re removing the original built-in ice box and drawers to create a custom locker to house a removable portable fridge/freezer and a dedicated 12V battery supply, providing better efficiency and more versatile storage. A portable fridge/freezer keeps it compact, affordable, and easily replaceable rather than trying to maintain a built-in unit. Day 27 of 75 Hard and today is all about discipline over motivation. Friends arrived onboard last night which means routines change a little, schedules get busier, and time becomes tighter — but the challenge still continues. This morning started with a steady 48 minute bike ride covering 13.5km, followed by the usual healthy meals, water intake, reading, and the second workout later in the day. In this episode I talk about: 🚴♂️ Training through minor aches and fatigue 💧 Staying consistent with the daily habits 📚 Continuing the reading progress 👥 Adapting the challenge while friends are visiting 🔥 Why discipline matters more than motivation One of the biggest lessons from 75 Hard so far is that life never stays perfectly organised. Real progress happens when routines change and you still keep showing up anyway. Leaving Cartagena: Overnight Sail to Formentera + First Test of Morpheis Smart Anchor Buoy! - S04E06
In this episode, we finally cast off from Cartagena and set sail on an overnight passage to Formentera! The wind and sailing conditions were excellent, but Jude wasn’t feeling her best, so our early morning arrival was a huge relief. Once anchored, we deployed our brand-new smart GPS Anchor Buoy Morpheis for the very first time. With unsettled weather moving in and several days of rough conditions forecast, having Morpheis on anchor watch gave us real peace of mind. Welcome to our latest #CruisingConversation with Evan and Karly aka Navigating Nietzels. What happens when high school sweethearts from the middle of America, decide to enjoy some boating adventures and film their story while working from their trawler? It’s all here on their YouTube channel, Navigating Nietzels – Here is a link so you can subscribe and follow along. https://www.youtube.com/@navigatingnietzels One message that kept coming through it is their theme, “Don’t wait for someday…” They are floating proof that if you have the desire, you can find an affordable trawler and set it up for taking on the Great Loop. They have enjoyed thirteen months of cruising and working, guided by their enthusiasm, optimism and their loveable dog, Ripley. This video originated when Jeff attended the May 2025 AGLCA (America’s Great Loop Cruising Association) event in Norfolk, VA aboard the Ocean Alexander Classicco 50 Lightning to learn more about trawlers doing the Loop (and in the hopes of finding a buyer for Lightning). JMYS encourages everyone thinking about doing the Loop to join AGLCA and attend their events – they are first class. The owner of Lightning asked Jeff if he was following Evan and Karly’s channel, Navigating Nietzels. The conversation started something like, “You’ve got to meet the Nietzels; they also have a YouTube Channel”. Why not? After a brief introduction on the docks—they were a couple of slips over from Lightning—we agreed to meet the next morning aboard Northern Latitude for an impromptu interview. With no preconceived notions or background, it was a fresh conversation with a younger couple just beginning their trawler lifestyle journey. We set up our video cameras, sat in their saloon and enjoyed an unscripted, general conversation about their background and their early days starting the Great Loop. What a treat! Evan and Karly are personable, thoughtful and just great people to hang out with. I was impressed with their energy and enjoyed hearing about their story that others had already been watching online. There is so much good stuff on YouTube, it is always rewarding to discover an interesting new channel. The Norfolk AGLCA event ended, the film footage that was recorded became a back burner project for all of us, and ultimately the interview was never composed into a video. Fast forward to Fort Lauderdale TrawlerFest in February 2026 when we met up again and lamented that we never found time to produce that video from our first meeting. By this time, Evan and Karly were less than 100 miles from finishing the Great Loop and the ultimate Looper accomplishment, crossing their wake. Like many others who subscribe and watch their episodes I felt I knew them pretty well from the content they shared. We talked about shooting a new film and splicing the original in between. Trawlerfest had just wrapped up for the day and our friends at Selene Yachts Americas let us set up in the pilothouse of the gorgeous Selene 60 