After four years of owning the Dahon Mariner D8, we’re sharing an honest, comprehensive review—do we still love it? Would we buy it again? In this video, we explain why we chose this bike, how we use it on our boat, and dive into its key features like tires, materials, adjustability, ride quality, gears, foldability, durability, and more. Whether you're considering a bike for your boat or just curious about the Dahon Mariner D8, this video offers valuable insights—and also highlights the benefits of boat ownership. #dahon #dahonmariner #dahonbike #cycling #boatlife NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? Reading the Telltales on Your Sails: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/reading-the-telltales-on-your-sails You’re trimming your mainsail WRONG. Today we break down the most common mainsail trim mistakes sailors make — and then I’ll show you the exact step-by-step sail trim procedure that will make your boat faster, safer, and way more comfortable. Whether you’re racing, cruising, learning to sail, or living aboard, proper mainsail trim is one of the most important skills you can develop. This video covers mainsail twist, outhaul tension, traveler positioning, backstay and mast bend, luff tension, draft control, leech tension, and how to use the vang correctly. We also talk about heel angle, weather helm, and why your sailboat feels out of balance when the trim is wrong. If your boat heels too much… If your helm feels heavy… If you can’t point high… If your speed is disappointing… This video will FIX all of it. ⚓ MAINSAIL TRIM REFERENCE PACK (All Sources Mentioned) These are the guides, PDFs, and videos I recommend if you want to go deeper: • Quantum Sails – Mainsail Trim Guide (PDF) https://www.quantumsails.com/getattachment/Resources-and-Expertise/Articles/Downloadable-Sail-Trim-Guides/QuantumSails_TrimGuide_Mainsail.pdf.aspx • Speed & Smarts – “Mainsail Trim” https://www.speedandsmarts.com/toolbox/articles2/the-fast-course/mainsail-trim • Sail Magazine – “Mainsail Trim 101” https://www.sailmagazine.com/diy/mainsail-trim-101/ • NauticEd – “How to Trim the Mainsail — Traveler or Mainsheet?” https://sailing-blog.nauticed.org/how-to-trim-the-mainsail-traveler-or-mainsheet/ • Yachting News – “Mainsail Trimming: 4 Steps to Keep It in Shape” https://www.yachtingnews.com/mainsail-trimming/ • All At Sea Caribbean – “Guide to Sail Control: Mainsail Trim” https://www.allatsea.net/guide-to-sail-control-part-ii-mainsail-trim/ • North Sails / RSYS – Mainsail Trim Webinar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-W9fA7Vgro • Sail Trim Masterclass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWRI8MJ67WY • “3 Ways To Sail Faster — Mainsail Trim Techniques” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClMisGS9WJg Practical Sailor is your trusted resource for reviews of sailboats and sailing gear. https://www.practical-sailor.com Chat with us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PracticalSailor/

After spending three beautiful weeks exploring the Tioman Islands, Malaysia, we finally set sail towards Terempa, Anambas Islands, Indonesia. This episode captures our 140 nautical mile passage across the South China Sea, with a planned stop at Jemaja Island, one of the larger islands in the Anambas archipelago. As we sailed, Vee took the night watch under a stunning full moon — one of those magical sailing moments that the camera simply can’t do justice to. The first 24 hours were calm and comfortable, and it felt special sailing just the two of us together after a long time. By mid-day, we entered Indonesian waters, greeted by unreal shades of blue — sky and sea blending into one. We anchored at Jemaja, an island that also has an airport, and soon realized how quickly weather can change in the South China Sea. With rough weather forecasted, we were grateful to have taken shelter. We also discovered that our bilge pump setup hadn’t worked as planned (from the previous episode), so we stayed aboard to fix things and ended the day with a refreshing sea swim. After 2–3 days, once the weather improved, we sailed onward to Terempa, Anambas, where things got interesting again — rough weather, and then we realized a pin from our mainsail had come loose mid-sail. Gaurav also shares a valuable tip on how to prepare for bad weather at sea, stressing the importance of timely action and closely monitoring weather apps. After an eventful sail, we finally arrived at Terempa, where officials from Customs, Immigration, Health, and Port Authority came onboard to officially check us into Indonesia. The Anambas Islands are a remote and pristine archipelago in Indonesia, known for crystal-clear waters, untouched reefs, and their off-the-beaten-path beauty — a true sailor’s paradise. We’re excited to begin exploring Anambas, Indonesia in the coming episodes! 👉 Follow our journey: 📸 Instagram: @the_reeva_project 📘 Facebook: The Reeva Project ---------------------------------------------------------------------- मलेशिया के तिओमन आइलैंड्स में लगभग तीन हफ़्ते बिताने के बाद, हमने अब अपना सफ़र शुरू किया इंडोनेशिया के अनाम्बास आइलैंड्स की ओर। ⛵🌊 Sailing to Indonesia Anambas Islands Indonesia Tioman to Anambas sail South China Sea sailing Liveaboard sailing couple Full moon sailing Boat life reality Sailing vlog India The Reeva Project Sailing Malaysia to Indonesia #TheReevaProject #SailingIndonesia #AnambasIslands #SouthChinaSea #BoatLife #LiveaboardLife #SailingCouple #FullMoonSailing #OceanAdventure #SailboatLife #CruisingLife #IndianSailors #LifeAtSea #SVReeva

