As we press on towards Lizard Island, we leave the Hope Islands and travel north to overnight at Forrester Reef, where we enjoy some fishing and snorkelling. We then take advantage of the unusually calm conditions to visit the very outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef at Patches No.1, a reef near the bottom of No.10 Ribbon Reef, where the diving is unlike anything we've seen before. After overnighting at the Low Isles, we continue north towards our ultimate destination for this cruising season - Lizard Island. We stop at the spectacular Mackay Reef, with its beautiful sand cay and awesome coral reefs. We leave Bowen early for a 100nm passage north to beautiful Magnetic Island. While the breeze didn't really co-operate, we enjoyed a glorious day on the ocean and spotted (up close!) our first whales for the season.
