Join us aboard SV Reeva, our 12 m sailing yacht, as we take on one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world — the Singapore Strait. This action-packed episode is full of adventure, adrenaline, and emotional goodbyes. After a stormy night with our anchor dragging dangerously close to Singapore waters, we embarked on a 70-mile passage from West to East Johor Bahru, navigating squalls, strong currents, and hundreds of massive cargo and container ships. With favorable currents, Reeva reached a record speed of 9 knots, weaving through 400-meter tankers and fast-moving vessels. After 11 intense hours, we made a safe landfall at Senibong Cove Marina, a quiet and sheltered inlet at Sungai Lunchoo — the perfect spot to rest and recover. This episode is also a farewell tribute to our crew mates, Apoorva and Swaroop, as they return to Switzerland. From sushi nights and karaoke fun to heartfelt goodbyes, this episode captures the essence of community, adventure, and life at sea. 📺 Watch till the end for behind-the-scenes moments, storm highlights, and the unfiltered reality of life aboard a bluewater cruising yacht.  @the_reeva_project  Join us in Season 4 Episode 4 for an episode that had it all — history, storms, laughter, and one of the most challenging crossings in the world! We set sail from Pulau Besar, near the beautiful and historic Malacca City, and headed to Pulau Pisang — at the southernmost tip of the Eurasian continent. On reaching there, we planned a chilled “weekend evening” with the crew cooking the , cooking the worst food we’ve ever made on Reeva — so bad, it had to be thrown overboard! 😂 Still, with good company came lots of laughter, making it a memorable night. From Pisang we did a small hop to a seemingly sheltered anchorage between Johor Bahru and Singapore. Plan was to sleep early for a restful night and start our Singapore Straits passage at 0430 to catch the 3 knot tide. But the night was anything but peaceful, at 3 a.m., just hours before our planned crossing, a rain squall hit with winds of 35–40 knots. Our anchor dragged, the chain snagged, and the snubber broke — chaos in the dark. After two exhausting hours, we finally got things under control. With the storm behind us, we lifted anchor at sunrise and set out towards the infamous Singapore Strait. 👉 Join us for storms, laughter, friendship, and the much-awaited crossing! S04E02 We set sail from Langkawi to Pangkor — a 130 nautical mile passage that took us 28 hours. This was our new crew, Apurva and Swaroop’s, longest sailing passage yet! ⛵💪 We arrived at Pangkor Marina — a true haven for boaters, known for how quickly and efficiently boat work gets done here. While in Pangkor, we took a day off to explore the island and indulge in local flavours. We visited the Foo Ling Taoist temple, a Hindu temple (Kali Amman Temple), the historic Dutch Fort, and Pangkor’s very famous Coral Beach. A bit about Pangkor: Pangkor Island, off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, is a small tropical gem known for its fishing villages, rich cultural mix, and laid-back charm. Historically, it was a key stopover for traders — from the Dutch to Chinese and Indian settlers — leaving behind temples, forts, and a vibrant local heritage. Today, it’s a blend of quiet beaches, delicious seafood, and a slower pace of life. After a fulfilling day of exploring, we set sail again — heading further south towards our next adventure. Sailing India to Malaysia After 3 grueling days at sea battling 35+ knot winds, 3-4m swells, and engine troubles, we finally neared Thailand’s Koh Similan Islands. Welcomed by a stunning sunrise and a breathtaking moonset, we made a much-needed stop to rest, clear an entangled rope from our prop, and regroup before our final push to Langkawi. Armed with updated weather data, we set sail again—facing the looming threat of a thunderstorm. Hugging the Phuket coast, we crossed the iconic Big Buddha statue and took temporary shelter near the southern tip of the island. While the storm hit hard that night, we leaned on the age-old wisdom of local fishermen, who proved right once again. With 24 hours to go, the sea gifted us one last curveball: calm glassy waters with no wind. From violent squalls to perfect