The new generation of IMOCAs is here — but how fast are they really? The Ocean Race Atlantic provides the first major test as a fleet of brand new cutting-edge and modified IMOCA 60s takes on a 3,000-mile transatlantic sprint from New York to Lorient. Among the boats attracting plenty of attention are Boris Herrmann’s new Malizia and Kojiro Shiraishi’s DMG MORI — two of the latest designs pushing the IMOCA rule in their search for even more offshore performance. But they’re not alone. New boats, extensively reworked existing designs and teams preparing for everything from The Ocean Race to the Vendée Globe, fully crewed, double handed or solo, there are plenty of unanswered questions about how this new generation will stack up. So, it has been no surprise that there is a great deal of interest in this major offshore race as some of the new breed crossed the start line for the transatlantic sprint. In Part 1 of our Ocean Race Atlantic coverage, we take a closer look at the boats and teams lining up in New York as they headed out into the Atlantic.

Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. Catamarans are often praised for their stability and comfort, but what really happens when the weather turns dangerous? 🌊 In this video, we take a closer look at how catamarans handle storms, heavy winds, rough seas, and the risks sailors need to understand before heading offshore. Are catamarans actually safer in a storm, or does their stability come with its own set of dangers? Are catamarans dangerous in storms? We are separating facts from fiction to understand true catamaran safety offshore. If you spend time researching cruising sailboats, you have likely seen the same dire warnings online. People constantly claim that these vessels flip in storms or are simply not built for heavy weather. It is a persistent narrative that creates fear for anyone considering their first boat purchase. My goal is to separate these common sailing myths from the reality of how these boats actually perform. We look at why the offshore sailing debate remains so heated and what the design reality is when you get out on the open ocean. Understanding these technical trade-offs is essential for anyone planning a long-distance voyage. Subscribe for weekly sailing breakdowns, and tell me in the comments if you think the reputation of catamaran safety is fair or exaggerated. #Sailing #Catamaran #SailingSafety #StormSailing #Cruising #Sailboat #OffshoreSailing #Liveaboard #BoatSafety

