Sometimes you just need a breather. We paused at Black Point for a Practical Sailor interview, then pushed on to Big Farmers to tackle overdue cleaning and soak up some peace. Recorded March 8 & 9, 2025. She Tells Sea Tales is an annual event by Northwest Maritime that provides a welcoming and safe space for all women to share their connections to water. Proceeds from the event help support the Northwest Maritime’s women- and girls-centered educational maritime programs, including the Girls’ Boat Project. Join us in Port Townsend on March 7, 2026 for the next edition of this beloved event. Susan has lived on two continents, sailed on two oceans, and lived in two genders. They have spent their life working as a deckhand mate and captain on the schooners Pride of Baltimore, Charlotte Ann, Lady Maryland, Woodwind and Sultana, as well as many Chesapeake Bay traditional workboats. Susan was a shipwright, calker and rigger on the building of the Lady Maryland and the Pride of Baltimore II, and the Kalmar Nyckel, as well as the restoration of the Gazela Primeiro and the USS Constitution. In 2018 they began working for the schooner Adventuress in their office here in Port Townsend, and in 2021 they were the recipient of Tall Ships America’s - Lifetime Achievement award. Susan is now enjoying retirement in Port Townsend with her soulmate of 43 years Cindy. 🌍 Épisode 42 - Béquia au mouillage 😅 pas le temps se niaiser 😂 Nous nous retrouvons au matin même de notre arrivée à Bequia, au cœur des Grenadines, et l’aventure continue dans une ambiance 100 % conviviale 🌴⛵ Direction la plage pour un barbecue avec les bateaux copains, suivi d’une partie de pétanque improvisée sur le sable, rires et bonne humeur garantis. De retour au bateau, la fin de journée nous offre un magnifique coucher de soleil, comme seuls les Caraïbes savent le faire. Dans cet épisode, nous partons aussi pour une randonnée inoubliable en compagnie de nos amis du bateau Ilot (Audrey et Fred, avec leurs enfants) ainsi que Pol, le copain de Mathis du bateau Marant. Objectif : le Spring View Park, un point de vue spectaculaire sur les hauteurs de Bequia 📍✨ Après cette belle marche, retour au bateau à la tombée de la nuit… avec, une fois encore, un coucher de soleil exceptionnel. This shows an autopilot that is decoupled from the helm. There is a big advantage to this, in that you can put your hands through the helm wheel, and if the autopilot is turning the boat, the wheel is not turning simultaneously. Thus it does not hurt your hand or cause a safety issue. One thing to be careful of however is that if you forget that the auto pilot is on and you try to turn the helm, the boat will not steer. This could freak you out a little. So just be aware of that when using a decoupled auto pilot.
