► Founded just five years ago, the Astus Boat Club association now brings together around 60 Astus trimaran owners and has recently introduced a Trophy system rewarding participation and results in various regattas open to multihulls rated under the Multi 2000 rule. ► In this context, Pierre Breban, president of the association, invited me to take part as media crewman aboard the Golfe Morbihan Tour, an event particularly technical when it comes to current management. Currents can be extremely strong in this area, while numerous counter-currents can be found close to beaches, headlands, and rocks. ► So I joined Jean-Hubert Pommois, head of the shipyard, aboard his Astus 26.5, together with Jérôme, our helmsman. Organized by the SRV (Société des Régates de Vannes), this regatta is unique in that it brings together highly diverse fleets: classic rigs, foiling boards, monohull cruisers, dinghies, and of course cruising multihulls - 63 entries in total! ► Six Astus boats were entered in the cruising multihull category: four Astus 20.5s, one older-generation Astus 22, in addition to our Astus 26.5. Day 11 of our sail from the USA to South America… and today feels like a real turning point. The last glimpse of land disappears behind us as we head further offshore with nothing but ocean ahead. After barely any wind and carefully watching our fuel levels, we finally start to feel the conditions changing as stronger breeze begins to fill in and we edge closer to the trade winds. Along the way we dodge huge cargo ships crossing our path, celebrate Tom’s 40th birthday at sea, and get an incredible visit from dolphins riding the bow of Escapade. The 56-metre Alea was designed by Mani Frers and delivered in 2022. Intended for world cruising in indulgent comfort, a reverse bow gives this sailing superyacht a distinctive and dynamic exterior profile. Her long waterline length is paired with a sloop rig sized to Panamax proportions – allowing her to clear the Bridge of the Americas over the Panama Canal. A lifting keel reduces the draft from 6.6m to 3.5m, and this is partnered by twin carbon rudders. Her sail wardrobe includes a 682sqm mainsail and 484sqm blade headsail. Her interior was penned by Milan-based studio ‘M2Atelier’. Open spaces and privacy were paramount, as was a generously-sized owner’s suite and an overall sense of simplicity. Innovative features at the time of her build included retractable V-bollards on deck, V-drums to simplify headsail changes, and a submarine anchor system. A huge lazarette houses an 8-metre tender, with stowage for a smaller model in the foredeck. Video by Guy Fleury

At the International Paint Poole Regatta 2026 the class winners picked up their prizes, and then the winner of the prestigious Canford Cup was announced. This is amongst the oldest sailing trophies in the world, predating the America’s Cup by two years, and first awarded in 1849. The winner was announced as Sam Laidlaw and his team on ‘Aguila’, who became the first two-time winner of the trophy.

L’atleta in forza alla Marina Militare, che era arrivato a un passo dal podio alle Olimpiadi di Marsiglia nel 2024 (maledetto quarto posto!), si è ripreso subito dalla delusione francese dimostrando tempra e talento da fuoriclasse: è lui la nostra speranza di medaglia in vista dei Giochi di Los Angeles 2028. Il 2025, per Pianosi, è stato l’anno da ricordare anche sul piano personale: si è sposato con Giorgia Speciale, l’asso del windsurf che oggi è passata al kite. Curiosità: è la prima volta che un Velista dell’Anno si sposa… con una Velista dell’Anno.
