Day 42 & 43 of the 75 Hard Challenge and still going strong! 💪 Apologies for combining two days into one video, but yesterday turned into another really busy one onboard. Despite that, everything still got completed — workouts, water, reading, diet, and progress photos. No excuses. This morning started with a kettlebell workout followed by a 20-minute run session, while Jen continued smashing her Couch to 10K programme on the track. Both of us are feeling stronger, fitter, and more focused as we move further into the challenge. One of the biggest lessons from 75 Hard is that discipline starts replacing motivation. You stop negotiating with yourself and simply get things done, even on the busy or difficult days. That mindset shift alone makes this challenge worth it. If you’re doing 75 Hard alongside us, keep pushing forward one day at a time. This is the maiden voyage of a round boat called ROCINANTE! In preparation for a 10 day river rafting trip, we took the round boat out to shake her down. What better way to do it than with your brother-in-laws on a perfect spring day! The Main Payette River is a classic Idaho whitewater river with plenty of pool and drop rapids ranging from Class II to Class III. It is an ideal training ground for kayakers and the perfect stretch for families and first-time rafters. We put-in at Banks which sits at the confluence of the Payette’s North Fork and South Fork.

Day 7 at sea. Today was one of those days where you learn an important lesson. I woke up to my AIS alarm going off and ran outside to see a boat way too close for comfort. Big waves, strong winds, dark conditions… not exactly the kind of thing you want to wake up to half asleep. I called them on the radio straight away to make sure we both knew where the other one was and what we were doing. In the end, I changed course to avoid any risk of collision. And honestly, it shook me a bit. One thing I’m really realizing out here is how vulnerable you are as a small boat. Even if you technically have right of way, that doesn’t mean the other boat sees you properly. And it definitely doesn’t guarantee they’ll follow the rules. What frustrated me most was that they never called me. If they had called and said, “Hey, we’re struggling to see you, what’s your plan?” that would’ve been completely different. But there was nothing. And if my AIS alarm hadn’t woken me up… this could have gone very differently. So today made me very grateful for that alarm system. But it was also a reminder that just because other boats have professional crews onboard, it doesn’t automatically mean everything is under control. People make mistakes. People miss things. And it also reminded me of my own responsibility out here. I’m sailing solo. I am vulnerable. If something happens, I’m the one in trouble. And technically, I’m supposed to keep watch at all times… but at some point, I also need to sleep. This time, everything turned out okay. After months of waiting, my new catamaran finally leaves the dock for her first sail and sea trial! We start the day getting off the dock and heading out for the yacht’s first real test on the water. Before putting her fully through her paces, we sail over to the lee of an island to test the anchor, lower the Highfield dinghy, and take it for a quick run. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Sailing Doodles sea trial without a little chaos — Cougar decides to jump off the dinghy into the water, and I have to turn around to rescue him. Then it’s time for the big moment: we pull up the anchor, roll out the sails, and see how this new production catamaran actually performs. I was honestly really happy with the results. We managed 6.8 knots of boat speed in 11.7 knots of wind, which is about half wind speed — pretty impressive for a production cruising catamaran. This was the first real sail on my new yacht, and I think a lot of people will be surprised by how well she performs. Thanks for watching Sailing Doodles!
