Five years ago, we didn’t know how to sail. During the pandemic, we started watching sailing videos on YouTube, escaping night after night to warm water and open horizons. What began as a nightly ritual slowly became something more. Our first lesson was on a small lake in central Iowa, a J/24 in light wind, quiet water. Since then, we haven’t stopped learning. In January, we’re taking our first blue-water trip: Grenada. This video is a look back at where we started, and a look forward to where we’re headed. If you’re curious about learning to sail later in life, dreaming about cruising, or just love stories about ordinary people doing bold things—welcome aboard 😉👍⛵ Shout out to the University of Iowa Sailing Club - You forever changed our course!

Trade your snow shovel for a snorkel! This festive Trop Rock anthem, "Caribbean Christmas Anchor Drop," captures the magic of celebrating the holidays far from the cold, anchored securely in the warm, blue waters of the Caribbean. Featuring a relaxed Acoustic Guitar and the bright sound of the Steel Drum, this song pairs gentle male and female vocals with a smooth Trumpet Solo that drifts over the waves. But don't let the mellow vibe fool you—we've laid down a VERY HEAVY SUB BASS IN THE 20HZ RANGE to give this tropical tune a deep, resonant backbone! ⛵ Life on the Hook for the Holidays From the Leewards to the Windwards shore, this song is a tribute to the cruising life. It’s about Sailing long miles, Mainsail furled, and finding peace and community on the hook, where Santa trades his sleigh for a big outboard to deliver cheer to every anchored boat. It's the best darn Christmas in this tropical town!
You know the struggle: trying to cook a holiday feast in a tiny boat galley! This Instrumental Rap-Rock track captures the energetic chaos and fun of preparing Christmas dinner on the water, featuring a heavy beat, Reggae Skank Guitar, and a deep, driving 20 Hz Sub Bassline that will make your speakers rock the boat! This anthem is dedicated to all the sailors and cruisers battling small spaces, One-Butt Kitchens, and high humidity to make those holiday memories. From chopping peppers to mixing up a tropical drink, it’s all about hustle, flow, and the best Caribbean holiday vibe! 🎶 The Sound: Genre: Instrumental Rap-Rock with a Tropical/Reggae Feel Style: Energetic Drums, Deep 20 Hz Sub-Bass, Heavy Distorted Guitar Riff, Reggae Skank Guitar, Ocean/Waves Sound Effects. ⚓ The Cruiser Life Struggle We’re trading snow for blue water and the grand hall for our humble sailboat. This track is inspired by the reality of galley life—the lack of counter space, the search for cold relief for that frosty drink, and the pure joy when Danielle’s incredible recipes (like that mango salad blend) actually come together! It’s Christmas on our own terms, defying tradition right on the water line.
Join the holiday cheer from the anchorage in Luperón, Dominican Republic, with this upbeat Sea Shanty twist on a tropical Christmas tune! Written from the perspective of cruising sailors, "Luperón Christmas (Salt and Sticky)" captures the unique experience of spending the holidays in the Caribbean Sea. Expect Island Steel Drums, a deep Upright Bass line (with heavy 20 Hz sub-bass emphasis!), lively percussion, and a cheerful Male/Female Duet. This song is a toast to all the cruisers trading snow for sunshine, eggnog for a frosty Presidente Light, and embracing the salt and sticky life on the sacred cruising ground! 🎶 The Sound: Genre: Caribbean Sea Shanty Christmas Style: Upright Bass, Deep Sub-Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Upbeat, Percussion, Island Steel Drum, Male/Female Duet. 📍 About the Song: Luperón, on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic (D.R.), is a famous hurricane hole and cruising destination where sailors gather closely—even for Christmas! This track gives a nod to the local culture, the community of fellow cruisers, and the occasional frustrations (like Customs officials!) that come with island life. It’s a heartfelt holiday greeting from our temporary home.

New Zealand delivers – once again. This video shows the iFLY RAZZOR Pro sailed in one of the world’s most iconic foiling environments: the Hauraki Gulf, with Rangitoto Island in the background, just off Auckland’s North Shore, New Zealand. The boat is sailed by highly skilled sailors — including Olympic Gold Medalist and New Zealand national champion Jo Aleh during a dedicated Masterclass Foiling Session — as well as by an experienced A-Cat sailing couple sending it hard during their very first time on the iFLY. The iFLY RAZZOR Pro is sailed both single-handed and double-handed, pushed in real conditions. The focus is clear and uncompromising: speed, control, flight stability, and confidence under load. With the large rig fully powered, the iFLY RAZZOR Pro demonstrates what modern hydrofoil sailing is about: • sustained foiling upwind and downwind • high-speed runs under load • stable flight through changing wind and sea state • predictable, confidence-inspiring handling at speed A key feature on display is the iFLY Mainfoil Differential Technology (MDT – Rake Control), allowing the sailor to actively manage foil trim and righting moment. This provides precise control when sailing fully powered and at the limit. At the same time, the Flysafe® Intelligent Foil Control System operates quietly in the background, continuously stabilising flight height and pitch. The result: a boat that can be pushed hard while remaining composed, safe, and controllable. Throughout the session, numerous New Zealand sailors are seen foiling fast, wild, and confident — yet always in control — surrounded by the raw beauty of the Hauraki Gulf. No staging, no exaggeration: just real sailors, real conditions, and real foiling. The footage shows the iFLY doing exactly what it was designed for: fast, controlled foiling — sailed by people who know how to use it. New Zealand’s sailing culture, skill level, and unique conditions underline the true capabilities of the boat. In the final minutes, we share some of the magic of Rangitoto Island — the iconic volcano rising from the Gulf. Enjoy the ride. 😎 More information about the iFLY RAZZOR Pro: 👉 http://www.iFLYsail.com/ iFLY RAZZOR Pro — We love SPEED, while keeping CONTROL.