stillness, this passage tested every ounce of our seamanship, endurance, and spirit. And no each other. Next week, a new chapter begins as we welcome fresh crew aboard SV Reeva. Don’t miss it! In the second part of our passage from Port Blair to Langkawi, things got even more intense. With just three of us onboard SV Reeva, battling 25–30 knot winds, 3–4 meter swells, and a surprise engine failure mid-passage, this leg tested every ounce of seamanship and resilience we’ve built. As weather conditions worsened, our engine refused to start—fuel wasn’t reaching the engine. With the boat rolling 30–40 degrees in high seas, we had to replace fuel filters, clean the mini de-bug system, and troubleshoot under brutal conditions. Meanwhile, Kaeya kept watch, managing sails and tracking wind speeds like a pro. With no real-time weather updates (our Iridium Go was inactive due to a SIM issue), we were relying on 72-hour-old forecasts, adjusting course toward the Similan Islands in Thailand. After three grueling days, we reached the Similan Islands, picked up a mooring, and finally got some much-needed rest. From engine repairs at sea to full moon sailing, this passage was a masterclass in liveaboard life, seamanship, and teamwork. Our journey back from Port Blair to Langkawi—a 650+ nautical mile passage—was nothing short of intense. As the last sailboat to leave the Andaman Islands before the South West monsoon set in, we were prepared for a challenging sail, but nature had its own plans. Day 1 started smoothly as we cleared out of India, but the weather quickly turned. We were hit by gusty WNW winds touching 25 knots and rolling 3-meter swells. With reefs in our mainsail and staysail, and some hearty Indian food to fuel us (yes, we had momos, roti, and paneer!), we pushed ahead. Kaeya had a magical moment spotting her first pod of dolphins alongside Reeva. Despite all our preparations, the sea threw everything it had at us—strong winds, relentless rolling, and tough sail trimming. The conditions pushed us physically and mentally. Eventually, we had to make a tough call and divert course toward Thailand, hoping for a break from the squalls. But that wasn’t the end—Reeva’s engine failed at night, adding yet another layer to what became one of our toughest sailing passages yet. This is Part 1 of our passage—a test of seamanship, endurance, and spirit. Stay tuned for Part 2 where things get even more real. On our final day with DiveIndia, we joined forces with the incredible Kachrewaale_thewastepeople team—led by Anne Philip and supported by Ruth, our DiveIndia instructor—to clean up the Meetha Nallah, one of Havelock’s few freshwater streams. It was inspiring to see people from all walks of life come together for a meaningful cause. In just a few hours, we collected over 105 kg of plastic waste! To wrap up an unforgettable week of diving, the DiveIndia team visited Reeva for one last hangout filled with laughter, stories, and promises to meet again—above and below the waterline. With the diving chapter closed, we returned to Port Blair, waiting for a good weather window before the Southwest Monsoons kicked in. As we prepped Reeva for our longest passage yet—an open-ocean crossing of over 600 nautical miles from Port Blair to Langkawi—we took time to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and say our heartfelt goodbyes. One highlight was hosting the Honorable Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands onboard Reeva. His kind words and thoughtful gesture of homemade snacks made our farewell even more memorable. As the last sailboat to leave Port Blair this season, we stocked up on all our favorite Indian food and supplies. With winds gusting over 20 knots, we set sail as a family once again—grateful, hopeful, and ready for the next chapter at sea. In this week’s episode aboard SV Reeva, we spend a few incredible days anchored between Peel Island and John Lawrence Island, seeking shelter from unfavorable weather north of Havelock. This spot is known for its natural beauty—and crocodiles! We spotted two crocs, making it clear that the Andaman crocodile scare is very real—so, no more swimming here! As we entered Haddo Anchorage, a surprise squall greeted us. But we made the most of the