Terrified of spending your whole sailing vacation feeling seasick and hanging off the back of the boat? Seasickness is the #1 fear of first-time sailors — and the good news is it's almost completely preventable. In this video, Layne from Sailing Virgins breaks down exactly how to prevent seasickness while sailing, using the same 5-part system we teach our crews all over the world. You'll learn why seasickness actually happens, how to prevent it, what to take, what to do if it hits you anyway, and the safety rules every sailor should know. Seasickness isn't a weakness and it doesn't make you a bad sailor — even pro sailors and marine scientists get it. It's just physiology, and once you understand it, you can beat it. ⛵ WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Why seasickness happens (the inner-ear vs. eyes conflict) The 5 most effective ways to prevent it — ranked by what works best Natural remedies: ginger + vitamin C (the natural antihistamine) Medication tips: what to take, and the mistake that makes it useless What to do the moment you feel sick 2 safety rules that could save your life (including the carbon monoxide warning nobody talks about) 0:00 Are you scared of getting seasick? 0:24 The 5 parts of this seasickness guide 0:46 Why seasickness actually happens 1:24 Tip 1: Get your sea legs (the most powerful fix) 1:42 Tip 2: Stay on deck & watch the horizon 2:20 Tip 3: Take the helm 2:40 Tip 4: Don't panic — just breathe 2:57 Tip 5: Where to sit on the boat 3:13 What to take: ginger & vitamin C (natural remedies) 3:51 What to take: medication (+ the timing mistake) 4:21 What to do if seasickness hits anyway 4:59 Safety rule 1: never throw up over the lifeline 5:19 Safety rule 2: carbon monoxide mimics seasickness 5:45 Final tips + where to sail your first time 7:00 Bonus: arriving at St. Helena Bay 🧰 SEASICKNESS KIT CHECKLIST ✅ Ginger (settles the stomach) ✅ Vitamin C (~2g/hr acts as a natural antihistamine) ✅ Electrolytes ✅ Motion-sickness meds — bring from your home country, and always test on land first ⚠️ Take meds BEFORE you board and BEFORE you feel sick — they won't work once nausea hits. 🌊 Don't let the fear of getting seasick keep you off the water. Jack Yeager bought a million-dollar-plus sailboat before he knew how to sail—and then learned by taking her across oceans. After selling the software company he had spent eight years building, Jack chose adventure over the sensible next step. His first boat was Phase 8, a 62-foot Beneteau Oceanis Yacht. Over the next five years, he sailed the Mediterranean, crossed the Atlantic, cruised the Caribbean, transited the Panama Canal, explored the Pacific and made it all the way to Alaska. In this candid conversation, Jack tells Cap’n Tinsley about solo sailing a 62-foot yacht, docking among multimillion-dollar boats in Monaco, getting caught in dense fog near Marseille, sailing under a full moon in the Sea of Cortez and watching lightning strike the Freedom Tower above his New York marina. He also shares the wilder side of the journey: being handcuffed by Canadian customs, losing his engine after leaving Alaska, getting caught in 55-knot winds, breaking the boom and facing the moment when he thought, “This is it. I’m gonna die.” This is a story about taking chances, learning the hard way, trusting yourself and actually leaving the dock. ⚓ GUEST Jack Yeager ⛵ BOAT Phase 8 Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 62 CHAPTERS 0:00 Preview: $1M Sailboat, Handcuffs & 55 Knots 0:32 From Detroit to Farm Life & an $800 Tractor 4:37 How Sailing Quieted a Workaholic Mind 6:26 Choosing a 62-Foot Beneteau Before He Could Sail 10:40 Why He Named Her Phase 8 14:02 Mediterranean Sailing: Every Day Was Christmas 16:01 Barcelona, Marseille Fog & the South of France 21:03 Solo Sailing, Monaco & Mediterranean Mooring 29:37 Crossing the Atlantic & Cruising the Caribbean 35:00 The U.S. East Coast & Lightning Over Freedom Tower 43:00 Transiting the Panama Canal 47:13 Venice, Whales & the Sea of Cortez 49:27 COVID, Starlink & Sailing Under a Full Moon 53:29 Insurance Trouble & Montenegro 56:03 Returning to a Locked-Down America 1:01:10 Canadian Customs, a Starter Pistol & Handcuffs 1:04:29 Alaska, No Engine & a Mayday Offshore 1:06:36 55 Knots, No Engine & a Broken Boom 1:08:25 “This Is It. 24 hours into The Ocean Race Atlantic and the six IMOCAs are still incredibly close, with just a few dozen miles separating the fleet. After leading the fleet away from the start line, Malizia 4 spent the first night pushing hard upwind through the Gulf Stream, with Boris, Cole, Justine and Julien constantly working to find every possible gain. In this second onboard video from Gauthier, we take you into the first night of racing, as the crew tackles sail changes, tactical decisions, a crucial tack and some seriously hot conditions onboard. With a new low-pressure system forming to the east, the fleet is now in a drag race to reach the stronger southerly winds. The boats are already hitting speeds of around 20 knots, and the next few days could be seriously fast. Meanwhile, Malizia 4 is still leading the fleet as the race heads east across the North Atlantic. 🎥 Follow the daily onboard series as Malizia 4 races from New York to Lorient in her first-ever race. We met Benny from Zilla jetboats on the project one day when he wondered down to offer help. Before we knew his crazy abilities we hand balled him the task of building the missing hub for our helm. He built it to perfection AND cut a bee into it for some personal flare, which Phoebe loved! We later learned that Benny had watched our videos from the Innerbloom days! He was a real Day One. Ben has been dying to get us out on the jet boat he builds all in house at Zilla, he knew how much fun we would have and he wasn’t wrong. This is such a ridiculously wild way to enjoy the water, if I had to compare it to anything it’s like riding a dirt bike on single trails. This is the sort of mate that builds an indestructible boat, throws you the keys and says ‘go for it’. We did and we couldn’t be happier to share an episode of jet boat fun and adventure with you after the last year of flat chat hard yakka! Hope you enjoy getting out to have some fun because it’s back into work action next week! Yahoooooo! We travel halfway around the island of Antigua, part of the Leeward Islands/Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, to be there in Falmouth Harbour for the start of the RORC 600 sailboat race. As it turned out, this was also ground zero for more expensive boats and yachts than we could shake a stick at. It was absolutely great boat watching, and we only captured the ones that happened by when we had a camera ready. And the funny part about it is, all joking aside, we’d take our life aboard Talisman over any of these boats. Viewers might ask why, and the answer, for us at least, is that our boat is about as big as a cruising couple can handle on their own. Yes, we could go probably go to 65’ or so, and other couples do, but the power and expense increases astronomically as you go bigger. And the idea of sharing such a cramped space with professional crew just isn’t our thing. But we do love seeing the life. The superyachts hemorrhage money wherever they go, and thousands of families get fed as a result. It’s a topic that could be argued on both sides for hours over beers and cocktails. And to viewers that see us out, ask to join us for a beer and we’ll do just that. Fun times ahead on that front. #sailing yacht talisman, #sailing, #sailing YouTube, #boating, #top sailing, #oyster yachts, #oyster sailboats, #oyster 485, #offshore, #bluewater, #blue water, #sailing vlog, #sailing vblog, #sailing videos, #cruising, #monohull, #boat projects, #offshore how to, #boat life, #defender, #antigua, #jolly harbour, #falmouth, #dead batteries, #expensive boats, #rorc 600, #sailboat anchoring