We kick off part one of the electrical refit of this boat. We are designing our ultimate custom lithium setup, allowing us to live off-grid without a generator for unlimited periods. Getting rid of 175kg of AGM batteries and installing a 20kWh custom lithium setup. Combining 24v and 12v all powered by solar energy. We bought a cheap and neglected 49ft Performance catamaran for just $52.500. It is an Ocean Cat 49 built in 2000, and we are in the process of refitting it and getting it sailing again so we can continue our voyage around the world. Hop along for the ride while we try and give this incredible boat a second chance at life and finally crossing some oceans. Fixing stuff along the way and creating an incredible floating home. We wake up surrounded by squalls, adjust the jib preventer to get back on a westward heading, and discover an issue with our headsail coming out of the lower track — a problem that would be difficult to fix at sea. Fatigue has been building for days, sleep has been rough, and the scopolamine patches we were using for seasickness left us feeling foggy, disoriented, and honestly not ourselves. In this episode we walk through our full ditch kit and abandon-ship plan — from our six-person life raft (big enough for us and the dogs), to backup communications, power, water, and visibility strategies if the worst were to happen. We also talk about redundancy, emergency power, and why having electricity and communication matters more than ever offshore. After more than two weeks of downwind, rolly conditions, we make the call to start motor-sailing to increase speed and comfort — hoping to arrive before Christmas so Ayanna can make it home to her family. With the engine running, conditions finally ease, spirits lift, laundry dries, fajitas get cooked, and for the first time in days, it feels like we can breathe again. This wasn’t an unsafe crossing — but it was an uncomfortable one. And after 16 days, that wears you down. Thanks for sticking with us through the hard days. The good ones are coming. In this video, I show how to drive older analogue marine gauges using an ESP32, pulling live data from a SignalK server using the SignalK Listener. This is a great way to reuse classic or legacy gauges while upgrading your boat’s electronics to a modern, open-source system. #SignalK #ESP32 #MarineElectronics We cover: ✅ Why an ESP32 is ideal for marine electronics projects ✅ How to use SignalK Listener to read live data ✅ Mapping SignalK data to analogue gauge outputs ✅ Driving older gauges with modern digital inputs ✅ Practical tips for reliability on a sailboat ✅ Trigger outputs from your SignalK Data If you’re upgrading your boat electronics, experimenting with SignalK, or looking for DIY ways to integrate old instruments with new systems, this project is a powerful and affordable solution. This setup is perfect for sailors who want modern data with classic displays, without replacing everything with expensive proprietary instruments. ⚓ Ideal for: • SignalK users • ESP32 & Arduino-style developers • DIY marine electronics projects • Sailboat refits and upgrades Timestamp 00:00 Intro #SailboatElectronics #BoatTech #DIYElectronics #AnalogGauges #MarineInstruments #OpenSourceMarine #SailboatDIY #BoatLife #EmbeddedSystems #ESP32Project Our Website: https://boatingwiththebaileys.com Social Media & Links: Facebook: https://facebook.com/BoatingBaileys Instagram: https://instagram.com/boatingwiththebaileys/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BoatingwiththeBaileys GitHub: https://github.com/Boatingwiththebaileys If you wish to support us: https://ko-fi.com/boatingwiththebaileys

We leave the marina and set sail for Moreton Island for a weekend escape — taking advantage of a narrow weather window before severe storms arrive. With major weather systems forecast to move in soon, this trip is all about timing, planning, and making the most of calm conditions while they last. This is the reality of liveaboard sailing, where every sail is shaped by the forecast. We’re full-time liveaboard sailors currently living in the marina while we prepare our sailboat for a future sailing around the world. While we’re not offshore yet, weekend sailing trips like this are essential for building experience, confidence, and seamanship before long-distance cruising. When storms are predicted, knowing when to go — and when to stay — is a critical sailing skill. In this episode, we sail across Moreton Bay to Moreton Island, using the brief calm period ahead of the incoming storms. From checking weather forecasts and choosing the right departure time to navigating changing winds and sea conditions, this video shows what real boat life looks like for cruising sailors in preparation mode. This is everyday life for sailboat owners and liveaboards, balancing adventure with safety while living aboard full-time. Moreton Island provides the perfect destination for weekend sailing, offering beautiful anchorages, island scenery, and valuable experience for sailors learning to manage weather windows and coastal passages This episode is ideal for anyone interested in sailing, sailboats, and liveaboard life, including beginner sailors, people new to boat ownership, and those dreaming of travelling the world by sailboat. You’ll see how short coastal trips play a vital role in preparing for long-term cruising and bluewater sailing, especially when weather systems and storms are part of the equation. Using calm conditions before the storms hit allows us to test systems, practice anchoring, and continue preparing our boat for future ocean passages. Trips like this are stepping stones toward becoming confident cruisers and eventually leaving Australia to sail around the world. If you enjoy liveaboard sailing adventures, honest boat life, real weather decisions, and the journey toward long-term cruising, this episode is for you. Subscribe and follow along as we chase weather windows, sail to stunning islands, and work toward our dream of sailing around the world, one weekend sail at a time. It's been two and a half years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been a year and a half since our first sail ever. