Mark Grout, recent new member to RCSSC, enjoys a sail with Dave Grundy and Christine Peck on board Squib Satyr. Whilst Anne and Chris Brolly along with Marc Tebbutt sail Squib Lift Off. Later Eric Andrew swapped places with Anne and enjoyed an afternoon sail. Smiles all round after enjoying a fabulous sailing conditions and sights with winds F3- F4, wall to wall blue skies and sunshine. Rutland Sailing Club (RSC) were holding three events, including the Moth Open, so we had plenty to keep us interested and occupied as we sailed around the 3,100 acres of Rutland Water.

This week its more small keel boat racing. We join in with the Medway Yacht Club squib fleet and race 4, of their autumn series. We missed race one, competed in race 2, as your would have seen last week if your a regular viewer. Then race 3 was blown out with winds of over 40 knots and then by complete contrast, this week there are only 4 knots. So this is the story of what happened, or at least what happened to us. Our friends Nicki & Mattia joined us a for a week onboard Schiehallion. After stocking up with fresh fruit & vegetables, some water and petrol for the outboard we set off for some fishing a few miles offshore. Some electrical problems soon came to light but I managed to find a temporary solution and it didnt ruin our day. Mattia is a mad keen fisherman and soon had a good sized GT hooked. We'd decided to spent a few days anchored at the tiny uninhabited island of Do'o and cooked over a fire on the beach every evening. This week we're sailing from Sardinia to Menorca, Spain in the Balearic Islands and Brittni gets seasick during the passage. It was a quite the entertaining passage with Ryans cooking, Brittnis seasick, Jackson being Jackson, wind in all directions, bad swell, 1 knot of speed to 8 knots of speed, lets say it was an interesting sailing passage! After finishing a busy charter season on a super yacht, I fly to France to get a personal tour of the Lagoon catamaran factory in Bordeaux, by the director Thomas Gailly. This was a nerve wracking encounter as there was a bit of tension between us as a result of the whole bulkhead fiasco which had transpired since I showed my broken bulkhead series. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage to their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are ready to cross the pacific ocean soon! In order to give ourselves a larger engine bed and plenty of room to work, we're eating into our storage space by moving the bulkhead forward. We find ourselves doing more odd jobs lately, which only take a few minutes here and there, but always mean we're moving forward to the next thing. One of the bigger projects we took on though was defining the space for our engine bed. With the specific bulkhead placements from Max Cruise, we had originally started planning out the space for our engine bed based on what was in the drawings. But because we're still debating which direction we're going with propulsion, and we want to allow ourselves as much room as possible in that space, we've decided to make it bigger! And with Matt inside the area, you can also get a feel for how large the sleeping space will be in the aft bunk. We hated the original cockpit table and decided to rip it out and build a new one! We hand crafted a solid cherry cockpit table to replace the old worn out fiberglass original table for our catamaran sailboat. We decided to remove the inside table, so having a cockpit table is very important and we wanted a beautiful natural wood! Conditions could not have been better for day three of the 44Cup Scarlino World Championship. Blowing off mountainous Tuscany, the 20 knot offshore breeze was shifty and puffy. It caused numerous lead changed and seemed to favour no one. Thus, to make up the schedule after a lost opening day four races were held and each featured a different winner.