😅 Simplemente vivimos. **My Dad and Me — Before Everything Changed** Before my dad went into the Veterans Home, there were a lot of good days. Living with him wasn't always easy, but there were plenty of funny moments, ordinary moments, and memories that I wouldn't trade for anything. In this episode of *Starting Over*, I look back at what life was like with my dad and some of the experiences we shared while I was caring for him. At the time, I didn't realize how much those everyday moments would eventually mean to me. Then came the diagnosis. And suddenly, life with Dad was about to change. This is another chapter in my story of starting over — and a reminder that sometimes we don't recognize the importance of a season of our lives until we're looking back on it. #StartingOver #MyDadAndMe #LifeWithDad

The Ocean Race Atlantic has started with six IMOCA teams, each with two male, two female and one OBR (On Board Reporter) crewing. The fleet departed on Tuesday 1st September, but had to travel 150 miles offshore at a slow speed through a marine mammal zone, to have the real race starat on Wednesday 2nd September. We hear from the teams about their early tactics, take a look at the tracker to see where they are, and then get the latest from on board the yachts after 24 hours at sea. You can track the fleet at https://www.theoceanrace.com/ Full day 2 report at https://www.sail-world.com/news/299426/The-Ocean-Race-Atlantic-2026-Day-2 Thumbnail photo (c) Vincent Curutchet / The Ocean Race Atlantic #sailing #imoca #theoceanrace

I’m recording this episode from the roof of my RV in the middle of Black Rock City at Burning Man 2026. Burning Man has grown from a small gathering on a San Francisco beach into a temporary city of more than 70,000 people in the Nevada desert. But after decades of explosive growth, something is changing. Tickets that once sold out almost instantly are now easier to get. The average Burner is getting older, fewer people in their 20s are attending, and the cost of participating continues to climb. At the same time, the nonprofit organization behind Burning Man reported a loss of more than $10 million in 2024. In this episode, I look at the history of Burning Man, how it became what it is today, and some of my own experiences attending the event. Then we dig into the numbers: attendance, ticket prices, demographics, rising production costs, and Burning Man Project's finances. So is Burning Man actually dying? Has it simply become too expensive for a younger generation? Or is this just the natural evolution of an event that's been around for 40 years? And most importantly—what does Burning Man actually feel like in 2026? Recorded from Black Rock City, Nevada.

It's a bleak winter's day in early January and Lulu's new home is ready for her. In fact she's actually going back to where I bought her from, Rutland Water, so in a way it's a homecoming for her! It is with a heavy heart that I am lettig her go, but in order to move on in your sailing career, you have to sell the odd boat. She's been just simply amazing as a 2nd boat for me. Solid, dependable and a great teacher. I will never forget Lulu and hope she finds her new home as good as the one I gave her. 🌐 My new website: https://sailingwithdave.com ❤️ Comments are open, ask anything you want in the comments section! 📢 If you enjoyed this video, then please don't forget to share and let people know about the channel 🔔 Click here to "Subscribe" and never miss a video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZVuUVKKtVxulmgL3WzejjQ?sub_confirmation=1 #Sailfish 18 #Dinghysailing #MirrorDinghy #Dinghy Cruising

Fast starts, new boats, and tight tactical battles! Watch the best action from the official start of The Ocean Race Atlantic. ⛵️💨 After clearing New York's marine mammal protection zones, the fleet met 17-18 knots of wind for an intense offshore start. Team Malizia (Malizia 4) made an immediate statement by taking the fleet lead and winning the first daily Super Sprint challenge, closely pursued by DMG MORI Global One and Embrace the Challenge. With a unpredictable weather system shaping the North Atlantic, strategy is at full play as teams position themselves to hook into the fast track to France. 📡 Follow live tracker & daily coverage: https://www.theoceanrace.com 📺 Daily OnBoard Live Show: 17:00 CEST / 15:00 UTC on YouTube & @DAZN ! ► This new catamaran, which we were able to discover in Saint-Raphaël a week before its official presentation, marks a clear shift in terms of architectural choices. ► First comes the flybridge with helm station: until now, this configuration started with the Samana 59, while the smaller FP models made do with a twin helm/maneuvering station offset to starboard. Then there are the solid foredeck and forward door. No more trampolines! The FP55 thus aims to satisfy both the charter and Owner markets, with the emphasis placed more on comfort than performance. Inside, the builder offers numerous layout options - we were able to discover the Maestro version with five cabins. Finally, it is worth noting the substantial power of the optional ODSea+ propulsion system, equivalent to the 80 hp engines fitted to hull #1, which we tested. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Fountaine Pajot Length: 55'8" (16.98 m) Beam: 28'10" (8.8 m) Draft: 6'1" (1.85 m) Light Displacement: 32.1 t Sail Area: 1,894 sq ft (176 m²) Powertrain: 2 × 80 hp or 2 × 50 kW Fuel: 2 × 161 US gal (610 l) Price: € 1,395,000 ex-tax ► www.fountaine-pajot.com ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests!
