La carène présente deux spécificités : un bulbe est greffé sur chaque étrave de façon à amortir le tangage, et les élancements sont particulièrement importants à l’arrière. Là aussi, le but des architectes est d’offrir une plate-forme le plus stable possible, y compris en longitudinal. Deux ballasts de 1 200 litres chacun sont également prévus à l’arrière. Les longs quillons assortis aux skegs de safrans autorisent l’échouage. ► Full test in Multihulls World N°204. ► The 3D images we’d received had given us a good idea that the Tortue 147 wasn’t really going to look like a standard multihull... In the end, we were in for quite a surprise at La Grande-Motte! The catamaran on display, an ode to slow living, boasts a truly unique design and layout, with a nacelle reminiscent of a turtle shell, large stained-glass portholes, a suspended chart table seat, and a cabin layout reminiscent of a small mountain chalet. The same surprising atmosphere reigns at the after end of the boat, where a modest suspended balcony serves as a cockpit. We’re obviously impressed by the diamond-shaped windows integrated into the floor of the nacelle, and we are hardly surprised by the presence of a beautiful plant, whose pot was designed during the construction process. The build was undertaken in Tunisia using semi-thick aluminum for optimal impact resistance. The hull has two specific features: a bulbous bow is grafted onto each side to dampen pitching, and the stern is particularly sleek. Here again, the architects’ aim was to provide the most stable platform possible, including longitudinally. Two 1,200-liter (317-gallon) ballast tanks are also provided aft. Long keels and rudder skegs allow you to take the ground. Peu de changements sur les coques à peine rallongées ; en revanche, le plan de pont et les aménagements sont complètement inédits. A bord de l’Eighty 2 que nous venons de découvrir en exclusivité à Bordeaux, on retrouve donc le fameux bordé ouvrant dévoilé sur le Seventy 7 – il fait office de terrasse sur l’eau de la suite Propriétaire. There are few changes to the hulls, which have been slightly lengthened, but the deck layout and interior design are completely new. Un couple d’amis, Propriétaires d’un Neel 43, me demande de convoyer leur trimaran de Carteret, dans la Manche, jusqu’à Venise, en Italie. Au programme, une superbe navigation de plus de 2 000 milles nautiques avec quelques zones un peu « tricky » à traverser : la sortie de la Manche, avec ses forts courants de marée et son trafic maritime intense, la traversée du golfe de Gascogne, la descente des côtes ibériques avec les risques potentiels de rencontre avec les orques, le passage de Gibraltar, puis la remontée de la Méditerranée et de l’Adriatique, deux mers aux conditions souvent changeantes. Bonne nouvelle : le multicoque doit être à bon port au plus tard le 1er juillet. En prévoyant un départ à partir de la mi-mai, cela me laisse la possibilité de choisir une bonne fenêtre météo. ► Full Article in Multihulls World N°203. ► Our senior sailing reporter Brieuc Maisonneuve took advantage of a delivery trip (part of which he completed single-handed) at the helm of a trimaran to take stock of what is involved in preparing for solo sailing. Some offers are too good to miss! I’ve got a couple of friends who own a Neel 43, and they asked me to deliver their trimaran from Carteret, in Normandy, to Venice, Italy. The plan was a superb 2,000-nautical-mile voyage with a few tricky areas to navigate: getting clear of the Western Approaches (to the English Channel), with their strong tidal currents and heavy maritime traffic, the crossing of the Bay of Biscay, the descent southward along the Iberian coast with the potential risk of encountering killer whales, the passage through the Straits of Gibraltar, then across the Mediterranean and the Adriatic, two seas with often-changing conditions. The good news is that the multihull had to be in port by July 1 at the latest. By planning to leave in mid-May, I could choose the right weather window. To keep my skills sharp, I decided to sail solo for the first leg to Porto. A crewmate would then join me to continue the voyage. In this article, I invite you to join me in preparing for the trip. No sooner had he stepped ashore than our tester gave us his first impressions: “I’ve just tested the Cure 55. This is without doubt the most impressive performance cruiser I have sailed in years (and that’s not just because it’s Australian!) Fast, lightweight and quite maneuverable, this catamaran really has a lot to offer for 3.5 million Australian dollars.” In fact, the Cure 55 #1, which is the Performance version, is a sharp all-carbon catamaran that makes the most of its one-piece structure to keep its displacement down to just over 9 tons. The hulls are angled at 2.5° like the old Catanas, with very fine entry, slightly inverted bows, and daggerboards. The Hall Spars rig is obviously also in carbon, as is the Park Avenue boom that sits flush with the coachroof. The result?