Sadik has already completed an Atlantic circuit, returning via Greenland and sailing his Garcia Explocat 52 #8 in a wide range of wind and sea conditions. Alternating between an intimate interview and spectacular drone footage, this video shares his experience with this aluminum bluewater catamaran in real-world cruising. From the trade winds route across the Atlantic to shallow Bahamian waters, from the ice-filled fjords of Greenland to the dramatic coasts of the Caribbean, the Faroe Islands and Scotland, Sadik has tested his boat in both calm and heavy weather. He talks about sailing in more than 40 knots of wind, maneuvering close to icebergs, and living on board in remote, harsh environments. In this video, Sadik explains: ➤ Why he chose an aluminum catamaran for bluewater cruising ➤ How the Explocat 52 combines performance and safety in rough seas ➤ What “peace of mind” truly means when you are far from any shelter ➤ The level of comfort on board, even in cold and inhospitable regions Climb aboard for an honest and insightful owner’s perspective on life with a Garcia Explocat 52 #8, and discover what makes this expedition catamaran a trusted partner for serious offshore adventures. Day 37, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: we’re heading towards the equator. I switch my damaged batteries to charge battery 3 hoping to bring it back to life. I 5200 holes in my sailor suit. And tell Casper it’s time to focus on the sail. It’s August 30th, 2025. We’re mid Atlantic, finally south of the ITCZ, heading towards the equator. 1,936 miles from The start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again. ► We already encountered BlueNav at the La Rochelle boat show, but we saw them again at Metstrade, this time with not one, but two new products designed to consolidate their electric propulsion ecosystem: the BlueNav app and the Precision+ GPS. ► The app now allows for more precise control in the 0-5 knot range, where most close-quarter maneuvers take place. Hugo, whom we met at the booth, describes a system capable of maintaining a chosen position and moving the boat in increments of about twenty centimeters (8 inches). This virtual anchoring mode opens up interesting possibilities for approaches from the bow or stern of a multihull, or in areas where lateral movement has to remain very precise. ► GPS Precision+ is the other new product. This multi-constellation GNSS receiver (Galileo, GPS, Glonass) aims to stabilize the course and position during slow maneuvers, where generic GPS devices struggle to provide a clear signal. Its compact size (16 cm / 6.3 in., approx. 600 g / 1.3 lbs) makes it easy to integrate, while improving the quality of the data sent to the control system. Using the GPS Precision+ aboard a multihull therefore immediately results in better position holding. ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Freedom 45 CC Used Boat Review: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sailboat-reviews/sailboats-over40ft/freedom-45-cc-used-boat-review The Bluewater 56 is one of the most misunderstood offshore cruisers in the sailing world — and today we’re diving deep into what makes this German Frers design so special. Built at the highly respected Hansheng yard in China and descended from the legendary Hylas 56 and Outbound 56, this boat combines serious ocean pedigree with modern construction, incredible strength, and a layout made for real passagemaking. In this video, we break down the hull design, the Twaron aramid reinforcement (yes, the “Kevlar-type stuff”), watertight bulkheads, the skeg-supported rudder, the cutter rig, the systems, the customization options, and the boat’s complex but fascinating lineage. We also take a clear look at reported problems (or lack thereof) and what buyers should pay close attention to if they're considering one of these long-range machines. If you’ve ever wondered whether the Bluewater 56 is truly “overbuilt,” why it has such a loyal following, or whether it belongs on your circumnavigation shortlist, this episode will tell you everything you need to know. One of the most iconic spots on Skiathos is Lalaria Beach, on the north coast. This beach is only accessible by boat and is characterized by white pebbles, high cliffs, and a natural rock arch. In calm northern conditions, it is a magical place to anchor or to sail by slowly. The water here is an intense blue and crystal clear—an absolute highlight when seen from the boat.
One of the sails we like to use on Horizon, is the Code Zero. It goes all the way from the front to the end and is very suitably for light winds, because it had 80m2 to cover. We took our drone up in the air, and you can see the main sail + Code Zero sail at work while sailing on the Aegan Sea in Greece!

The small islet of Peristera, which is part of Alonissos (the Sporades island group), has a shipwreck that is partly underwater and partly visible above the surface. We went there, jumped into the crystal-clear water with our snorkeling gear, and saw the ship underwater using our GoPro. Lots of fish and rusted parts. We found it a fascinating sight! And with the drone, we had an even better view of the shipwreck.
In this episode we reach our most northerly destination for 2025 - the famous and beautiful Lizard Island, where we start checking out the beaches, reefs and walks it offers. Music Credits Music by Bensound.com License code: JI4XYPYFGO34R5IR Artist: : Benjamin Tissot
We leave Malta with great wind, high spirits, and hopes of catching our first fish in a long time. The Mediterranean gives us one of those rare, perfect sailing days — steady breeze, open water, and total freedom. As we approach Crete, we slow the boat, throw a line off the stern, and jump into the deep blue, swimming as the boat drifts forward. At the same time, halfway across the world, Hurricane Beryl is heading straight for Grenada — where my sailboat Chak Matay has been moored. I’ve owned her for 10 years, and she’s survived more than she ever should have. This episode is about distance, freedom, and the helpless feeling of being far away when everything you love is in the path of a storm. Baja California’s Magdalena Bay is home to some of the most incredible animals in the ocean. The warm waters and upwelling bring in huge amounts of baitfish that in turn are hunted by striped marlin, California sea lions, dolphins, whales, and sometimes even sharks. While the main focus of the trip is bait balls of sardines and mackerel and the animals predating on them, we can also encounter many other migrating species, such as Humpback whales, schooling mobula rays, and possibly other surprise guests!
