After weeks exploring the remote wilderness of Svalbard, it is finally time to begin the long journey south. In this episode of Expedition Svalbard, we sail more than 550 nautical miles across the Barents Sea on our return passage from the High Arctic back to Tromsø in northern Norway. The voyage home is a careful balance of sailing and motoring as we work with changing Arctic weather conditions. Long watches, fuel calculations and shifting wind forecasts shape each decision on board as we guide our sailing yacht steadily south towards mainland Norway. At times the sea is glassy calm and we motor gently through the Arctic waters. At other moments the wind builds and we reef the sails as the boat surges forward at speed. Dolphins, whales and vast open horizons accompany us along the way as we leave the islands of Svalbard behind. While the miles pass beneath the keel, we reflect on the extraordinary places we experienced during the expedition — drifting icebergs, remote polar landscapes and rare wildlife such as walrus and polar bears. We also visited the unique communities that exist in this harsh environment, including Longyearbyen, Barentsburg and the historic research station of Ny-Ålesund. The return voyage is both demanding and reflective. After 33 days away, sailing back into the familiar waters of Tromsø marks the end of an unforgettable Arctic expedition. Today we explore one of the most unique places we've discovered while sailing in Thailand. We start the morning anchored off Bang Bao on Koh Kood, heading ashore in search of breakfast at a beautiful beachfront resort. Unfortunately… no luck. So we raise the sails and head around the island looking for our next adventure. What we find is incredible. On the far side of the island we discover a traditional Thai village built entirely over the water, stretching out along a long pier. Above the village sits a giant golden Buddha statue watching over the bay and protecting the fishermen and their families below. We climb the hill to visit the Buddha, explore the floating village, and enjoy some delicious (and incredibly cheap) local food while taking in the views. Thailand never stops surprising us. In this episode Mark will be laying out and cutting out the bow and stern transoms. Mark will be assembling frames, setting them up on the strong back and fairing the bottom frames to accept planking. Winter on the hard has to be the hardest thing for a sailboat. Months of sitting motionless and covered with snow and ice. Worse than that, is the effect it has on the sailor, who must endure the long cold nights. So, instead of sailing Mark spends his spare time building our new wooden dinghy for Eleutheros. Salut les loulous 🏝️🐟 Après la visite d’une usine de gaz où sont remplies les bouteilles, nous partons nous balader dans les montagnes sauvages et verdoyantes de Hierro. Très vite, le décor change : des pentes abruptes couvertes de végétation, des sentiers qui serpentent entre les rochers et, au loin, l’océan qui scintille sous le soleil. La randonnée est magnifique. L’air est pur, le silence presque total, seulement troublé par le vent et quelques oiseaux. Un vrai moment hors du temps. De retour au bateau, chacun s’active tranquillement aux préparatifs du départ. On en profite pour faire un dernier lavage de linge, qui sèche rapidement au vent tiède des Canaries. Les dernières vérifications sont faites à bord : avitaillement, météo, matériel… l’excitation du départ commence à se faire sentir. Le 4 mars 2026, nous larguons les amarres et quittons les Canaries pour entamer une traversée d’environ 750 milles nautiques en direction du Cap-Vert. Très vite, l’océan nous rappelle que nous sommes bien en mer. Les premières journées sont animées : un vent établi entre 20 et 25 nœuds pousse le bateau avec énergie, tandis qu’une mer bien formée fait rouler la coque au rythme des vagues. Le bateau file, parfois en surf sur les crêtes écumeuses. Abbiamo lasciato Y2K a Scarborough per un road trip verso il cantiere di Bundaberg: è arrivato il momento di organizzare i lavori alla carena (rimozione coppercoat, trattamento antiosmosi e antivegetativa). Через два с половиной года мы подняли нашу лодку на сушу! Процесс подъема всегда волнительный и долгий. Мы сделали видео в режиме #таймлапс, чтобы уместить весь день в 5 минут. Вначале нужно было поставить лодку под подъёмный кран. Затем закрепить поднять, помыть и установить на подпорки. Потом привязать лестницу, опустить якорь и убрать навесные аксессуары на палубу. Теперь нам предстоит прожить почти месяц на суше и полностью подготовить нашу красавицу к новому сезону! Это первый Эпизод, но не последний ⛵😉 #море #яхта #яхтинг

This is Part 2 of our Sydney to Gold Coast boat delivery – and the miles really start to add up. After reaching Port Stephens, we set off on the long run north toward the Gold Coast. The remaining journey would push us through a couple of gruelling 30-hour legs, plenty of night sailing, and – as seems to follow the ARGO crew everywhere – more squalls and storms. At one point the wind really switched on during a night sail and we found ourselves absolutely flying. Even with three reefs in the main and just a handkerchief of jib, the boat was rocketing along through the dark. Not that we were alone out there. For long stretches we were escorted by dolphins riding the bow wave – something that never gets old no matter how many miles you sail. And in one completely unexpected moment, we even had a low fly-over from two fighter jets that certainly woke the crew up and had the obligatory calls of “negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full”! The final leg north brought bigger seas, with much of the day spent running in 2–3 metre swell rolling in behind us. It’s exhilarating surfing down those waves – but a little intimidating seeing that wall of water chasing you along. Of course, when it came time to pull the mainsail down, we had to turn straight back into it. Howie headed onto the cabin top (tethered in, thankfully) while the bow climbed and fell over the swell. As we tipped over the edge of one wave he reckons it stood at least 5 metres high – maybe 8 if you ask him – before we clawed our way back up and finally turned to run for home. All up, the trip covered 463 nautical miles over 82 sailing hours. An incredible experience, a lot learned along the way, and even better to share it with good friends. Now… sleep.
