THE CAPTAIN LEFT...WHO TOOK OVER? - Sailing Martinique We are sailing the west coast of Martinique, but with a twist... The Captain is away. With Rob back in New Zealand, Declan and Ivan step to take the helm to keep our Caribbean sailing adventure moving forward. The only problem, which one is the Captain? This week we explore the beautiful French Caribbean island of Martinique, the boys navigate the unpredictable wind conditions along the west coast, keeping the boat moving safely and efficiently. We head ashore for a jungle adventure to Couleuvre waterfall hidden deep in the rainforest. And the jungle surprises us with an unexpected encounter with a large, hairy, tarantula concealed among the forests branches. This week marks a huge milestone in our catamaran build as we finally begin installing the electrical system. After months of planning and prep work, we take a trip to Annapolis to meet up with our friend Ryan, CEO of Dakota Lithium Batteries. While our batteries aren’t in hand just yet, Ryan was able to supply us with all of the Victron components that will power our boat. With those finally on board, we can officially start the electrical install. Back at the boat, Matt converts what was originally meant to be our hanging locker into the space that will house our inverters. He walks through how the mounts will be built and how the equipment will be suspended on one-inch foam to keep everything secure and isolated. Meanwhile, Jessica begins work on the overhead panels in the guest aft berth. Before the panels can go up, support blocks need to be carefully measured and placed to hold the female ends of the snaps. Because of the contours where the hull side, deck, and transom meet, this turns into a lot more measuring and laser marking than expected. It’s a meticulous process, and the next steps will continue in the following episode. We wrap up by jumping forward a week to where the hanging locker area has been sanded, painted, and is ready to receive the first Victron component — the beginning of our electrical system finally going into the boat. The next stage of the build will involve running a lot of wire throughout the boat. If you’d like to help support that part of the project, we’ve added many of the cables and supplies we need to our Amazon wishlist: Amazon Wishlist https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2B2BOYEH9THAH/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1 Thank you for following along with the build! In this video I speak my mind regarding the ongoing takeover and restriction of those who wish to live on sailboats. Cruisers and livaboards may become a thing of the past immanently. Hear me out. A last minute decision on the customer end has put me on a time crunch to get this little Westerbeke genset out of my shop and back to the boatyard where it can be reinstalled in their sailboat for cruising season. This thing has sat in my shop for two years and the customers were convinced they would sell it, however they have changed their minds and now it needs to be ready for the boatyard at the last minute so I am scrambling to get the last few things done and ready for them! Today I will replace the exhaust elbow (desperately in need of replacement), and the heat exchanger (also in bad shape) and I will take you along for the ride as I reassemble things!

In this episode, we continue into Day 2. The day begins with a steep climb straight from the hut, followed by our first real encounter with deep mud. Progress slows quickly, and what started as a physical challenge becomes something more. As we walk deeper into the forest, we begin to notice something we weren't expecting. Nothing goes to plan in Port Protection, Alaska. What starts as a straightforward day turns into a mix of everything… hauling gear from the beach, moving concrete, shifting culvert, and working under a house that’s been taking a beating from the elements. We’ve got help from our friend and Port Protection neighbor, Veronica… and let’s just say the landing didn’t exactly go smoothly. Out here, the tide sets the schedule, the weather changes by the hour, and you adjust as you go. By the end of the day, we’ve made real progress… solid footers poured, posts going in, and a clearer path forward. But getting there is never simple. This is what it actually looks like living and working in remote Alaska. Life in Port Protection Alaska, remote Alaska living, working in coastal Alaska, Southeast Alaska life, off grid lifestyle. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 Ocean + settling into the day 00:40 Starting work at the house 02:30 Hauling gear up from the beach 05:30 Moving concrete + heavy lifts 08:30 Working under the house 11:30 Digging + rebar + footing prep 13:30 Pouring concrete footers 15:30 Installing posts + culvert work 17:00 End of day update (progress + plan) 19:30 In the skiff – Veronica tells the story 😅 21:00 Weather + wrapping up the day
We’re kicking off Season 5 in the Dominican Republic. After getting the boat cleaned up and ourselves sorted, we take a trip across the island with Chris and Danielle to see a bit more of what life looks like here. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, we’ve made it to the Dominican Republic and are finally getting a chance to clean up the boat and ourselves after the trip down. Once things are under control, we head across the island with Chris and Danielle. We spend some time in Santo Domingo, check out the Los Tres Ojos cave system, and then make our way down to Bayahibe, where we end up at a resort bar on the water and find some really good Asian food. Getting around wasn’t exactly smooth. The driving, the roads, and the rental car all had their moments. To learn more about Keane Insurance and to seek your bespoke boat policy check them out here - https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=YSN After months of planning, stressing, and a whole lot of waiting, the stars finally decided to cooperate. With glassy conditions, barely a breath of wind, and a rare empty dock waiting for us, We carefully tugboat Nandji 2 out of her pen and made our way across the marina. Once alongside, it was time to say goodbye to the old seized engine that has been living in our cockpit for months, and believe it or not, we weren’t too sad to see it go. With the Seascape Marine crew on hand and ole trusty Fossil the crane swinging into action, before we knew it, a brand-new Yanmar 4JH110 was hovering above the cockpit. This a serious bit of kit, and a massive upgrade for Nandji 2. Once everything is fully installed, the reliability, the safety and the confidence this bigger engine will bring to our cruising plans for years to come is exactly what we have been working towards this whole time. On September 14th, 1914, RMS Carmania, recently converted into an armed merchant cruiser made a strange discovery in the South Atlantic-- another armed merchant cruiser disguised to look exactly like her. It was the German SMS Cap Trafalgar, which had also been converted into a war ship and disguised to trick allied ships. The encounter set off one of the strangest naval battles in history. A fight to the death between two luxury liners. In this video, we seize a rare 3-day weather window to sail east to the Tuamotus, planning a three-night passage. Along the way, we troubleshoot an engine issue, navigate the pass into Tahanea, and carefully weave through 7 miles of bommie-filled waters to reach our destination in the Southeast corner. #sailinglife, #liveaboard, #tuamotus, #sailingadventure, #boatlife, #offshoresailing, #cruisinglife, #sailingvlog, #oceanadventure, #tahanea, #navigation, #enginefix NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? Day in the Life with Erwan & Clément 🇫🇷⛵️ Ahead of the first World Cup of the season in Palma de Mallorca, we take you behind the scenes with the French 49er World Champs for a full day of training, competition, and a bit of fun along the way. The day kicks off with a relaxed breakfast at the hotel alongside the rest of the French 49er squad—fueling up before a big day ahead. But it’s not straight to the water just yet… first stop: the golf course ⛳️ A friendly (and slightly competitive) round with teammates and the coach sets the tone. After that, it’s time to switch gears. A quick sandwich at the boat park to recharge, then straight into prep mode, rigging, tuning, and getting everything dialed in. Out on the water, things get serious. Intense training sessions focused on testing new equipment and sharpening boat handling skills as they prepare for the upcoming racing. Back ashore, it’s time for a debrief, breaking down the session, fine-tuning details, and planning the next steps. But the day’s not over yet… a bit of paddel to unwind 🎾 followed by a well-earned dinner at an Indian restaurant to wrap it all up. From early fuel-ups to late-night laughs, this is what it takes behind the scenes. 🎥 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more inside access to life on the 49er circuit!
