Tra la rimozione dei vecchi adesivi a caldo e la tanto odiata carteggiatura, fortunatamente Alex (il nostro mago del refit) ci ha dato una grossa mano, portando lo scafo a specchio senza fare un filo di polvere! Nessuna traccia di osmosi grave, solo un paio di bollicine sistemate con resina epossidica. Siamo stati davvero fortunati a incrociare lui e la sua azienda, Squid & Co: lavora in modo impeccabile ed è un professionista altamente consigliato per chiunque passi da queste parti! Il CPT Max, nel frattempo, non sta certo con le mani in mano: tra la pulizia del teak con un nuovo tool elettrico Ryobi prestato proprio da Alex, lo smontaggio dell'elica di prua e la revisione totale della pompa ad alta pressione del dissalatore ZP, il lavoro non manca. Right now it’s too vulnerable to magnetic interference from all the metal things we want to store in the saloon, which means we can’t use that storage the way we’d like. Weekend ride back to Quezon City.

There is no job on a boat crappier—literally—than working on the heads. Our starboard head has been a thorn in our backside since the day the boat arrived brand new. First it was a leaking black water tank, which had to be replaced under warranty. Then came a mysterious leak somewhere around the toilet itself. Add in chronic backflow issues, and we finally just gave up and used the owner’s head in the port hull. But when the port head went down for maintenance, the starboard head demanded its moment in the spotlight. Marine toilets have a whole cast of characters that can fail, and in this episode the villain was the joker valve—the little rubber gatekeeper that keeps raw sewage from washing back into the bowl after a flush. While replacing it, we also uncovered the source of the leak and fixed that too. What started as a truly crappy day ended with a working head and a smile. Victory never smelled so sweet. Join us as we begin our Southeast Alaska Inside Passage tour with our friend Atz Kilcher. We live aboard our sailboat in Alaska year-round, four seasons. Sometimes friends come visit, and we get to show them this place the way we experience it… by water, moving from one stop to the next. We’ve already shared a few adventures along the way (Carbonated Springs, Warm Springs, and Port Protection), but this series follows the actual cruising between destinations. Atz joined us in Wrangell to kick things off. Some of you have seen him in recent videos… this is where the trip really begins. In this video, we leave Wrangell, make our way through the Wrangell Narrows toward Petersburg, Alaska, spend a little time in town (with a quick harbor tour on camera), and continue on to Portage Bay. Living on a sailboat in Indonesia… this is what a normal day looks like for us. ⚓️ We wake up to the sound of the ocean, surrounded by remote islands with no one else in sight. No schedule, no set plan , just the wind, the waves, and whatever the day decides to bring. This morning starts like most… slow and quiet. Coffee on deck, checking the weather, and getting ready to move. We pull up anchor, tidy up the boat, and set sail toward the next island — not fully knowing what we’ll find, but trusting the journey. Sailing through Indonesia has been nothing short of unreal. Thousands of islands, crystal clear water, and the kind of freedom we used to only dream about. But life out here isn’t just about the views… it’s about learning as we go, adapting to the ocean, and figuring things out every single day. As we sail, we drop a line in the water… not expecting much… until suddenly — we hook a fish. And just like that, dinner is sorted. Moments like this never get old. There’s something so rewarding about catching your own food out here in the middle of nowhere. After dropping sails and finding a calm place to anchor, the day is far from over. Boards out, dinghy in the water… it’s time to go surf. Some days we paddle straight from the boat, other days we explore… but today, we scored. Warm water, empty waves, and that feeling you can’t really put into words. Back on board, it’s time to prep the fish. Simple, fresh, straight from the ocean to the table. We head over to a nearby catamaran, fire up the BBQ, and end the day the best way we know how, good food, salt in our hair, and the sun setting over the ocean. It’s crazy to think that less than a year ago, we were dreaming about this life… and now this is our everyday. Living on a sailboat in our 20s isn’t always easy — there are challenges, long passages, things breaking, and moments of doubt… but days like this make it all worth it. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. My final UK event before heading back to Greece — and what a way to finish! This aquabike (400m swim + 22km bike) pushed me hard, especially battling a strong headwind on the ride. Despite that, I came away with a result I’m really proud of — including 🥇 1st in my age group. Considering that back in October I couldn’t have done any of this, it really shows how far things have come. In this episode, we take our first trip off the season on our solar powered boat, heading toward the charming town of Vonitsa. Somehow it seems like we're faster this season, and I try to figure out why. Later with 35 knot winds on the way, we make the call to pull anchor and find safer shelter. What follows is a tense anchoring session, in a quiet bay that turns out to be one of the most special places we’ve ever visited… a bay filled with rays gliding beneath the surface. This is what we love most, turning electrons into real adventures.

A short little film of our time we experienced a thunder and lightening storm at anchor in Pendrell Sound. The bolts of lightening were definitely far too close for comfort but it was beautiful at the same time. We have so much sailing footage of British Columbia over the years and hope to bring it all to life on this channel in the near future. This isn’t our usual sailing journey - this time, we trade the ocean for mountains as we take on one of the most breathtaking destinations in the world. We finally got the new bow trampolines installed on the mooring in Luperón, and damn, they turned out even better than we expected.
