We thought, how hard could it be to take ourselves on an African safari? Turns out, when the trip starts with a dead battery, black smoke, and zero professional guidance, the answer is: pretty wild. From lions and giraffes to hippos and crocs, and even one very elusive leopard, we explored what felt like every inch of Uganda’s biggest national park.  It turns out the driving is half the adventure… and the boat safari to the base of Murchison Falls is the other half. 🚙🐘🦁🐆🌊 https://www.gonewiththewynns.com ☝Behind the Scenes, Gear Guides & More 📷 Photo & Video Gear 📷 https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/photo-video-gear 📱Socials INSTAGRAM: https://instagram.com/the_wynns/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/GoneWithTheWynns 📧EMAIL notifications, so you never miss a video🍦 http://bit.ly/gwtw-social 🎶 MUSIC for vids. 2 Months Free: https://bit.ly/artlist-GWTW 🎨 Creative Assets for Vids (SFX, Templates & Presets): - https://bit.ly/motion-array-GWTW 🎽GET YOUR SWAG ON: https://gonewiththewynns.teemill.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. We're back with part two of our Uganda series, and this one takes us even deeper into the country. Our destination? Teddy's home village in the Mindi district. Welcome to Giethoorn, Netherlands - a place so unique it feels like stepping into a fairy tale. This isn't some tourist attraction built for show... it's a real village where 2,800 people actually live, connected by 180 bridges and a network of canals that were accidentally created centuries ago. Behind the scenes, we've been planning and preparing for an epic trip to Uganda with some longtime friends from Texas. When we realized we'd have a layover in Amsterdam, we thought - why not finally check out this little fairytale village we'd heard so much about? We spent two incredible days exploring this car-free paradise. And I don't know if it was the water or the perfectly manicured landscapes, but I have never had a more beautiful or relaxing layover. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2010. But it's always been one or the other. Camper or sailboat. And now...well, we're aiming to do both simultaneously 🚐⛵. We’re building a stealthy little base camp on wheels while we're searching for our next floating home. Finding the right boat for what we have in mind will take time. But a base camp on wheels, that one is much easier. Mostly because we've owned, rented and borrowed enough campers to know what we do and don't want. And for this next chapter, we're sticking with the motto: Keep It Simple Stupid Stealth and Function Over Flash We prioritized adventure-ready functionality over Instagram-worthy aesthetics. The less attention, the better – especially when we're planning to take this thing through Central and potentially South America. Every decision was made with three things in mind: weight, simplicity, and getting us from one adventure to the next. Our van build is light, unique and wildly functional. But here's the fun twist, we're bringing a little boat logic into van life. It has saved us a ton of weight and money. However, only time will tell us how well blocks, lines and cleats work while off roading. In this video we are walking you through our very DIY, still-in-progress, van conversion. It’s rough and tough in all the right ways and filled with tiny hacks that make life on the move way more enjoyable. ---------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. Lucky us, he just so happened to have one of the most rare, custom and fastest catamarans on the water for sale. It's a used Schionning and if you've never heard of it, you're not alone! These unique performance cats are more common in the southern hemisphere. But even still, there are only about five on the market worldwide right now. Fortunately the owner of the boat was keen to take us out for a test sail. We hit an impressive 14+ knots of speed without even trying! ———— WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. We slipped deep into “cruiser mode,” embracing the rhythm of the sea, the wind, and a pace of life that moves with the tides. From getting shrimp pedicures in hidden caves to hosting rum tastings at sunset and freediving with turtles, this is the kind of slow living, connection and quiet joys that only the sea can offer. It feels as though every moment aboard Second Star is a reminder of why life at sea is so magical. It's been a much needed seafarers retreat. Throw in some ninja stealth silent motoring and moonlight sailing and it's about as close to perfection as a life at sea gets. So sit back, kick your feet up, grab a cold beverage and take a little virtual escape with us in the Exuma's. ___________________________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. And not just anywhere—we’re right where our very first big sailing adventure began almost nine years ago: the Bahamas. Only this time, we’re doing it aboard a vessel unlike anything we’ve ever sailed. We're so grateful to our lovely friends Beth and Paul for trusting us with their floating home! Especially because Second Star isn’t just any catamaran. She’s a Windelo—a marvel of modern marine engineering. With electric motors, massive solar panels, the biggest forward cockpit we’ve ever seen, and a hull made from volcanic basalt (yep, really). The Bahamas have welcomed us back with familiar faces, gin-clear water, and classic champagne sailing conditions—a much-needed reminder of why we fell in love with this lifestyle in the first place. Plus there’s something special about returning to our roots… even if the boat we’re on is from the future. ________________________________________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. We love chocolate and this is one of the most unique chocolate destinations we'd ever heard of...that curiosity is what brought us out to this Heirloom Cacao Farm. Most of us grow up thinking we know what it is. But the truth is kind of shocking—that sweet, familiar taste you've known your whole life? It’s a far cry from what the ancient Mayans and Aztecs considered a gift from the gods. Because chocolate was once the chosen ceremonial beverage. They believed it gave strength, vitality, and even mystical or hallucinogenic effects during ceremonies. (And they weren't far off! Cacao is packed with natural compounds like theobromine, magnesium, and antioxidants that boost mood, energy, and heart health.) But deep in the volcanic foothills of the Philippines, one family is preserving something truly rare: one of only 19 officially recognized heirloom cacao sites in the world. What we discovered there completely changed how we see (and taste) chocolate. We dive in a little deeper into the details on our website if you're curious: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com ___________________________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. We're hitting the water to see exactly what our electric setup can handle while doing all the things we normally do: exploring coastlines, finding snorkel spots, and getting into a bit of trouble (because what's an adventure without something unexpected?). We hadn't intended on a "tool time" segment but then again, we never do.  But hey, we said we wanted this to be a "normal" day of cruising…and getting things stuck up your intake is about as normal as it gets.  Right?!  Plus Jason somehow volunteered himself for a man overboard drill at 17 knots!  It's a good reminder not to make statements you aren't willing to back up.  His pucker effect and landing was… well, you'll see. We share our honest thoughts on "range anxiety," all our data collected and even which speeds give us the most efficient performance. ____________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Things We're Most Curious About... GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community.
