After a long Arctic winter in Finnsnes, it is finally time to slip the lines and begin a new sailing season in Northern Norway. In this episode, we say goodbye to the small winter community that formed around the harbour, leave Finnsnes behind, and head south along the spectacular Norwegian coast. Spring has arrived early in Arctic Norway: the snow is melting, the days are growing longer, and the familiar feeling of movement returns. ⚓ Ist das aktuell einer der besten Marine LiFePO4 Akkus am Markt? Ich teste den Humsienk 640Ah Smart Edition Akku auf meiner Segelyacht Scirocco — und das Ergebnis hat mich ehrlich überrascht. Nach einem vollständigen Kapazitätstest konnte ich unglaubliche 672Ah entnehmen, bevor das BMS abgeschaltet hat. Damit liefert der Akku sogar mehr Kapazität als angegeben. Mellan alla förberedelser försöker vi också njuta av platsen: pelikaner, tvättbjörnar och sengångare dyker upp runt oss, vi testar färskt sockerrör, flyr hettan med AC-pauser i shoppingcenter och tar en välbehövlig chilldag på Taboga Island. Free power and unlimited water on the UK's canals? As sailors on the open oceans, we lived completely independently. We created our own power and produced our own water. It was a lifestyle we've been wanting to replicate on the canals of the UK, and now that we're continuous cruisers, we have achieved this. In fact, we are producing so much power we don't know what to do with it, and so much water we can shower every day - not that we do! We do all of this as we continue eastwards along the Stainforth and Keadby Canal towards the River Trent. Along the way, we encounter Maud's Swing Bridge, which appears to be broken, and the Crook O’Moor Swing Bridge at Medge Hall before tying up at Groves Farm. We’ve been doing this for about six years now and we’re still enjoying the heck out of sailboat life. Looking out at the water from the cockpit is one of the many pleasures of boat life. Making sure that’s a crystal clear view, Karen cleans the Strataglass. She carefully removed any dirt with a wet cloth and then applied some IMAR protective cleaner. The effect is dazzling. As Karen does yoga Steve feels the impulse to recite poetry. After a few stretching exercises, she does some jumping jacks and windmills. It’s always more fun to exercise on the deck than at the gym; although, sometimes it can be more of a challenge as the boats moves in the water. This week we continue to troubleshoot the rotten engine room bulkhead that we found when we removed our fuel tank to be welded. The contractors come and do a great job of welding a new bottom on the tank, but will it pass the pressure test? SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing through Asia and planning to cross the Indian Ocean!! After nearly a month anchored between Johor Bahru and Singapore, our ex-Vendée Globe race boat had become painfully slow. Ahead of us lay more than 500 nautical miles through the Singapore Strait and the Malacca Strait — some of the busiest shipping lanes anywhere in the world — and almost immediately we realised something was seriously slowing NV down. What we discovered underneath the boat was not exactly ideal… With huge tankers all around us, murky water, strong currents, and even the possibility of crocodiles, Timo jumps into the water to try to scrape enough growth from the hull to get us moving again. Meanwhile, the boys continue learning the ropes of boat life, with Nemo teaching Tao knots while we clean a carpet of black mussels from the dinghy too.