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. We are now preparing to move onboard and to sail around the world. Join us to see the challenges as we continue to learn to sail, prepare our boat and make changes so our boat feels like a home. We are moving onboard in just a few weeks so our sailing dream is getting closer and closer. This video unveils the first renders of the Dazcat 1500, featuring exterior fly-arounds and interior fly-throughs of one possible Cruiser model, shown here in an accessible configuration. Built around a single, newly developed hull design, the D1500 platform supports three distinct models: Cruiser, Sport and Racer. Each tailored to a different sailing style while sharing the same powerful foundations. The hull shapes, wide decks and generous interior volumes allow for wheelchair accessibility, making inclusivity a core part of the design rather than an afterthought. What you see here is just one interpretation of what the D1500 can become: a comfortable, capable cruiser designed for extended sailing and ease of life on board. Other configurations explore performance-focused sport sailing and stripped-back racing, all evolving from the same versatile hulls. This is the beginning of the D1500 story — adaptable by design, rooted in Dazcat DNA, and shaped around how people want to sail.

11. Grey Wolf FPB78-2 Adventures from the Pacific to Antarctica – Building the Ultimate Expeditio...
What does it take to build a yacht capable of crossing the Pacific, riding out 100 knots at anchor, refuelling from 45-gallon drums on remote islands, and cruising among drifting ice and orca in Antarctica? In this episode of the Berthon Podcast, Sue Grant sits aboard FPB 78-2 Grey Wolf II with owner Peter Watson to talk through one of the most extraordinary private cruising programs of the last decade. Peter’s FPB story began with Little Grey Wolf, an FPB 64 he bought in New Zealand. Instead of shipping her home, he made the bold decision to drive her across the Pacific. “I looked at shipping the boat back,” he says, “and then thought, no, let’s drive it back.” The resulting three-month journey carried a crew of five, including a retired MOD naval architect and two apprentices, through Tahiti, the equatorial countercurrents, Panama, the Azores and on to the Channel Islands. It was on this voyage that Peter learned the practical truths that would shape his next FPB: carry the spares you may need, because help is thousands of miles away, and make sure everything on board is accessible. While the 64 was crossing oceans, Grey Wolf II was under construction in New Zealand. The design was a collaborative process between Peter, fellow FPB owner Pete Rossin, and Steve Dashew himself. “It was very much a group effort,” Peter explains. “Steve designed the hull, but we all worked together to refine how she should be equipped and laid out.” He even spent nine months in the yard during the build, ensuring the systems, access and fit-out met the standard needed for high-latitude cruising. Safety was at the core of the project. Peter insisted the yacht be built to MCA Category Zero. “I wanted the boat to be as safe as it possibly could be. The MCA standard is one of the best internationally,” he says. Grey Wolf II is the only FPB 78 coded to that level. Once completed, she took the long route home. New Zealand to Tahiti, then the Gambier Islands, where fuel was hand-pumped aboard from 45-gallon drums. Past Pitcairn and Christmas Island, then into Chile. From there she and FPB 78-3 Iron Lady II travelled south together and spent three unforgettable weeks in Antarctica. “The wildlife was extraordinary,” Peter says. “Orca, penguins, seals. By the end I was almost penguined out.” The conditions, of course, were real. Charts were unreliable, ice drifted unpredictably and anchoring required constant vigilance. “You might put the anchor down and be fine, then the wind shifts and suddenly the ice is coming at you. You have to decide whether you can push it off or lift the anchor and move.” Between Little Grey Wolf and Grey Wolf II, Peter estimates he has logged close to 100,000 FPB miles. The capability, he says, is what keeps drawing him back. “You do not go looking for bad weather,” he explains, “but you know the boat can handle it. We had 100 knots on the nose in Chile and everything held without a problem.” If you are interested in real world ocean crossing capability, practical design lessons, or what it means to run a family expedition yacht to some of the most remote places on earth, this conversation is not to be missed. Grey Wolf II is a remarkable platform, and Peter’s miles prove the point.
