Dopo una riparazione al volo della luce di navigazione di dritta (con connettori stagni e guaina termorestringente) e un'alba mozzafiato alle 5 del mattino, facciamo rotta verso Bundaberg, scortati da megattere e da un gruppo di delfini tursiopi che decidono di fare "l'idromassaggio" direttamente sulla nostra scia. Rientrati a Bundaberg esattamente 10 mesi dopo il nostro arrivo in Australia, facciamo un controllo fondamentale per la sicurezza: scopriamo che i nostri estintori di bordo sono a zero bar da chissà quanto tempo! Un promemoria vitale per tutti i naviganti. Ma non c'è tempo da perdere: con condizioni meteo favorevoli decidiamo di saltare la sosta a Pancake Creek e tirare dritto per una cavalcata di oltre 85 miglia non-stop fino a Gladstone, navigando a più di 8 nodi. L'ingresso nel canale industriale tra navi carboniere giganti, le chiamate radio con il VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) e una sorpresa incredibile all'ormeggio in marina: qualcuno ha clonato il nome e il logo di Y2K?! Aujourd’hui sur Salinas, je pensais faire une intervention relativement simple sur le moteur… mais les choses ne vont pas du tout se passer comme prévu. En démontant une pièce du circuit de refroidissement, je réussis à casser une pièce importante du moteur. Résultat : réparation interrompue et nouvelle pièce à commander avant de pouvoir tout remonter. C’est aussi ça, la rénovation d’un vieux catamaran : parfois on commence par vouloir réparer quelque chose… et on termine avec encore plus de travail qu’au départ ! Welcome back aboard Moor R & R for this week's Adventure! Episode 49 We’re leaving Cooktown and setting our sights on beautiful Lizard Island, but the weather has other plans for us. As we poke our nose out of Cooktown, the wind quickly starts building — 30 knots and climbing — and with the seas getting bigger, we have a decision to make. Our gut tells us it’s not worth pushing on, so we turn around and head back to Cooktown to wait for better weather. But the forecast isn’t looking great, and it could be some time before the winds settle enough for us to try again. Eventually, the weather starts to ease, and we decide to make another attempt at heading north towards Lizard Island. And this time… everything starts to come together. The wind is perfect, the seas settle down, and the boat is sailing beautifully. But, of course, it wouldn’t be one of our adventures without a little drama! 😅 When one of our reefing lines gets caught around the boom, we have another problem to deal with. But it doesn’t stop us, and we continue on towards Lizard Island. What follows turns into one of the best sails we’ve had yet! Toni and I spent the summer tackling a variety of house projects while preparing for our return journey south. Despite our best efforts, it became clear that several critical projects would not be completed before our planned departure. Adding to the challenge were a number of important, difficult-to-schedule medical appointments that simply could not be postponed. This was not an easy decision, but it was the right one based on the realities in front of us. Rather than rushing our departure and carrying these unfinished responsibilities with us, we have decided to winterize “Moments in Time” and place her on the hard for the season. This winter will give us the opportunity to focus on our health, complete our home projects, and begin the process of sorting through 28 years of accumulated treasures, or as our kids like to call it, "junk." We've committed to dedicating five hours each day toward these goals. Come April, we hope to relaunch "Moments in Time" and continue our adventures with fewer obligations, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing we've taken care of the things that matter most. After just under 6,000 nautical miles and six weeks of near-constant time at sea, the anchor finally goes down in Store Bay, Tobago. Ee take one last break from sailing before returning to No Regrets and continuing our journey through the Mediterranean. This time, we're heading inland to the extraordinary region of Cappadocia, Turkey! Cappadocia is famous for its surreal landscapes, towering fairy chimneys and ancient settlements carved into the rock. We explore the Göreme and Zelve Open-Air Museums, visit Uçhisar Castle, admire Love Valley, venture deep underground into the remarkable city of Derinkuyu, and discover the hidden churches of Ihlara Valley and the impressive Selime Cathedral. But the highlight of our trip has to be getting up before sunrise for a hot-air balloon ride. Watching the balloons inflate in the darkness before floating above Cappadocia's incredible landscape as the sun rises is an experience we'll never forget. And our landing brings us surprisingly close to the crowds gathered below! Then it's time to return to the coast and get back to sailing. As we leave Oasis Marina, we watch helicopters tackling a nearby wildfire before completing our exit formalities at Çeşme and setting sail for Greece. After crossing to Chios, we have a few challenges trying to clear in without an agent, before enjoying a fantastic spinnaker sail south to Samos. With the spectacular Mount Kerkis towering above our anchorage, we finish the day with drone views of the beautiful bay and dinner at a little restaurant on the beach. I was one of the very first pilots hired by Flydubai back in 2009, and I was there for the airline's very first passenger flight. But after a little over a year flying the Boeing 737 for them, I decided to leave. Following the recent shocking incident involving a Flydubai first officer, I'm sharing my firsthand experience working for the airline, the problems I saw with management and scheduling, and my concerns about pilot hiring standards and background checks. I'll also discuss the major differences between American and international pilot training, why I prefer certain airlines when I travel, and why I believe AI and automation could make the traditional airline pilot career obsolete much sooner than people think. The final division to leave the harbour were the maxis who luckily had more wind than the previous divisions. Black Jack unsurprisingly led the fleet but didn’t have it all her own way in a three way battle with Balthasar and Django 70.

After more than a year sitting at the dock and weeks of nonstop repairs, it's finally time to get my 1989 CT56 sailboat, Nauti Dogs, back out on the water! We leave Solomons, Maryland, and enjoy an incredible 53-nautical-mile sail down the Chesapeake Bay to the charming town of Onancock, Virginia. Along the way, we pass right by the American Mariner, a historic Navy target ship sitting in the Chesapeake Bay. Everything is going great until we enter the channel approaching Onancock… and I run aground! Fortunately, we aren't stuck hard and manage to get moving again before making it safely to the town dock. After all the work it took to get this old boat sailing again, it feels incredible to finally be back out on the water! Founded in 2022, Chronic Sailing is an American Sailing affiliate offering day charters, weeklong adventures, and ASA certifications from 101 through 106. Specializing in ASA 114 catamaran cruising, they aim to be a one-stop shop for sailing education, charters, and yacht management. ⛵ What’s one thing people might not expect about your school? Sailing can start with live music! Their Tuesday concert series, “Toes Day,” introduces newcomers to life on the water in a fun, relaxed setting.
