Epic Navigator Welcome to Epic Navigator In this video, we are sailing in Antiparos, facing 40+ knots of headwind, during an extreme docking maneuver that leaves zero room for error. This is real-life seamanship, not theory. What youβll see in this video: Our first approach and the mistakes we made How strong headwind can be the most challenging for Cyclades Why standard docking techniques fail in extreme conditions Letting the boat drift with the wind instead of fighting it Using anchor tension to regain control and reposition the boat The final successful approach, explained step by step β This is the kind of situation every skipper may eventually face β especially during charter sailing or Mediterranean strong wind conditions. Epic Navigator Control Line Maneuver Explained β A Core Skill Every Advanced Skipper Must Master Welcome to Epic Navigator In this video, we break down one of the most critical boat-handling skills for advanced skippers: the correct use of the Control Line. The control line is the line we usually send ashore first, most commonly from the stern and on the windward side, allowing us to balance the yacht against the wind and fully control its movement. This technique enables precise positioning of the boat , giving us maximum control even in challenging conditions. What youβll learn in this video: -How and when to deploy the control line -Proper preparation of the line before throwing it ashore -The **lasso technique** for accurate and safe line handling -How to approach a quay using the control line -How to pivot and rotate the yacht around a fixed point (cleat/bit ashore) - Understanding and using the **pivot point** to control the boatβs movement This maneuver is a foundational skill for skippers who want to operate at a high technical level, whether on monohulls or catamarans. When power is extreme, technique is not important ππͺπͺ. To get a boat out of a sandbar the easiest and proper way is to pull it sideways from a halyard. In this case I was a bit sceptical to use it because the big momentum of OCEANIA could damage the rigging, but just when we were about to do it, Stavros the legendary Diver form Nea Peramos came for the rescue. #sailing #greece #docking #adventure #rescue
Epic Navigator In this video, we take you through a real-life challenge: freeing our anchor in the port of Perdika, Aegina, after it became trapped under two massive chains (18 mm) from a large motor yacht. From start to finish, youβll see the decision-making process, how we evaluated external guidance, and most importantly, how clear instructions were given to the crew onboard. This combination of external input and internal leadership allowed us to resolve what initially seemed like an impossible situation. This isnβt just about techniqueβitβs about teamwork, communication, and seamanship under pressure. π If you want to strengthen your own skills in anchoring, maneuvering, or single-handed sailing, check out our tailored training programs. Epic Navigato Opening a double-rudder monohull from alongside can be challenging β mainly because the prop wash never reaches the rudders. Instead of pushing the stern out when you turn the wheel, the prop wash goes straight between the two rudders, leaving you with almost zero steering authority. In todayβs video, Iβm showing you the most reliable and safe technique: π Using the opposite bow spring (opposite spring line) to control the bow π Creating controlled rotation without relying on the rudders π Keeping the stern clear and predictable, even in tight marinas Once you understand this method, double-rudder monohulls become much easier to maneuver. --- FULL TRAINING VIDEOS & EXCLUSIVE CONTENT For full, detailed maneuvering tutorials, slow-motion breakdowns, and real docking sessions, join the paid membership on the channel. --- Train with Epic Navigator β Real Hands-On Coaching** Hands-on training in: β’ Med Mooring β’ Alongside docking β’ Single-handed mastery β’ Leadership & seamanship β’ Real-world boat handling Check availability & book your training here: π https://epicnavigator.com/calendar/](https://epicnavigator.com/calendar/ --- Join the Newsletter Stay updated only about: β’ New training programs β’ New techniques β’ Important announcements π No spam. The majority of the accidents and damages are the result of bad preparation and bad habits. One of the worst habits is the passing through the line on the guardrail amd in general the complicated attachment of our lines and cables on the boat. The critical moment we want to release fast we will forget it and we will have unnecessary drama. We get a lot of negative criticism about using lines under tension, but we as sailors we should be able to do it as part of our routine and we have the proper technique for everything. Here you can see how we manage the lines under tension on the winches. #sailing #linehandling #docking #greece
A lot of people are struggling to keep a steady course and thatβs because they rely too much to the instruments. This is not wrong but it is a little bit advanced method and for the beginners it will help a lot to focus to the outside world, so our senses will understand the direction of the boat by correlating the elements of the nature around us. Follow please the rule 80% outside and 20% observing the instrument #sailing #greece #sailingtips #helmsman #competentcrew #dayskipper #navigation
In this video, we share the Epic Navigator opinion on why the furling mainsail can often be a smarter and more practical choice compared to the traditional hoisted mainsail. Just a few sailors they know this knit combination and very few can accept it as a knot without getting triggered, So I decided to name it the βtrigger Knotβ. I always say be open minded or stay average. #sailing #greece #knots #sailingtips #mediterranean #masterclass
