Ferrari Hypersail is a project like no other, and has brought together experts from automotive, aeronautics, and of course the marine world, to build a yacht which is teeming with new ideas and new engineering. It is truly pushing the boundaries of what is possible and trying to do it in as efficient a way as possible. Seeing the hull for the first time is awe-inspiring. I’d seen the yacht through the virtual reality googles at Maranello earlier in the year, but nothing quite prepares you for the size and scale of the boat. When the foils and spars are attached its going to look even more impressive, and I am looking forward to that moment early in 2027 with anticipation. Bringing the engineers together to design and build a yacht like this has been an incredible task. Each have their own ideas as to what makes a good system, so getting the best out of each of them, and then turning that into a harmonious whole required months of work, but the overall result is extraordinary as well as beautiful. The team are still expecting issues to arise. So many of the systems are untested in the real world, and the salt air and conditions they will encounter will push Ferrari Hypersail to the limit, but the attention to details is phenomenal, and any problems won’t be down to corners being cut, as this is a yacht were the finest of details have been considered. During my trip to the yard I spoke to Technical Team Leader Marco Guglielmo Ribigini, the Tech Team’s Gianluca Fenati, who came from the Formula 1 team at Maranello about some of the challenges of bringing an engineering team like this together, and also Enrico Voltalini about his pathway in sailing, and what it means to be involved in a project like Ferrari Hypersail. Everywhere you look in the shipyard there is something impressive, but the wing arm interface is an engineering marvel. Each side of the hull there is a mechanism made of milled titanium which will hold and move the wing arm up and down for each tack, and on the end of each of those wing arms is the massive 9-metre-wide hydrofoil, made of carbon and titanium with that 0.6mm titanium shield, protecting the carbon fibre structure from cavitation erosion. The loads on the interface are immense, and I astounded to find out that the wing arms are also retractable, bringing the foil closer to the hull when up and in dock. #sailing #ferrarihypersail # ferrari

On our last episode, we left Brunswick, Georgia, with no real plan for where we’d stop. This time, we kept heading north toward Charleston—and boat life had a few surprises waiting for us. A loose water maker hose emptied our tanks into the bilge, leaving us with a lot of water to make and a long overnight passage ahead. Steve was seasick, so I took the helm, made jambalaya underway, and we each took a watch through the night. By morning, we were tired, relieved, and almost to Charleston. We anchored near the USS Yorktown, but soon discovered why the anchorage was so quiet: once the boat traffic picked up, the waves came from every direction. A rough night, a badly stubbed toe, and a $65 dinghy dock didn’t stop the boys from heading over to explore this incredible World War II aircraft carrier. If there’s one of our podcasts to watch or listen to, this is the one, as I was finally able to catch up with the Snorkel Venture Big Boss himself, Ben Stokes, at his home in sunny England. I don’t say “sunny” ironically, either. As it was October, I was expecting grey skies and soggy shoes, but it was a stunning day in the English countryside. Ben and I sat down and sipped on delicious English ales and talked about the beginning of Snorkel Venture and the ethos Ben and his lovely wife Sarah–who also holds Big Boss status–have worked hard to maintain. Our convo, of course, gets interrupted by multiple callers, all of whom try to force Ben to jump back into touring again after having settled comfortably into domestic bliss. We then talk about some of the big challenges with starting a snorkel travel agency before we move on to what Ben sees for the future of Snorkel Venture. In this episode we sail the water way to Rome up into the River Tibern where our summer berth are but we also rent a car to do some sightseeing in the surroundings of Rome of the beaten turist track we visit an amazing aviation museum and Emperor Hadrians villa without the normal crowds at the turist hotspots in central Rome. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. After an unforgettable time exploring Ibiza, we continue our journey west towards the Caribbean, crossing to mainland Spain and dropping anchor in the beautiful coastal town of Calp. Cruising life is always full of surprises, and one of the highlights of this leg of the adventure was meeting up with friends who kindly drove us to the supermarket so we could stock up on much-needed provisions before continuing our voyage. From Calp we sailed south towards the Mar Menor, but our plans were suddenly put on hold when a bridge breakdown prevented us from entering the lagoon. Sometimes cruising is all about patience, and this unexpected delay was just another reminder that life at sea rarely goes exactly to plan. Once through the Mar Menor, we set course for Gibraltar. With almost no wind, this became one of those passages where the engine did most of the work as we motored across glassy Mediterranean waters, enjoying the peaceful conditions and reflecting on how far Ula has come on her voyage to the Caribbean. J’en profite également pour entretenir le guindeau d’Antécume, le graisser et examiner les pièces défectueuses. Heureusement, le voilier n’est pas en panne et notre aventure continue ! Entre paysages magnifiques, escale tranquille et mécanique marine, cette nouvelle étape nous rappelle que naviguer, c’est aussi savoir s’adapter et entretenir son bateau pour poursuivre le voyage sereinement. ► The world's largest in-water sailboat show opened its doors on Thursday, October 15, on the shores of Chesapeake Bay in the United States. With more than 150 sailboats on display and some 500 exhibitors, the Annapolis Sailboat Show confirms its status as one of America's major boating events. Our team is on site to discover the latest multihulls at this 2026 edition! ► Arriving for the second day of the show, we immediately rediscovered everything that makes Annapolis so special: packed docks, enthusiastic visitors and an exceptionally friendly atmosphere. Gray skies and somewhat unpredictable weather? After some 15 years of walking these docks, we know perfectly well that a few clouds have never discouraged American sailing enthusiasts! Some visitors are looking for their next multihull, others are preparing for a winter cruise in the Caribbean, while others have simply come to discover the latest models. All are taking advantage of the opportunity to step aboard the boats on display and meet the builders. ► Multihulls Out in Force! Our first observation: multihulls are particularly numerous and varied this year. Alongside the large cruising catamarans, smaller models are also well represented, notably with trimarans from Corsair and Dragonfly. There's something to suit a wide range of sailing plans, from sporty day sailing to long-distance cruising. A few changes to the show's layout are worth noting due to redevelopment work in Annapolis Harbor. Nevertheless, multihulls still have their dedicated in-water display area, while several catamarans are also exhibited in the charter section near the show entrance. ► Exciting New Models to Discover on Video We've got a busy schedule ahead! We're planning several guided video tours, notably aboard the Voyage 510, Heysea 60, Knysna 550 and the new Xquisite 54E Plus. Four models with very different personalities that we'll be presenting in detail over the coming days, before heading out on the water for a series of sea trials scheduled for early next week.