Classic, Kaimana. We turned on the cameras and set out to finish what we started – catching up on their Loop lessons and talking about their future, which seems to be a planned continuation to work while aboard, sharing their lives with an ever-expanding audience of YouTube subscribers. I hope you enjoy this episode. Be sure to subscribe to the Navigating Nietzels YouTube channel to follow their latest travels. You’ll also have opportunities to meet Evan and Karly at Trawlerfest—they’re speaking in Anacortes in May 2026 and will likely appear again in Baltimore in September. If you attend, be sure to say hello. With the Loop complete, what lies ahead? They are preparing to sell their current boat and transition into another trawler, with several intriguing projects and new possibilities already taking shape. Thank you for watching, don’t forget to subscribe to their channel and if you have any questions or would like more information about trawlers, please call or text Jeff using +1 949.355.4950 or send him an email to Jeff@JMYS.com. #boats #boating #yachts #jmys #trawler #NavigatingNietzels #CruisingConversations Please subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/JeffMerrillYachts?sub_confirmation=1 Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jeffmerrillyachtsales/?fref=nf Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jmys_trawlers Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jmystrawlers/ Music: Sunrise From a Moonbeam - Dan _Lebo_ Lebowitz, Tone Seeker - YouTube Library Jeff Merrill Yacht Sales, Inc. is a licensed and bonded yacht brokerage in California, Florida, Virginia and Washington – we travel the world to be with our clients!

To learn more about Keane Insurance and to seek your bespoke boat policy check them out here - https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=YSN After nine months tied up to the dock in Hout Bay, our new Yanmar engine is in and we are back out on the water for our second sea trial. Everything feels a little different now. The way the boat handles and lets be honest, It’s been a while since we’ve sailed... so before taking on the miles ahead, we just want time with Nandji 2 and getting a feel for it all once again. Cape Town weather isn’t something to take lightly. During summer, the high-pressure systems can bring strong relentless south east wind and 50 knots is not uncommon. Then in winter, the lows bring a South west wind and massive ground swells hammering the coastline. With a strong south-easter building and no easy way back into Hout Bay, we had to change plans, head north and find shelter. Which is how we’ve ended up right in the middle of Cape Town city. If you can't be bothered with all the logistics of a bigger boat but you still want the comfort and handling then this might be an option for you. The Navan S30 is a little heavier than most Adventure style hulls so he motion through the water feels a little more like what you'd be used to on some American hulls. Not the same!.. but similar. This is essentially a highly capable platform that you can load a bunch of mates onboard and cruise almost anywhere and at a very healthy speed. She's more optimised for social boating and water sports over fishing and it's fair to say she's a pretty sexy looking thing so if you just want something cool.. this is also that boat! In this Practical Sailor review, we take a deep dive into the Bruce Farr–designed Beneteau First series, including the First 40.7, First 36.7, and First 34.7. These performance cruisers blend race-winning hull design with practical interiors, making them some of the most well-rounded sailboats on the used market today. If you’ve been looking for a sailboat that’s actually fun to sail but still comfortable enough for family cruising, this is a must-watch. We cover the history of the Beneteau and Bruce Farr partnership, what makes these boats sail so well, real-world performance, ownership considerations, and whether these are truly “the fast sailboats your wife will love.” Whether you’re researching the best performance cruising sailboats, affordable used sailboats, or trying to find the perfect balance between speed and comfort, this video breaks it all down in a clear, practical way to help you decide if the First 40.7 or its smaller siblings are right for you. We finished up two major projects that we have been working on for months, we got the first daggerboard casing installed and them glued down the sole under the heads and over the various diesel, black, and gray water tanks. It was a big moment! So come join Captain Blood, Admiral Marianne, and our XO, Brian as we build our 50' performance cruising catamaran for a circumnavigation voyage.
