This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, the World on Water for February 27 2026. The 2026 RORC Caribbean 600 got underway in spectacular style in Antigua from Fort Charlotte, high above the iconic Pillars of Hercules. At the start of the 17th edition, the international RORC fleet set out for the non-stop 600-mile race around 11 stunning Caribbean islands. The starting sequence was split into five starts with the Multihull and IRC Monohull entries at the end of the sequence. White caps on the Caribbean surf confirmed at least 15 knots of breeze, but tantalizing shifts and wind lanes produced very tactical decisions from the get-go. If the opening salvos are any indication, the 2026 RORC Caribbean 600 is set for a full-blooded duel in IRC Zero. The pre-start between Niklas Zennström’s Carkeek 52, Rán, and Frédéric Puzin’s Carkeek 54, Daguet 5, was nothing short of electric. Rán seized the early initiative, forcing Daguet 5 into evasive action to avoid being over the line. The pair split tacks seconds from the gun, but quickly converged again beneath the cliffs of Fort Charlotte, pressing all the way inshore in a high-stakes game. With Rán to leeward and Daguet 5 controlling from windward, the tack out was virtually simultaneous, a battle royale is clearly set to continue offshore. With virtually the entire big boat class committing to the pin end, the start was always going to be a high-stakes confrontation. Mills 72 Balthasar skippered by Louis Balcaen was marginally early and eased sheets a fraction close to the line. Balthasar was quickly overhauled by Remon Vos’ Maxi 100 Black Jack 100. To leeward and a fraction later than Black Jack, the Farr 100 Leopard 3, helmed by Joost Schuijff, hit the line at full pace and squeezed up to windward of Black Jack 100, momentarily back-wind-ing the 100-footer as both charged towards the cliffs of Antigua with little sea room to spare. The early duel continued offshore, with Black Jack 100 rounding the Barbuda mark first, holding a two-minute advantage over Leopard 3.

Weil der Grenzposten am westlichen Ende Kubas geschlossen hat, müssen wir nach Havanna, um endlich einchecken zu können. In Tagesetappen zwischen 30 und 40 Seemeilen arbeiten wir uns die Westküste hinauf, ankern vor traumhaften Stränden und in abgelegenen Buchten. Auf der Insel Levisa hoffen wir, etwas Abwechslung zu finden, doch auch dort - wie an vielen Orten auf Kuba - hat das Hotel kürzlich seine Pforten geschlossen: eine Folge des Öl-Embargos. Die verwaiste Anlage wirkt wie eine Geisterstadt. Und dann, als wir endlich die Marina Hemingway im Westen Havannas erreichen, meldet sich niemand an der Funke.

It's a boat show like no other. New, old, big, small, foils, keels, kit and more....Many of the stands are manned by volunteers who are strong advocates for their class. Sharing the crammed aisles are boat builders, sail makers, sailing schools, chandleries and pretty much everyone else with a part to play in the dinghy and small boat world. The UK has led this scene for many years so it's perhaps of little surprise that the only show specifically aimed at this market should continue to be successful. And yet with renewed pressure on wallets and less than inspiring winter weather, it was encouraging to see the aisles rammed with buzz aplenty at the Farnborough based show. Mach 50 Palanad 4 – E.Leclerc (FRA), skippered by Antoine Magre, took victory in IRC Zero, finished the 2026 RORC Caribbean 600 to take class line honours in an elapsed time of 2d 10:32:31 and posting the best IRC corrected time to secure the class win. James Neville’s Carkeek 45 Ino Noir took a bold but calculated gamble on the very last leg to finish second on IRC corrected time by a slim margin. Niklas Zennstrom’s ’s Rán completed the podium. The IRC Zero contest featured a sustained battle between Palanad 4, James Neville’s Ino Noir (GBR), Niklas Zennström’s Rán (SWE) and Frederic Puzin’s Daguet 5 (FRA). Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Seitdem lag Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hatte begonnen. Am 17 August 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Obwohl Squib noch nicht ganz fertig ist, werfen wir die Leinen los und starten unsere erste Etappe donauabwärts. Dreieinhalb Wochen später erreichen wir das Donaudelta, der Mast wird gestellt, ein passendes Wetterfenster abgewartet, in zwei Sclägen überqueren wir das Schwarze Meer bis zum Bosporus. Ohne Einzuklarieren mit gehisster Q Flagge durchqueren wir die Türkei und erreichen 5 Tage später die Ägäis. Über Limnos und die nördlichen Sporaden segeln wir bis in den Großraum Athen, von wo aus Sabina nach Hause fliegt, weil ihr Urlaub zu Ende ist.