downpour, giving Reeva and ourselves a much-needed freshwater rinse to wash off all the salt. It was time for Arnav’s final engine routine before signing off. We topped up the oil on our Yanmar 55hp engine, which had clocked just 86 hours in 2.5 months—a pretty efficient run for Reeva! Back in Port Blair, we celebrated Holi, caught up with friends, and were deeply touched to meet several followers of The Reeva Project—what a joy to connect in person! A highlight of the week was hosting 14 young Sea Cadets from the Sea Cadet Corps who sailed over in their Lasers and Optimists. Their enthusiasm and energy were absolutely infectious, making it a truly memorable morning. We also welcome Kaeya back onboard—super excited to sail together again! In Part 2 of our Andaman Islands sailing adventure, we snorkel at Pearl Beach off South Ruthland, where we spotted turtle tracks on the sand and Gaurav had a rare underwater encounter with an adult grey nurse shark! We then sailed south to the stunning Cinque Islands, anchoring between North and South Cinque. These remote islands are known for their crystal-clear waters and thriving coral life—though our videos can’t fully capture the underwater magic, the snorkeling here was truly unforgettable. After 3 magical days, we began our 50NM upwind sail north to Radhanagar Beach. Despite a 25-degree heel, we managed to make fresh water and check off some boat chores en route. We arrived just in time for a breathtaking Radhanagar sunset. The following day, we headed into town to enjoy some delicious Indian food, but didn’t film this part—let us know in the comments if you’d like us to include more local life and shore footage in upcoming videos! As the anchorage at Radhanagar got too rolly with an incoming weather warning, we moved between Peel Island and John Lawrence Island, part of the Marine National Park. We wrapped up this leg with a special celebration for Gaurav’s birthday! 🎁 Arnav gifted him with a freshly repaired winch, 💧 Our friend Mark donated 500L of fresh water (as our Spectra watermaker is now due for a membrane replacement), 🎂 And I baked him a cake right here onboard SV Reeva! :) It was the perfect liveaboard celebration. With just a month before the Southwest Monsoon sets in over the Bay of Bengal, we’re making the most of our time in the Andaman Islands—sailing, exploring, and soaking in the beauty of this untouched paradise. This episode marks a new chapter as Arnav joins us on board for his internship as part of his BE Marine Engineering course. Before setting sail, we stocked up on provisions (with all the goodies for our Indian taste buds!) and tanked up on diesel for the journey ahead. 📍 Our Journey in This Episode: ✅ Chirya Tappu: Our first stop, famous for its stunning sunsets and rich wildlife. This lush, scenic spot is home to mangroves, tropical forests, and diverse marine life. We enjoyed crunchy pakoras onshore and even spotted sea turtles swimming nearby! 🐢🌅 ✅ Making fresh water on board! Thanks to our Spectra watermaker, we stayed self-sufficient at sea. ✅ Ruthland Island: Here, we explored the mangroves by dinghy, but with a strict no-swimming rule due to crocodile warnings! 🐊 ✅ Noticing the difference in landscapes—Andaman’s hard rock formations and dense greenery contrast sharply with Thailand & Malaysia’s limestone cliffs. ✅ Respect for the local fishermen—sailing the seas in basic wooden boats, with no GPS, minimal communication, and just one engine. These seafarers brave the ocean daily for their livelihood. ✅ Pearl Beach, South of Ruthland: Some of the best snorkeling we've done! 🐠🐡 Now, we Stay tuned for more Andaman adventures continue our journey further south to the stunning Cinque Islands! #SailingAndaman #SailingIndia #AndamanIslands #LiveaboardSailing #ChiryaTappu #MangroveExploration #SnorkelingParadise #PearlBeach #BluewaterSailing #SailingFamily #SailingLife #SailboatAdventures #TheReevaProject #OffGridSailing Sailing in the Bay of Bengal Liveaboard sailing adventure Bluewater cruising lifestyle Exploring remote islands by sailboat Sailing India’s hidden gems Off-grid sailing in the Andaman Islands Tropical sailing destinations Sailing the Indian Ocean Location-Specific Keywords: Chirya Tappu Andaman Islands Sunset