A practical overview of preparing and hauling a fixed-keel sailboat on a custom telescoping-riser, tandem axle trailer. In the previous Part 1 episode we looked at the trailer design elements for ordering or building a versatile keelboat trailer for various sized boats. In this follow-up video we look at the operational side of loading and hauling mid-size sailboats on the road. This includes loading the boat, unstepping the mast and securing on deck crutches, handling road logistics for short or long trips, and blocking up the trailer for storage. We also see what can happen when a travel lift breaks down and drops the boat. Our second day cruising around the Thai islands on my new sailing catamaran started at anchor on the north end of Koh Larn. By 8 a.m., the peaceful anchorage was already filling up with tour boats and jet skis, and it was getting pretty uncomfortable. But before we could escape to the quieter side of the island, I had an electrical problem to figure out. The batteries were showing a much higher load than they should have, the charger wasn’t keeping up, and I couldn’t figure out where all the extra power was going. Luckily, we had plenty of solar helping supplement the system. After chasing the electric gremlin for a while, we pulled anchor and sailed around to the east side of Koh Larn, where we found a much more peaceful anchorage near town. There was even a floating dock, which made it easy to take the dinghy ashore, walk the dogs, and find a great little waterfront spot for lunch. Back on the boat, I tried out my brand-new eFoil for the first time, Olivia took the paddleboard out, and we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon before heading back into town for an amazing dinner on the water. Según el fabricante, este ajuste debería realizarse aproximadamente cada 4 años, pero en mi caso sospecho que no se había hecho nunca en los 18 años de vida del motor. Después de limpiar el intercambiador de calor y revisar el turbo, me animo a realizar el reglaje de válvulas paso a paso. Veremos cómo medir las holguras, realizar los ajustes y comprobar el resultado final. ¿Merece la pena? A Cala de' Medici, nel corso dell'ultima edizione del Velista dell'Anno e Vela Cup, il direttore Luca Oriani ha incontrato Matteo Italo Ratti AD del Marina Cala de' Medici, Presidente del Consorzio dei Marine della Toscana e promotore di Marine d'Italia. Matteo, cos'è Marine d'Italia, qual è il suo scopo? "Marine d'Italia nasce da un progetto Toscano, il Consorzio Marina Toscana, quando nel 2019 tre porti si sono uniti per fare progetti. Ora siamo a 14 marine della Toscana e a breve potremmo dire che altri tre porti si ammetteranno al consorzio. Questo progetto è piaciuto molto anche fuori dai confini regionali e si è consolidato in Puglia, con Marine della Puglia e in Sardegna, con la rete virtuale della Sardegna. A Düsseldorf ci siamo parlati, abbiamo presentato un'idea, Marine d'Italia, che è un brand, non un'associazione, è una cosa completamente diversa, è una rete che fa cose e non deve rappresentare nessuno." Come è stato accolto? "Com grande interesse. Ora si stanno interessando anche altre regioni come la Friuli Venezia Giulia, il Veneto, addirittura la navigazione interna. Speriamo che per il 2027 di arrivare con un marchio consolidato e presentare il nostro progetto definitivo". Facciamo un esempio pratico: io sono un turista americano. Ho una barca, l'ho portata al Mediterraneo, a cosa mi può servire Marine d'Italia? "Uno degli esempi di riferimento secondo me , è la difficoltà da parte dell'utente che non capisce per quale motivo in altri mercati, tipo quello del trasporto su ruota, penso ai treni, si può comprare un biglietto con un'applicazione dove tu direttamente da casa, dal tuo smartphone, puoi prenotare un biglietto, pagarlo, modificarlo, scegliere il posto. Perché nella nautica no? Ecco, un progetto tangibile, scalabile che stiamo facendo è il progetto Ormeggiando, è un portale finanziato in questo caso dalla regione Toscana che prevede di mettere in contatto direttamente chi ha il posto barca con l'utente. Chiamiamolo un Airbnb del post di market. The Solomon Islands consist of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands. They're located on the southeastern corner of the Coral Triangle, just northeast of Australia. The Solomon Islands sit within the global epicenter of biodiversity, the Coral Triangle. Thus, you can expect to encounter an overwhelming amount of marine life. This includes beautiful little reef fish that dance like glitter suspended in the water column, larger schooling fish like snappers, jacks, and parrot fish, and awe-inspiring pelagic species like manta rays, reef sharks, and barracuda. Hopefully, we'll also find some weird benthic creatures like scorpion fish, signal gobies, and maybe even a seahorse! Given the Solomons' unique geographic location, straddling the border of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific islands, we'll see a mixture of both of these underwater worlds. We'll see reefs similar to those found around North Sulawesi, where hard and soft corals form a carpet of color and texture. Also, we'll see that many of the reefs share topographic features with Fiji- crevices illuminated by piercing beams of light. There are even a couple of wrecks for us to explore, including some from WWII.

Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Seitdem lag Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hatte begonnen. Am 17 August 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Obwohl Squib noch nicht ganz fertig ist, werfen wir die Leinen los und starten unsere erste Etappe donauabwärts. Dreieinhalb Wochen später erreichen wir das Donaudelta, der Mast wird gestellt, ein passendes Wetterfenster abgewartet, in zwei Sclägen überqueren wir das Schwarze Meer bis zum Bosporus. Ohne Einzuklarieren mit gehisster Q Flagge durchqueren wir die Türkei und erreichen 5 Tage später die Ägäis. Über Limnos und die nördlichen Sporaden segeln wir bis in den Großraum Athen, von wo aus Sabina nach Hause fliegt, weil ihr Urlaub zu Ende ist.
