Clemens und Claus widmen sich in dieser Folge einem Aspekt des Skipperlebens, der im Podcast bisher zu kurz kam: der emotionalen und sozialen Intensität, die das Leben an Bord mit sich bringt. Denn wer regelmäßig als Skipper auf dem Wasser unterwegs ist, erlebt nicht nur Nautik – er erlebt Menschen in Ausnahmesituationen. Clemens erzählt von einer schwierigen Situation, in der er einen Trainee vom Boot verweisen musste, weil sein Verhalten die Lernumgebung für die gesamte Crew zerstörte. Was lange nach dem Törn noch nachwirkte: Der junge Mann tauchte beim Abschlussfeiern wieder auf und bat alle persönlich um Entschuldigung. Eine Geste, die Clemens bis heute nicht vergessen hat. Eine weitere Geschichte dreht sich um einen erfahrenen, erfolgreichen Mann, der nach einer langen, zermürbenden Jachtmaster-Prüfung so erschöpft war, dass er Clemens gestand: Er wisse nicht, ob er bestanden habe. Das Ergebnis war gut – aber der Moment zeigte, wie viel Prüfungsdruck selbst mit gestandenen Menschen machen kann. Clemens schildert außerdem einen Abend am Ende eines Spitzbergen-Törns, an dem ein ansonsten eher zurückhaltender Mitsegler die Gruppe mit seiner emotionalen Offenheit überraschte. Mit Tränen in den Augen bedankte er sich und sprach davon, dass die vergangenen 14 Tage zu den besten seines Lebens gehörten. Ein Abend, der alle angesteckt hat. Claus bringt seine eigenen Erfahrungen ein: eine Nordsee-Atlantik-Überfahrt in der Covid-Zeit, auf der eine gerissene Genua und tagelanger Anker-Zwangsstopp vor der spanischen Küste aus einem flüchtigen Bekannten einen Freund für immer gemacht haben. Am Ende sind sich beide einig: Das Skipperleben ist eines der intensivsten Leben, die man führen kann. Nicht wegen der Meilen, sondern wegen der Menschen. 75 HARD DAY 52 | Discipline Creates Momentum 🚴‍♂️🔥 Welcome back to my 75 Hard Challenge journey! Today is Day 52, and the challenge continues. This morning started early, with me up just after 6am. After getting a little work done, I headed out for a 45-minute bike ride, while Jenny was out completing her run. The progress photos are done, the food plan is on track, and I'm already more than halfway through my gallon of water. In today's video, I talk about one of the biggest benefits I've experienced from 75 Hard that has nothing to do with weight loss or fitness. Since starting this challenge, my motivation and productivity have gone through the roof. One content creation project that I had left sitting dormant for 9 years has suddenly exploded. In just over a week it has gone from 44 subscribers to over 2,000 subscribers and more than 80,000 views, reaching the monetisation requirements. I genuinely believe the discipline, consistency, and habits developed through 75 Hard have played a huge part in making that happen. After an opening day that saw Ino, Django, RocketNikka, and Jolt all battling at the front of the fleet, today's offshore race promises to be a very different game. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 343 We were in Vuda Marina, Fiji, wrapping up boat projects and preparing to sail to the Lau island group when we got the news: a cyclone had formed nearby. Within 48 hours, we went from resupply mode to cyclone preparation mode. We secured the boat, reinforced dock lines, prepared for heavy wind and rain, and made the call to ride it out tied to the dock at Port Denarau Marina instead of at anchor. This is our first cyclone. And this episode shows the whole experience—the preparation, the intensity of the storm, the waiting, and the aftermath. About the Storm: The cyclone formed near Fiji with little warning. Wind speeds ramped up quickly, bringing heavy rain and sustained gusts. Being in the marina meant we had the support of professional staff, reinforced dock systems, and the ability to monitor conditions closely. The footage shows how intense the storm was. But honestly? We felt it way differently than we would have if we were out at anchor. And that's because of the Vuda Marina staff. They worked tirelessly during the storm—checking on every boat, adjusting lines, helping secure vessels, and staying proactive throughout. Their professionalism and dedication made a massive difference in our stress levels. We're incredibly grateful. ⚓ Thanks for watching! Viele denken beim Radar einfach nur an die weiße Kuppel oben am Mast. Doch die Position der Radaranlage an Bord ist tatsächlich ein ziemlich spannendes Thema. Auf Motorbooten sitzt das Radar meist möglichst hoch über dem Steuerstand — für maximale Reichweite. Bei Segelyachten ist das deutlich komplizierter: ⛵ Ganz oben im Mast bekommt man zwar mehr Reichweite… aber Krängung und Mastbewegungen beeinflussen dort das Radarbild stärker. Außerdem bringt zusätzliches Gewicht im Rigg Nachteile für die Stabilität der Yacht. Deshalb montieren viele Fahrtensegler ihr Radar lieber hinten am Geräteträger oder am Heckkorb: etwas weniger Reichweite — dafür oft ein ruhigeres Radarbild und weniger Gewicht im Mast. Und dann kommt noch der Radarreflektor ins Spiel. Denn mit deinem Radar siehst du andere Schiffe. Damit andere Schiffe aber auch dich sehen, braucht deine Yacht oft zusätzlich einen Radarreflektor. Gerade kleine GFK-Yachten sind auf fremden Radargeräten sonst häufig nur schlecht sichtbar — besonders bei Seegang oder Nebel. ⚓ Kurz gesagt: Radar hilft dir, andere zu sehen.
