A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Things We're Most Curious About... GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community.
Day 39, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: It rained all day, so I did a useless tack and sewed my sails. Casper didn’t help at all! It’s September 1st; 2025. We’re mid Atlantic, finally south of the ITCZ, heading towards the equator. 2,107 miles from the start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again. Let’s show the world what’s possible. 👉 https://bit.ly/BravestDogInTheWorld 🎼 🎵 MUSIC: 🎵 🎼 INTRO: Song: Chime & Nytrix - RunawayMusic provided by NoCopyrightSoundsFree Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/CN_Runaway OUTRO: Song: Coopex, KHEMIS - If Looks Can Kill [NCS Release] Music provided by NoCopyrightSounds Free Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/IfLooksCanKill Watch: http://NCS.lnk.to/IfLooksCanKillAT/youtube

In this episode we leave Cagliari on Sardinia and start a New Sailing Season cruising in Italy but before we can let go of the lines we need to do a trip back to Gotland and finish off our solarpanelproject. We left Cagliari a sunny day and got a great sail to Porto Corallo on the east coast of Sardinia and we try to give you the same sunny laidback feeling with long 4k sailing clip where you hear the water sizzling around the hull and the subtle squeaking off the lines. We say Merry Christmas and happy new sailing year click subscribe to follow us along the way. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Will Oxley is a highly experienced and renowned ocean racing navigator and meteorologist. He will be the navigator, along with Chris Lord, on the 100 footer SHK Scallywag for the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. One of the most memorable of the many interviews we have held with Will over the years, was at the end of the 2019 Hobart Race when he was navigator aboard Matt Allen’s TP52 Ichi Ban. At the time, devastating bushfires were raging across Australia and the fire-driven pyrocumulus clouds were directly changing the race weather conditions along the NSW and Victorian coasts. We asked Will at the time how the pyrocumulus impacted the weather and, as always when talking to Will, he first went back to the general climate context to describe how that was changing the weather – and ergo changing the weather patterns of the Sydney Hobart race. Some six years later we were keen to understand how those patterns have evolved and changed in the time since. In this second part of our discussion with Will (who is also an experienced marine ecologist), he offers some extraordinary evidence of how the ongoing southward migration of warmer water is strengthening the Australian East Coast Current and dramatically changing the marine ecology of Tasmania’s coastal waters.
Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2025 | Part I - Will Oxley Talks Weather and AI Will Oxley is a highly experienced and renowned ocean racing navigator and meteorologist. He will be the navigator, along with Chris Lord, on the 100 footer SHK Scallywag for the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. In the first part of our discussion with Will, he offers some insights into the increasing roll of AI in more accurate forecasting and in gaining greater reliability in forecasting over longer periods of time.
From Samaná, DR to Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos. 180 nm of pure sailing bliss - Ella loved this one!
This time, the sea was kind to us! Ella and I sailed 180nm from Samaná, Dominican Republic to Grand Turk Island, Turks & Caicos, and this passage could not have been more different from the previous one: No waves. No squalls. Just steady 14–16 knots on the beam, full mainsail and Code 0, and Mirage gliding effortlessly across the ocean. The night sail was pure magic - full moon, calm seas, and that deep, quiet rhythm of perfect sailing. One of those moments that remind you why you go to sea in the first place. Daytime was just as beautiful: Sunbathing on deck Relaxed breakfast underway First glimpse of the iconic light-blue, crystal-clear waters of Turks & Caicos Most importantly - Ella truly enjoyed this sail. Smiles, calm seas, and that rare feeling when everything simply works. 🎶 Soundtrack: "Dreaming" by Camouflage sets the mood for the passage 🕺 And yes… stay until the end for a little afterparty with classic Italo Disco - because good sailing deserves good music. If you love night sailing, smooth passages, and tropical arrivals, this one is for you. Fair winds, Vlad & Ella ⛵ Mirage

Five years ago, we spent every dollar we had on a sailboat that wasn’t ready to go cruising — and somehow, that turned into the adventure of a lifetime. After a tense fuel scare and a 26-hour sail from Bimini to the Exumas, we’re finally settling into island life… but not without a few surprises. In this episode of Sailing Zola, we: ⛵ Navigate rough conditions in the Bahamas 🌊 Explore reefs, surf the dinghy, and find a private beach ❄️ Install and test the smartest DC-powered marine air conditioner on the market ☀️ Run air conditioning overnight entirely off solar and batteries 🦞 Dive for lobster and lionfish and cook an unreal dinner onboard This has been our goal since we bought this boat: staying cool at anchor without running a generator — and we finally made it happen. We’re Banner & Nellie, sailing full-time and sharing the highs, lows, and lessons of life on the water. The humorous metric that you should add a foot of boat length for every year that you get older seems to have escaped Victorian-turned-Tasmanian Chris Dare. Chris once owned the TP52 Audi Centre Sydney, but these days he can be seen at the helm of the GP42 Ambition. Chris bought the boat in March this year but has wasted no time at all in getting up to speed, training with his crew in testing Tasmanian conditions, as preparation for their race south. He had sworn off doing another Hobart after his 10th edition in 2009, but says that his son Lockie twisted his arm to give it another go. The team will be joined by talented up and coming navigator Clare Costanzo.
A week out from the Sydney Hobart start (when the forecast was for light airs) we spoke to the owner/kipper of the Marten 72 Aragon, Andries Verder. Andries enjoys combining family, Corinthian sailors and top professional sailors when he goes ocean racing. The list of the ‘600 milers’ (long ocean races of 600 or more nautical miles) that he and his crew have already competed in is remarkable; not the least of which was in winning the Transatlantic Race in 2016. So, unsurprisingly, the Sydney Hobart was on the list and for this race his professional crew include navigator Adrienne Cahalan and Volvo Ocean Racer Carolijn Brouwer.

The Annapolis Sailing School in the Eastport Yacht Club Light Parade. Happy Holidays to all the sailors. This could be you in 2026!
Our sail from Bermuda to St. Martin was a LONG 6 days. Avoiding squalls, we chose the departure day knowing we would have some doldrums, but this was worst then we thought it would be. It made the trip take longer than we anticipated, burned more fuel running the iron jenny. And our new sail batten box broke making sailing even more handicapped. Crew morale picked up a little during a mid-ocean swim, but our arrival in St. Martin was the most welcome respite. In this episode, I share my personal thoughts on the tragic aviation accident involving Greg Biffle and his family. I had the opportunity to meet Greg and his wife Kristina about a year and a half ago at Spanish Cay Yacht Club, and they were incredibly kind, welcoming people. This is not an episode about speculation or assigning blame, but rather about acknowledging the human loss, explaining what is currently known, and offering perspective on how unforgiving aviation emergencies can be—especially shortly after takeoff and in marginal weather conditions. Investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are ongoing, and it will be many months before definitive answers are available. My thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.

Jim Murray and Steve Orlebeke talk about how they are preparing for the Sydney to Hobart Race and what makes their all-star crew invaluable as they race the Pac 52. Jim Murray and Harken’s own Steve Orlebeke remind us it’s the people who make this team what it is—a friends-and-family start turned professional racing campaign, powered by trust, time on the water, and a crew that’s built, not bought. 🎥: @SailorGirlHQ #Harken #AtTheFront -- Visit Harken 👉 https://bit.ly/Harken_
