Le radar est clairement devenu un membre indispensable de l’équipage pendant nos longues traversées ⛵️ Depuis qu’on a appris à vraiment bien l’utiliser, il nous aide énormément et soulage beaucoup la veille, surtout pendant les navigations de nuit. Mais honnêtement… le réglage du radar, ce n’est pas du tout intuitif au début 😅 Quand on a commencé, on réglait notre zone de garde très près du bateau. Dans notre tête, ça semblait logique : prévenir le danger quand il est juste à côté. Sauf qu’en pratique, dès qu’il y avait un peu de houle, notre radar détectait les vagues juste autour du bateau et ça bipait NON STOP 🔊 Même en essayant plein de réglages dans les paramètres, on n’arrivait pas à éviter ça. Et puis avec l’expérience, on a appris à l’utiliser plus intelligemment. Sur notre Raymarine Quantum Doppler Radar, la zone très proche du bateau (environ 0,5 mile) est souvent un peu “fondue” avec les mouvements de la mer. Du coup, notre première zone de garde commence juste après cette distance. Ensuite, on ajoute une deuxième zone de garde beaucoup plus loin au large, qu’on enlève généralement en côtier ou quand il y a énormément de trafic. Au final, c’est le réglage qui nous convient le mieux aujourd’hui, et on n’a jamais eu de souci avec cette méthode pendant toute notre navigation jusqu’aux Îles Canaries 🌍 ⚠️ Évidemment, chacun utilise son radar comme il le souhaite : ça, c’est simplement notre expérience et notre façon de faire. At the same time, the use of carbon bulkheads in series has helped keep the weight estimate at 10.5 t. We discover brighter, clearer layouts (many openings have been added and/or enlarged) and far more careful finishing - overall, it is undeniably more welcoming. The sail plan has remained faithful to that of the 50, which translates into unchanged speed potential. With 15 knots of wind during our downwind run off Groix, the 52.2 #1 sold to a couple of Americans managed an average of 8.5 knots upwind (55° from the actual wind). We thought we only need a bottom clean in the water. Turns out the bottom was in dire need of some barnacle removal and we were about to lose the wing engine propellor. No clickbait here, no fancy music or exaggerated drama. This video is a "real" life example of how plans change while boating and living aboard full time.

Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Seitdem lag Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hatte begonnen. Am 17 August 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Obwohl Squib noch nicht ganz fertig ist, werfen wir die Leinen los und starten unsere erste Etappe donauabwärts. Dreieinhalb Wochen später erreichen wir das Donaudelta, der Mast wird gestellt, ein passendes Wetterfenster abgewartet, in zwei Sclägen überqueren wir das Schwarze Meer bis zum Bosporus. Ohne Einzuklarieren mit gehisster Q Flagge durchqueren wir die Türkei und erreichen 5 Tage später die Ägäis. Über Limnos und die nördlichen Sporaden segeln wir bis in den Großraum Athen, von wo aus Sabina nach Hause fliegt, weil ihr Urlaub zu Ende ist.
