Want to see how to get out of the marina without hitting your neighbors? Last year, we got a video of us leaving the marina at Ft. Pierce, thanks to our friends on Ingenuity, Heidi, and Franny. We use a back-and-fill method along with our bow thruster to move Eoti sideways. Using the different means of propulsion, like engine, engine against rudder, bow thruster, working in tandem, and working in opposition, we can maneuver in tight places, get off the dock, and get clearance quickly. In this episode we set sail off the island of Simeulue in Indonesia, headed for Sumatra, in what we already knew was going to be pretty treacherous waters. But we had no idea that just on the other side of the island, a cyclone was forming, which they named Cyclone Senyar. It was some crazy conditions, with over 400 people dying in the area due to flooding and landslides. The craziest thing is that meteorologists had said it was impossible for a cyclone to form here, yet here we were... Greek Food, dancing, propeller, exhaust, huge crane, exercise, Karen in the engine room, retsina, saganaki, dolmas, Orion, dophins Thanks to suggestions from our wonderful viewers, we got a little more aggressive with polishing the propeller. It turns out it is bronze and now it looks really nice. There is a slight exhaust leak between the Cummins 4BT-3.9m engine flange where it connects to the riser that serves as the exit for exhaust. Steve has contacted both a mechanic who came to the boat and an exhaust professional via email. We’ve gotten two different strategies for properly sealing the flange to prevent further leakage. The situation still needs a bit more research on how to proceed before we decide exactly how to solve the issue, so stay tuned for an update in a later episode. We’re still working on some Greek dance moves and tried dancing on the dock instead of on deck. It’s a little easier, but the dock is floating so it also moves. Keeping with the Greek theme we had a wonderful meal with many traditional Greek foods. Fried saganaki cheese, dolmades (we just call them dolmas), hummus with pita bread and an olive feta cheese medley adorned our table. Some Retsina wine completed the menu. Perhaps that meal will improve our dancing???? It was interesting watching some construction on a new marina. Big cranes and dock sections. Speaking of traditions, we know all over the world there are different cultural traditions as the holiday season is upon us. Here, we will celebrate Christmas with the arrival of family members and friends. Hoping that all of you have a wonderful and safe holiday with lots of joy and the making of new fond memories. Salut les loulous ⚓⚓ On remonte sur Las Palmas pour éviter un coup de vent dans le sud . Le lendemain le vent est calmé et on fait plusieurs mouillages à l'est de Ténérif . Le dernier mouillage est terrible 20nds de vent et 1m de houle . On ne peux pas dormir et l'ancre dérape à cause des vagues qui font monter l'étrave à 80cm de haut , la chaîne tire violement et décroche . On rejette l'ancre à 11h du soir avec 40m de chaîne . After a summer of working daily on shore, weekend boat projects, and a few short sailing excursions, it is time to haul Eleutheros out of the water for the winter. We discover some interesting marine life on the bottom of the boat! The day before Mark takes his father and two brothers out for a short sail. He successfully sails off the dock but ends up in a bit of an incident! He ends up to close to shore because he wanted to give his family a close up view of the Bluenose II. While Mark was putting up the jib for extra power, Eleutheros was turned up to close to the wind and lost the speed necessary to tack which forced Mark to turn toward the shore to try to jibe but there was no room….

From engineering a custom trim to collect every drop of rainwater to creating enough surface area for over 3,000W of solar power, we’re pushing the limits of what a monohull can do. __________________________ We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
