You might remember Manny from one of the earlier San Blas charter episodes on Sail Joana. After booking a charter on Maria's sailboat Joana in June 2017, he had asked me if he could come and visit me on Karl one day. And here he is! Manny jumped on board in Golfito (Costa Rica) in the Golfo Dulce and since he only had a couple of days of vacation, we decided to make little baby jumps around the Golfo Dulce and explore the area a little bit. It was his first time on a small sailing vessel and he took it all in. It was inspiring to see how much he enjoyed it all and how he dove into the freedom and tranquility of this salty lifestyle. Enjoy & Ahoy, Nike and Karl

After a solid provisioning mission and helping our new friends pull their boat out of the water, we head back to our favorite dive spot – Botswain Bird Rock to enjoy or last couple of days. Transiting the Panama Canal without an agent is not hard and you save a lot of money. Join us in Colón as we prepare for the transit and show you the preparations before leaving the Atlantic Ocean. Our friends on SY Carpe Mare have written a guide with all the information about the canal transit without an agent (find the document in the bottom of the post): http://www.carpe-mare.se/2018/01/12/panama-canal/ This is the guide book we use: http://amzn.to/2HvilA9 We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. I HIT A REEF. Sailing in the San Blas ( Guna Yala) Islands. In this episode, I hit a reef, invent an old school beer cooler, try to find internet in paradise, brave more foul weather and avoid getting wrecked. #sailing #singlehandedsailing #livethedream Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. The 2018 season kicked off in Lanzarote for event one, the Calero Marinas Cup. After a short winter break, it didn't take long for ultra-competitive RC44 teams to shake off the cobwebs and beck back into serious racing. After four days of perfect winter racing conditions, it was Monaco based team Charisma who took the event win, their first in four years thanks to the cool handling of their owner-helm Nico Poons and America's Cup sailing legend Ray Davies calling tactics. The RC44 Calero Marinas Cup, 28 February until 4 March, is the first event of the 2018 Championship Tour which pits the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high-performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts. In this departure from sailing down the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal, we take time for a minor upgrade. This is a project video, showing install and wiring for the Fusion Audio wired remote control product. A bit about how these things go into a boat.

So, the first project(s) on the Pre Atlantic crossing list was removing the toe rail and fixing all 781holes in our boat If you enjoyed this episode, please give it thumbs up, it helps us out a bunch :) WANT MORE? We go on a couple adventures to find a few items for Saoirse, our 1971 Pearson 35, or Home as we like to call her. We go with some friends to look for some LED lights at IKEA. Then we take a relaxing stroll, BIRDS!!! on the beach. There is a ton of garbage so we decided to pick it up instead of just passing it by. We find a shrine for recycling garbage that has washed up/left behind on the beach. Brandy leaves our mark. Last we take a long trek to a second hand sailing parts store down in Ft. Lauderdale. Visit: https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing ** We start out with great sailing conditions as we leave Tahiti Beach to make our way once again to Marsh Harbour. We had favorable winds at our back for most of the run, but once we close in on Marsh Harbour they were right on our nose, and I cause a little bit of an accident on the way. After waiting out the northern, which turned out to be no big deal at all, Matt and I set out for the perfect meal to celebrate our 18 year dating anniversary. In the mood for something local and fried, we walk to the opposite end of the settlement to find a place called Back 2 Da Island to enjoy our meal and spectacular views of the island. Just before we leave Marsh Harbour to keep making our way north, our friend Jamel from Indiantown Marina shows up with a group of friends that were visiting him from Alaska, where he works in the summer. We have a great night of gin and tonics on his boat, Gravina, before settling on a pleasure cruise the next day. Having their boat raft right next to ours to pick us up, we sail up the Sea of Abaco to the northern tip of Great Guana Cay before turning around and heading back. A wonderful day on the water with friends, just enjoying the sport of sailing. Cheers from the Bahamas! Thank you SO MUCH to our Patrons. A storm was coming as we sailed into Auckland Harbor. We thought we'd hide from it in a local marina but conditions on the dock proved worse than conditions in the bay! After three rainy days in Auckland we'd had enough wet weather and sailed to Waiheke. Waiheke is a beautiful island a short sail from Auckland harbor with a couple little towns, an old WWII battery and plenty of sheep for comedic relief. Oh.. and I almost forgot Waiheke has the absolute BEST gelato we've had in all of NZ. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we decided to buy "Family Circus", planned to sail her to New Zealand and started an adventure that changed our lives. SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe-5...
