This episode begins with me sailing away from the Lockhart River in almost no wind, creeping along and hoping to reach Portland Road before sunset. Eventually the breeze arrives — all the way up to 23 knots on the beam — and ARGO lights up, pushing past 7 knots as I tick over a big milestone: 5,000 nautical miles sailed since buying the boat. Getting into Portland Road comes with a very real reminder of where I’m cruising. As I return to ARGO in the tender, I spot a large crocodile nearby. It’s incredible how vulnerable you feel in an inflatable tender when you lose sight of a croc… especially when the water is so shallow you have to row the first 30 metres before you can start the outboard. Later that night, I shine a light under the hull and see sharks prowling beneath the boat, adding to the wild atmosphere of Far North Queensland. My next stop is Forbes Island — a remote, rarely visited paradise that’s not easy to reach. But the reward is worth every mile: a white sandy beach, a few palm trees, and turquoise water that looks unreal. It’s the kind of place that reminds you exactly why living aboard a boat is worth the effort. A perfect spot to enjoy a cold beer and watch the sun go down. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main ‘action’ cameras are an Insta Ace pro 2 and a DJI Action 4 while the ‘big camera is a Canon R50. All use Dji mini wireless mics or a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea:I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! Wir starten zu einer Wanderung hoch zum Montaña Amarilla und werden mit einer fantastischen Aussicht belohnt. Dirk druckt wieder ein Ersatzteil mit seinem 3D-Drucker an Bord und am Ende explodiert noch unser SUP!!! After the grueling crossing to the Canary Islands, we drop anchor off La Graciosa, the northernmost Canary Island. The island is truly special: we feel like we’ve landed in the middle of the desert. No roads, just low, white houses and plenty of sand, plus volcanoes—simply beautiful! We set out on a hike up to Montaña Amarilla and are rewarded with a fantastic view. Ungeplante Nachtwanderung auf Panarea: Erst segeln wir als Crew ohne Chris' Hilfe zur kleinsten bewohnten Äolischen Insel. Dann erwischen wir den falschen Weg, stehen bei Sonnenuntergang auf dem Gipfel und müssen im Dunkeln 400 m steil bergab zurück zum Boot. ⛵ DAS ERWARTET EUCH IM VIDEO – unser Experiment: Schafft es die Crew ohne Papas Hilfe zur nächsten Insel? – Panarea, die kleinste bewohnte Äolische Insel – ein falscher Abzweig, und aus 20 versprochenen Höhenmetern wird der Gipfel – Sonnenuntergang über den Äolischen Inseln – der Abstieg im Dunkeln, nur mit Handytaschenlampen – eine Stille, wie wir sie selten gehört haben 🧭 DAS EXPERIMENT Normalerweise bringt uns Chris sicher von Insel zu Insel. Aber was, wenn er mal krank ist? Also übernehmen Brigitte und die Jungs: Felix steht am Steuer, Samuel kümmert sich um die Segel. 11 Seemeilen von Lipari nach Panarea. 🌄 DIE NACHTWANDERUNG Eigentlich wollten wir nur eine kleine Runde laufen. Geworden ist es der Gipfel, Sonnenuntergang inklusive, und ein Abstieg über steile, zugewachsene Pfade mit wackeligen Steinen. Am Ende nur noch mit zwei Handytaschenlampen. 💭 WAS BLEIBT Ein bisschen stolz sind wir schon, dass wir das zusammen geschafft haben. Auf unseren Reisen wird es bestimmt noch öfter Momente geben, in denen man Hunger hat, friert, ein bisschen Angst hat und trotzdem weitergehen muss.
