If you’re shopping for a sailboat in Florida, the Bahamas, the Chesapeake, the Gulf Coast, or anywhere with shallow creeks, canals, sandbars, and skinny-water marinas, draft might be the most important number on the spec sheet. In this video, we look at the best shallow draft sailboats for real-world cruising, including production monohulls you can actually find used today. We talk about Island Packet, Catalina, Bristol, Hunter, and Beneteau models that make sense for sailors who need a shoal draft sailboat that can handle thin water without becoming a strange one-off unicorn boat. We’ll cover shallow draft cruising boats like the Island Packet 31, Catalina 30 wing keel, Catalina 28 MkII, Catalina 270, Bristol 29.9 centerboard, Bristol 35.5C, Hunter 306 shoal draft, Beneteau Oceanis 281, and Beneteau First 285. We’ll also explain the difference between wing keels, shoal keels, and centerboards, why some “shoal draft” sailboats still draw too much water, and what to watch for when buying a used shallow draft cruising sailboat. If you want to cruise Florida, explore the ICW, gunkhole in skinny water, anchor closer to shore, or keep a sailboat behind your house, this is the buyer’s guide for you. Need a consult? Jeanneau 55 Boat Review: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sailboat-reviews/sailboats-over40ft/jeanneau-55-boat-review/ If you’re searching for luxury sailboats you can live on that don’t sacrifice sailing performance, the Beneteau Oceanis 461 is one of the most compelling options on the used market. In this Practical Sailor review, we take a deep dive into the Bruce Farr–designed Beneteau Oceanis 461, a proven liveaboard sailboat that blends comfort, space, and real-world sailing ability. We cover key specs, layout options, performance under sail, and what makes this one of the best comfortable cruising sailboats for couples and families. If you’re looking for a sailboat you can live on full time, a luxury cruising sailboat, or a comfortable bluewater cruiser alternative, this is a must-watch. We also explore how the Oceanis 461 compares to other larger Farr-designed Beneteaus, including the Beneteau 50, Beneteau 57, Beneteau 44CC, and Beneteau 62. These boats represent the next step up from performance cruisers into true liveaboard cruising yachts, offering more space, better accommodations, and layouts designed for long-term comfort. Whether you’re researching best liveaboard sailboats, affordable luxury sailboats, or trying to find the perfect balance between sailing performance and onboard comfort, this video breaks down everything you need to know before buying a large cruising sailboat. ► On side decks - and especially in the cockpits of our multihulls - alternatives to teak are now firmly established, with a wide range of options combining composites, synthetics, and natural materials. Within this landscape, Navicork offers a decking solution based on cork. ► Developed by the Corticeira Amorim group, the world leader in cork processing, the product fits into a structured industrial approach, with full control over the raw material and its transformation. On board, its qualities are immediately practical. Cork absorbs little heat in the sun, provides good grip, and offers a certain softness underfoot. Its structure also helps reduce noise and vibrations, delivering noticeable comfort gains both underway and at anchor. Weight is another advantage: a cork deck is lighter than teak or some composite alternatives. ► Installation of Navicork is flexible, as the material is custom-made for both new builds and refits. In retrofit applications, installation requires specific expertise and is best left to professionals. ► On the production side, the solution is already being integrated into series-built boats. Groupe Bénéteau, for example, has selected Navicork for the cockpit of the Excess 13, following technical validation covering abrasion resistance, non-slip performance, and durability in a marine environment. ► www.navicork.com ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! The Hanse 630e was the flagship of Hanse Yachts when it launched in the mid-2000s, designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co as a powerful blend of performance and cruising comfort. At the time, it was the largest series-built yacht ever produced by the German yard. Hanse Yachts was founded by Michael Schmidt, a former Admiral’s Cup-winning sailor, who didn’t just build yachts from an office, he actually cruised and raced them himself. He famously owned and sailed his own Hanse 630e, taking her on serious offshore passages to prove the concept: fast, easily handled cruising that could still perform like performance yachts. Junglefever shows that idea in motion, effortless speed, clean lines, and relaxed asymmetrical sailing in perfect conditions. Sit back and enjoy the sail.

