Lobster Boat milestone report -- mold complete! This is a critical juncture when we find out if we did everything right with prepping the plug, waxing it thoroughly and laying down the critical inner layer of the mold (which is the finished surface that ultimately shapes the hull). We're thrilled to report that the mold released cleanly from the plug, and has the glossy, flawless finish we needed. So we can proceed onward to building the hull for the prototype! We're exactly on schedule, pulled the mold on the day before Thanksgiving, and the first hull is in layup right now. Big thanks to the fiberglass shop crew for gettin er done! 💪 #lobsterboat #boatbuilding #gigharbor #ghboats #smallboats #craftsmanship

And through that experience we’ve realized we are happiest when we can fully engage with nature—biking, kayaking, hiking, fishing, freediving, and more. Now, as we transition to life ashore, we’re dreaming of building a homestead where we can live in nature through hard work and self-reliance, fundamentally the same things we loved about the sailing lifestyle. However, large coastal properties are far beyond our budget. That’s why we’ve set our sights inland, to the mountains of Southern Appalachia, where land is more affordable and where we can find that active engagement with nature that we love. Now last week, we left you with a cliffhanger as Hurricane Milton passed directly over our parents’ home in Florida. As it turned out, they were extremely lucky and their homes survived the ordeal unscathed. So this week, we’re free to explore the next town on our list Bryson City, NC. Walkthrough the Bunker and Ellis 42, Aleria, with Scott Woodruff CPYB In 1947, Ralph Ellis embarked on the legendary boat-building venture with Raymond Bunker in Southwest Harbor, Maine. The subsequent partnership of Bunker and Ellis established a remarkable legacy of building classic lobster yachts." ~ Ellis Yachts Aleria is a true testament to the tradition and attention to detail that Maine boatbuilders are renowned for. Built by the iconic builders at Bunker and Ellis in 1958 and refit by Johanson Boat Works in Rockland, Maine, in 2010/2011, stepping onboard Aleria is like stepping back into an era past when detailed craftsmanship, quality materials, and sensible design were at the center of the ethos.

It took a couple hours of waiting around under the hot sun, but when Mother Nature decided to cooperate, she did so in full force and anyone who was lucky enough to be in the area was able to see the majesty of the Phuket King's Cup under full sail. Famed lensman Guy Nowell was able to capture the beauty of the scene and his fabulous images are on the regatta's website. There are so many highly skilled sailors competing in this regatta, including Olympic participants and champions as well as many veterans of the famed Rolex Sydney-Hobart race. There are also a couple World Match Racing stars, including Adam Minoprio sailing on Team Hollywood (he also sailed in the America's Cup) as well as Mati Sepp, helming Gern Kard.

When Luke Marsh joined GJW Direct to head up their Marketing Department he had no experience in sailing. In fact he had a phobia of water. Step by step he overcame his fear, and first gained his RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification, then learned to paddleboard, and in the summer of 2024 took a sailing course, gaining his RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 Qualifications. He's not stopping there either! #sailing #marineindustry #marineinsurance
