The Nordhavn 47 Ranger has SOLD! She closed in August, 2025. This video was prepared for marketing and promotion, but between filming in July 2025 and video production in August 2025, a full price offer was received, and the video was put on hold. Ranger is an exceptional Nordhavn 47, a 2004 model year that was actively cruised and cared for by experienced yachties. She surveyed beautifully, including a very thorough buyer ordered inspection by Steve D’Antonio. The sellers of Ranger owned a Nordhavn 35 previously and are experienced trawler cruisers, airplane pilots and RV campers – they enjoy the best and take good care of their possessions. The “non-flybridge” model is sought after by purists who prefer the sleeker, low-profile look. Ranger is hull 25 in the Nordhavn 47 series. The popular two stateroom and two head configuration is a great layout. Her teak interior with granite counters is fitted out with the beautiful craftsmanship you appreciate on every Nordhavn. Ranger is powered by a Lugger LP668T main engine, keel cooled with dry stack exhaust (under 5,000 hours in August 2025). For redundancy she has a Lugger 844D wing engine (under 150 hours). To complete her diesel package she has a 16 kW Northern Lights generator (under 3,500 hours). Underway she enjoys the comfort of ABT TRAC stabilization and for arriving inshore she has a Maxwell windlass and Side Power bow and stern thruster. The mast and boom package was selected (with a hinged base) was ordered so that she could go below low bridges or tuck into a reasonable height boat house. Her Boston Whaler tender is a restored 1983, special 25th anniversary edition. In April of 2025, Jeff Merrill and Brian Calvert got together to spend some time catching up while both were in Anacortes, WA for Trawlerfest. Brian and Jeff met and became instant friendly competitors on the boat show circuit – Brian representing Selene, and Jeff representing Nordhavn. They overlapped with shows and clients, but it was always fair and fun and both had the same attitude that which trawler a buyer selected was not as important as just getting a trawler and going out cruising. As time has marched on, they have remained in touch. Jeff continues being active in the trawler brokerage community. Brian and his partners in the Friday Harbor Yacht Sales team helped sell over 150 new Selenes and a large number of brokerage Selene’s, easily the most impactful introduction of the Selene brand to North America. After a long career helping his clients realize their goals, Brian joined them and took off to cross the Pacific aboard his Selene 48 Furthur. #TrawlerSkills Welcome to a summary video of what it is like to go through the Saint Lucie Lock and Dam, in Stuart, FL. Here are the names and phone numbers of the five locks on the Lake Okeechobee waterway that connect the Gulf (Fort Myers) to the Atlantic (Stuart): W.P. Franklin Lock 239-694-5451 Ortona Lock 863-675-0616 Moore Haven Lock 863-946-0414 Port Mayaca Lock 561-924-2858 St. Lucie Lock 772-287-2665 Traffic runs west bound and east bound and it is best to contact the lock master by VHF radio as you arrive to learn about timing and next lock through opportunity. Earlier this year, the American Tug 435, Odyssey, came though the St. Lucie Lock and Jeff was there to greet them and film their transit. The process of locking is routine to regulars, but a bit of a learning curve to newcomers. The Army Corps of Engineers, manages the locks and are almost always incredibly helpful. The amount of time it takes to enter the locks, change to the water level on the other side, and then depart the locks varies by the number of boats going through, but it’s normally a short diversion and can be completed in under an hour each way. There is a bit of tedium, the expression, “hurry up and wait” comes to mind, so we tried to fast forward the video clock to make viewing this video more appealing. The St. Lucie Lock construction is over 100 years old (and has been upgraded over time). Hours of operation vary, but normally the lock is ready from morning to evening, during daylight hours (commonly 7am – 5pm).
