This week I share some devastating news with you guys! I have managed to rupture one of the herniated discs in my spine and the disc nucleus is migrating down my spinal column compressing the spinal cord and nerves, damaging my left leg an foot function, coursing huge amounts of pain and neurological symptoms, and I now have to live in fear that I might need emergency spinal surgery at any moment AGAIN for Cauda Equina Syndrome which is when your bowel, bladder, kidneys and legs etc stop working, and this can happen at any moment, so we are stuck in Spain on our boat trying to do boat work and keep going while living on a very painful in fact excruciating knife edge! As you may know we have some standing rigging issues and our Genoa was damaged in a storm along with breaking our furling system track so we are still sailing under reduced sails, but it's ok we are dodging storms, taking refuge when necessary and exploring the quaint little places along the southern coast of Spain as we travel. We Sail happily from Mallorca to Formentera, a little island just off the coast of Ibiza, we explore ashore and snorkel in a beautiful anchorage full of wonderfull sea life, until we are taken unawares in the early hours of the morning, when a unpredicted storm hits and we find ourselves being pushed onto a rocky shore, finally leaving to seek shelter else where I come a cropper when I slip and fall smacking my face on the sprayhood and splitting my nose open! But it's nothing bit of glue can't fix and we're soon on our way again across from the Balearics to Mainland Spain, anchoring near Alicante. Sailing from Sardinia, Italy to the Balearic, Spain we are caught in a unpredicted storm which blows up to nearly 50 knots so quickly and as we try and reef our sails the furling line for our Genoa (headsail) snaps and the full 140% headsail bellows out and sets our boat onto a cause we did not plan on and had a real job to deal with, without being dismasted in the process as we have two cracked side stays!
