요트 대회를 앞두고 있으면 꼭 2주 전부터 잠을 설치는 것 같다. 설레서 그러는 건지, 걱정돼서 그러는 건지 잘 모르겠지만, 막중한 책임감을 안고 있는 이상, 훌륭한 퍼포먼스도 좋지만 무엇보다 중요한 건 나에겐 항상 안전이다. 레이싱요트는 유독 대회 전에 준비할 게 많다. 엔진 점검부터 세일, 리깅, 그리고 팀 훈련까지 다양하다. 하지만 늘 놓치는 게 존재하고, 실수도 반복하는 것 같다. 그 과정 속에서 힘겨움도 있고, 체력 소모도 커서 늘 고되긴 하지만.. 그래도 그 과정에서 얻는 즐거움과 배움이 참 큰 것 같다.