spots in Andaman Ruthland Island mangroves Snorkeling at Pearl Beach, Andaman Cinque Islands sailing adventure Andaman Island marine life Exploring Andaman by sailboat Best beaches in Andaman & Nicobar Activities & Experiences Keywords: Snorkeling in Andaman Dinghy exploring mangroves Wildlife spotting in Andaman Sea turtles in Andaman Islands Making water on a sailboat Spectra watermaker liveaboard Cooking onboard a sailboat Provisioning for a long sail Offshore sailing preparations Cultural & Human Interest Keywords: Life of local fishermen in Andaman Traditional fishing boats in India Sustainable travel in remote islands Sailing internship experience Marine engineering student at sea Living off-grid on a sailboat Self-sufficient sailing lifestyle

After an incredible passage from Thailand, we finally arrived at Port Blair’s Haddo Anchorage! A hectic sail finishes with a warm welcome from the Port Control, and followed by an Ice Cream Gala onboard. The next day, we started the check-in process, which involved checks by Immigration, Coast Guard, Harbour Master, and Customs—a lengthy but smooth process, thanks to the coordination by our agents at Andaman Holidays. A special shoutout to Karan and Rohan, our agent’s representatives, who ensured everything was in order and helped us breeze through the paperwork. 📌 What’s in this episode? ✅ Arriving in Port Blair with a defunct VHF radio 📡 ✅ Checking in through Immigration, Coast Guard, Harbour Master & Customs ✅ Rohan Karan & Uma assist us at Port Blair ✅ Submitting our Iridium Go (satellite phones are not permitted in India) ✅ Receiving a 30-35 knot weather warning—time to wait it out! ⛈️ Sailing into a new country—even your own—comes with its unique challenges. We're striving to make the check-in process as seamless as it is in other cruising destinations. Through these sailing videos, we hope to inspire positive change and encourage more cruisers to explore the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. @the_reeva_project With SV Reeva all set after our haul-out at PSS Satun, we set sail for Phuket to pick up our incredible crew member, Payal! But the passage from Koh Tarutao to Phuket turned out to be a real challenge—no wind and we chose not to motor! It was slow, frustrating at times, but a great test of patience and skill—exactly the kind of experience we need as we prepare for our big ocean crossing to India! Once in Phuket, it was time to provision for our sail to Port Blair, Andaman Islands—stocking up on supplies, filling our water tanks, and of course, catching up with Payal, who came bearing amazing snacks from home! A little about Payal—she’s an absolute legend in the sailing world! She was part of INSV Tarini’s all-women circumnavigation in 2015 and sailed with Maiden in the 2023 Ocean Globe Race. She’s also sailed with us before, and we’re beyond excited to have her back for this next adventure. ⚓ Join us as we get ready for our biggest passage yet—from Phuket to Port Blair! @the_reeva_project Embarking on a journey from the serene Krabi River to the vibrant shores of Satun, we set sail under the starlit sky, arriving at the Satun River by midday, precisely timed with the tides. Despite meticulous planning and guidance from the PSS Satun team, unexpected shallow patches led us to run aground. In this moment of challenge, the unwavering kindness of the Thai community shone brightly. Three longtail boat crews came to our aid, skillfully maneuvering Reeva back to deeper waters. Their generosity and expertise left an indelible mark on our hearts. Upon reaching Phithak Shipyard and Services (PSS), established in 1992 in Ban Chebilang, Satun province , the proficient team took charge of Reeva's haul-out with remarkable efficiency. PSS has evolved from servicing fishing boats and ferries to accommodating a diverse range of vessels, including yachts . The shipyard is renowned for its comprehensive services, encompassing mechanical repairs, painting, and intricate woodwork . Navigating to PSS requires careful attention due to unmarked channels and tide-dependent access . Despite these challenges, the shipyard's commitment to customer satisfaction and the genuine warmth of its staff make it a preferred destination for many sailors .