Long before sunrise, he walks the beach where the Maleo birds return. There are no fences here, only trust, patience, and watchful eyes. This episode follows Agus, a man who has chosen to protect one of Indonesia’s most endangered birds — guarding nesting grounds, monitoring fragile eggs, and standing between survival and disappearance. It’s a story about time, responsibility, and devotion to a species that cannot protect itself. A reminder that conservation often begins with one person deciding to stay. #LocalHeroSeries #MaleoBird #ProtectingMaleo #WildlifeConservation #EndangeredSpecies #IndonesiaWildlife #NatureGuardians #LocalHeroes #ProtectOurWildlife 👍 If you found this video interesting, don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE for more adventure in Indonesia through Indonesian eyes! After a windy, sleepless night, we make a move at first light, arriving at Kioni just as other boats were leaving, which gave us great position in the bay - opposite the main dock and in shallow water to tie up and make for a perfect swimming space. Our friends 'Topo' (who we first met in Dubrovnik, Croatia) joined us and after spending the day catching up & swimming, we headed into town for dinner. What a delightful, character-filled town it was! From little stores, hand-made jewellery, local children fishing, to music and dining by the water. We shared a meal and laughs. After a few days and a deadline to be further North we set sail for an anchorage with high cliffs and crystal clear water. Unfortunately, being mid peak season, we couldn't find a space for us to tie-up and had to make a call where we would spend the night; either Vasiliki which is known for its wind, but a closer route for tomorrows trip, or the safe bet Nydri, with the bridge at Lefkas due to re-open tomorrow which would make for a shorter more protected journey. We opted for the later but found a spot on the way back for a swim to cool off. Want early access to our videos? Seventeen editions in, the RORC Caribbean 600 continues to evolve. In 2026, a south-easterly trade wind reshaped the race — turning what is often a fast-reaching course into a more technical test. Longer upwind phases, tighter angles, and constant transitions placed a premium on decision-making and execution across the full 600-mile course. At the front of the fleet, Leopard 3 secured overall victory under IRC, while Black Jack 100 claimed Monohull Line Honours after a close-fought maxi battle. In the multihulls, Argo delivered one of the tightest finishes in race history to take Line Honours. Across the classes: * IRC Overall & Super Zero – Leopard 3 (Joost Schuijff) * IRC Zero – Palanad 4 (Antoine Magre) * IRC One – Rikki (Bruce Chafee) * IRC Two – Belladonna (Richard Dilley) * MOCRA – Calamity (Timo Tavio) * Class40 – Solano (Robin Follin) The Class40 division also delivered one of the defining moments of the race, as Solano diverted to assist a capsized vessel, safely recovering all six crew before continuing to secure the class win — a reminder that seamanship remains at the heart of offshore racing. From elite professional teams to Corinthian crews, the 2026 edition was shaped by precision, consistency, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions. The 18th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 is scheduled to start from Fort Charlotte Antigua on Monday 22 February 2027, preceded by the inshore RORC Nelson’s Cup Series. Day 28 is done! Today was a quick update because we’ve got friends visiting and we’re heading out on a speedboat around the island — mainly because there’s absolutely no wind for sailing today! 🌊☀️ Last night we went out dancing, but instead of drinking alcohol I stuck with sparkling water, lime and ice. We finally leave Blankenberg after staying for quite a while waiting for a good weather window to head north. The North Sea isn’t that kind and we are unable to sail, so we motor north. We make our way to the southern end of the Standing Mast Route and the lock which will lead us into the canal system. It’s beautiful and we end up at a stunning location, an island all our selves in a picturesque spot. We find a lost soul. Thank you for watching. See you all next time. Wendy and Magnus HYPE US! You don’t need a yoga practice. You don’t need sailing experience. Just bring yourself, a mat, and whatever you’re ready to leave in the wake. This is the day your body remembers. For most of human history, the body lived outdoors — moving with wind and water, oriented by the horizon, regulated by the rhythm of the natural world. The city is recent. The screen is very recent. But the body hasn’t forgotten what it needs. It’s just been a long time since anyone gave it back. Yoga and sailing were made for each other. They share one core principle: stop fighting and start moving with what’s already in motion. On the mat, that’s the breath. On the water, that’s the wind. Both teach you to find your center in the middle of movement — and discover that stillness and flow aren’t opposites. They’re the same thing. Outdoors, under the sun in the salt-laced air, this goes somewhere a spa day or studio simply cannot reach. The horizon opens your nervous system. The rhythm of the boat keeps you present without effort. The salt air, the light, the sound of the sails filling, it lands like a primal reminder of what the body needs.

We took a break from full-time boat life to explore South Africa in a completely different way — chasing waves, meeting incredible people, and stepping into our first ever surf competition. From the coastline of Jeffreys Bay to the rugged cliffs of Gansbaai and the energy of Cape Town, this became one of the most memorable parts of our journey so far. ⸻ For a few weeks, we swapped life on the water for the open road — trading anchorages for road trips, surf sessions, and new experiences as a family. Along the way, we: * Surfed the world-famous right-handers of JBay * Adjusted (quickly!) to freezing water temperatures * Met some of the most welcoming people we’ve come across * Explored hidden gems like the Drip Cave and Klipgat Caves * And watched Bella & Archie take on their first surf competition It wasn’t just about the waves — it was about slowing down, seeing a new side of South Africa, and experiencing life at a different pace. ⸻ If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to step away from one way of life and try something completely different… this one’s for you. ⸻ 🌊 Join Our Sailing Family Adventure! We’re the Fothergills – a family of six living full-time aboard our catamaran, Happy Days. SUPPORT our boat refit: www.red-seas.com/refit and help us keep making these videos for you. This boat project is the main reason we hauled out and started this huge refit in the first place. Our sailboat is more than 20 years old and the thru hulls were all starting to corrode and look well past their best, and when something as crucial as the only thing stopping you from sinking is looking past its best...it's time to get to work! We are removing 17 bronze thru hulls from our boat and replacing them with newer, plastic ones from TruDesign. We'll add collars for extra strength where possible and we can't wait to have a more reliable solution in the boat. Things get tricky with a few of our thru hulls at the end but that just gives us an excuse to make another change on Indioko. Episode 267 We’re leaving the turquoise waters of Great Keppel Island behind and heading somewhere most boats never go. After an incredible time exploring the hidden gems of Great Keppel, it was time to pull anchor and find some solitude. We navigated a tricky, narrow entrance to find a "no-name" anchorage where the forest literally meets the sea. Total isolation, just us, the beach, and the birds. But the real culture shock came next. We sailed north to Stanage, a tiny, remote town at the end of 60 miles of grueling dirt roads. With only one shop and a handful of locals, it’s about as "Outback" as a coastal town gets. We grabbed the bicycles, hit the dusty tracks, and met the legends who call this isolated patch of Australia home.
