This week’s D-Log might be one of the most important (and overlooked) topics we’ve covered in a while… Jubilee clips. Not the most exciting bit of kit onboard… but absolutely critical. 🔧 Why This Matters If you think about it, jubilee clips are everywhere on a boat: Engine cooling systems Fuel lines Freshwater systems Bilge pumps Exhaust hoses Anywhere you’ve got a hose… you’ve probably got a clip holding it in place. And if that clip fails—especially below the waterline—you’re not just dealing with a leak… 👉 You could be dealing with a sinking boat. ⚠️ What We Cover in This Video In this D-Log, I break down everything you need to know, including: Why jubilee clips fail (corrosion, vibration, poor quality, overtightening) The difference between cut-out and grooved thread clips Why cheaper clips can actually damage your hoses The key differences between 304 and 316 stainless steel Why 316 (especially 316L) is the only real choice for marine use Why anything below the waterline should ALWAYS be double clipped 🛠️ Simple Checks That Could Save Your Boat This is one of those jobs that takes minutes… but could prevent a disaster. ✔ Check for corrosion or rust ✔ Look for pitting or sharp edges ✔ Make sure clips are tight (but not overtightened) ✔ Upgrade to 316 stainless grooved clips where needed ✔ Double clip all below-waterline hoses 💡 Final Thought It’s easy to ignore the small stuff onboard… But often, it’s the smallest components that cause the biggest problems. Have you ever put off learning a boating skill because it looked too difficult? That was me... until now. In this video, I take on my first ever splicing project after new marina rules meant I had to rethink how I secure Dream to the pontoon. The marina's newly installed pontoons no longer allow metal springs to be attached directly, so I came up with a simple solution using spliced rope strops, stainless steel thimbles and my existing mooring springs. I explain why I made the change, show you the finished installation, and share what I learnt from tackling a skill I'd never attempted before. 75 HARD DAY 52 | Discipline Creates Momentum 🚴‍♂️🔥 Welcome back to my 75 Hard Challenge journey! Today is Day 52, and the challenge continues. This morning started early, with me up just after 6am. After getting a little work done, I headed out for a 45-minute bike ride, while Jenny was out completing her run. The progress photos are done, the food plan is on track, and I'm already more than halfway through my gallon of water. In today's video, I talk about one of the biggest benefits I've experienced from 75 Hard that has nothing to do with weight loss or fitness. Since starting this challenge, my motivation and productivity have gone through the roof. One content creation project that I had left sitting dormant for 9 years has suddenly exploded. In just over a week it has gone from 44 subscribers to over 2,000 subscribers and more than 80,000 views, reaching the monetisation requirements. I genuinely believe the discipline, consistency, and habits developed through 75 Hard have played a huge part in making that happen. Day 50 and 51 are in the books and we're still going strong! This morning I got back on the bike for the first time in several days after giving my knee a rest. The first few minutes were tough, but once I got moving everything loosened up and, surprisingly, my knee feels better than it has for a few days. Yesterday's workouts were battle ropes, IsoBow training, and an evening walk that completely drained me. Sometimes during 75 Hard the body simply needs refuelling, so last night it was jacket potatoes and chicken to get some quality carbs back into the system. The difference this morning was remarkable. One thing I've learned during this challenge is that when you're training every single day without rest days, recovery becomes just as important as the workouts themselves. The biggest change though? 75 Hard no longer feels like a challenge. It's become a habit. With only 26 days remaining, we're already looking ahead to the next goal — training for the Santorini Experience Open Water Swim, a 2.5km crossing of the famous caldera. Another combined update as I continue through the 75 Hard Challenge. Following my consultation with the orthopedic specialist and MRI scan, I've been given strict instructions not to run until the results are back. While that's frustrating, it doesn't mean the challenge stops. For the last couple of days I've switched my workouts to walking, but with a purpose. Increasing the pace, increasing the distance, and keeping the discipline alive. One of the biggest lessons I'm learning from 75 Hard is that success isn't about perfect conditions. It's about adapting when things don't go according to plan and continuing to move forward anyway. No running. No excuses. No quitting. Just consistent effort every single day. Today started with battle ropes, resistance bands, and then a 20-minute walk/run session — probably a 50/50 split between running and walking, but the important thing is… progress is happening. The energy is good, the consistency is there, and mentally I’m feeling locked in. The knee is still being managed sensibly, but every day feels like another step forward. That’s the thing with 75 Hard — it’s not about perfection, it’s about showing up every single day regardless of how you feel. Tonight’s reward?
