On longe la côte portugaise dans une fenêtre météo parfaite pour passer le cap Saint-Vincent, mais la tête reste toujours en alerte. Chaque aileron qu’on aperçoit nous fait sursauter. Ce qui ressemblait à une orque s’est finalement révélé être une baleine… mais le cœur nous a arrêté deux secondes. Avec toutes les notifications d’attaques qui tombent, la navigation est belle et stressante à la fois. On arrive à Cascais avec une extinction de voix, épuisés, juste avant que le vent se lève fort. A fish tale, Greek dancing, lights, exercise, propeller, comments and more. Come on aboard and join us! This time on Sailing Intermission, our aft reverse cycle unit stopped producing warm air. No fun as the temperatures are beginning to drop. Low and behold, for the aft unit, it was a fish that had been sucked up into the hose feeding the strainer preventing needed water flow. How big of a fish? Check it out in the video around the 7:00 mark. Now, we’re nice and toasty. Steve finished the rear sail locker stairs that he started making in the previous video. They made it so much easier getting into and out of that sail locker. Even Karen can pop out of the locker easily. We address some of y’all’s comments/questions from previous episodes. On descend jusqu'à Pasito Blanco pour visiter les dunes de Maspalomas . Living on a boat full-time is intense — refits, family life, tight spaces, and constant jobs never really stop. But part of sailing around the world with our kids is wanting them to experience more than just anchorages. After spending a full year in Borneo — a place that will always be part of our story, as it’s where our baby Tao was born — we finally left the boat behind for a few days to explore one of the most iconic and wild places in Malaysian Borneo: the Kinabatangan River. With our boat safely left in Kota Kinabalu and Timo staying onboard to finish last-minute jobs before we set sail, we flew to Sandakan and travelled by boat deep into the Kinabatangan wetlands. This incredible river is one of the last remaining wildlife corridors in Borneo, home to orangutans, proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, hornbills, crocodiles, and so much more. We stayed at Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort, a remote jungle lodge only accessible by river, and spent our days exploring by boat, spotting wildlife, learning about conservation, and soaking up a world completely different from life at sea. Cruising life also means long stretches without seeing family, so sharing this adventure with my brother, his wife, and our kids made it even more special. This episode is a reminder that while boat life is an incredible adventure, sometimes you leave the boat to truly understand the place you’re sailing through. La Maruzza, la mia piccola barca a vela di meno di 7 metri, è finalmente pronta per una nuova rotta: questa volta punto dritto verso l’Oceano Atlantico, tra orche, onde profonde e orizzonti che sembrano non finire mai. Una navigazione che mi porterà verso Madeira, Canarie e le affascinanti Isole Selvagge, alla scoperta di acque lontane e poco battute. Negli ultimi mesi ho vissuto un intenso viaggio in solitario lungo le coste proibite del Nord Africa: dalla Tunisia al Marocco, passando per l’Algeria, un Paese enigmatico e quasi invisibile alle rotte turistiche del Mediterraneo. Burocrazia, controlli continui e mille difficoltà hanno reso questa avventura un vero banco di prova, ma il diario di bordo che ne è nato è qualcosa di unico. Ho incontrato persone straordinarie, ospitali, autentiche: un’umanità che pensavo scomparsa. Ora si riparte. Tra poche settimane tornerò in Marocco con tutta l’attrezzatura necessaria per preparare la Maruzza a una traversata verso mari che non conosco ancora. Day -1 Daily Highlight | Youth Sailing World Championships – Vilamoura Day -1 in Vilamoura was all about setting the scene for an incredible week ahead. The Youth Sailing World Championships officially kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony, featuring a parade of nations as 424 sailors and 166 coaches marched country by country, followed by group photos on stage, a dance performance, and a flash mob that brought the night to life. Earlier in the day, we spent time at Vilamoura Marina, visiting Casa Portugal, the VIP lounge, and had the chance to chat with David Graham, CEO of World Sailing, and World Sailing President Quanhai Li about the championship and what it means for the future of youth sailing. Today is a training day, with the first day of racing starting on the 15th. Six months ago, we bought a sailboat… even though we barely knew how to sail. We’re Camille and Jesse — an American & Australian couple who quit a “normal” life, lived in a car, and worked in the Australian mines for a year and a half just to save every dollar for one dream: buying a sailboat and learning as we go.
